Organ Moods John Winters at the Mighty Wurlitzer side 2
is the most beautiful organ rendition of Londonerry Aire. Listen first, then listen to side 1 Clair De Lune
You will never believe...no, maybe this is WHY you will understand how this man became so profoundly skilled and creative on the organ, for it was his organ career in the most uncanny of occupations that led to his mastery. I listened unaware for dozens of times not knowing a thing about Mr. Winters, then suddenly it was discovered.
The arrangement is by Darwin Wolford of Rexburg, Idaho. He is a retired professor of music at BYU Idaho. He was a student of LeRoy Robertson and Alexander Schreiner at the University of Utah where he earned his doctorate in music.
The Londonderry Air was one of my mother's favorites. Listening to Miss Hall's performance brings back memories for me, as well as a few wistful tears to the eye. This really is a beautiful arrangement, beautifully performed. A Letter Perfect performance by Miss Hall!
This is beautiful! Thanks for sharing. I find this video very inspiring...something about being in this huge building, all alone with a massive musical instrument, playing to your heart's content. Makes me want to go and play an organ like this!
Alena, I know don't know me, but I would like to compliment you on your playing of this folk-tune, the way in which you played it, was just phenomenal! It actually made me sit back and shut my eyes, which quite often this piece isn't given the correct phrasing, which you clearly have taken the precious time to make sure it's there...! A very well done! Thank you! Jamie xx
Beautiful legato playing. Your technique is excellent and the registration was perfect. Can you tell me, is this the arrangement of the Londonderry Air that is in the the old book "At the Console?" It is a good arrangement. Thanks for you wonderful playing.
This morning I posted the song Oh Danny Boy, and found your organplay... haha, that makes me a little "homesick" because I used to play churchorgan when I was young... I think you play it well.
OrganAndPiano...Clearly you know not of what you speak. Why would you need to use the Crescendo Pedal on the opening phrase? I'm sure the arrangement doesn't call for it. She also never used the Vox Humana during this work but did use the Voix Celeste. Maybe you should be informed before you go critiquing other peoples videos. You should post a video of your playing this work the "correct" way.
Very nice. Good expression overall. I enjoy hearing the seperate ranks being singled out, like the block flute or gemshorn in the beginning and throughout the piece. I am impressed. Is there a recording or CD available?
The organ iin this video is just fantastic, who is the maker of this organ they did a fantastic job, this organ is absolutely gorgeous. Gerat job you play beautifully.
I'm glad it wasn't the microphone and instead something I could fix. I've been using an easy DVD ripper for other DVDs, but I guess when the sound is this powerful, I need to go with a more professional program. I'm happy it's fixed now :)
" love this one too. It was very touching to me when "Danny Boy" was played by a lone bagpiper at President Hinckley's graveside. "
I remember that too. After that it seemed like it popped up on many LDS sites. I wish Amazing Grace would do the same, since it was also played at his funeral!
Bravo!

I love the sound of mechanically compressed air venting through resonant pipes, but that bitch hoe can't play that pipe organ fo' shit.
Playing the damn music of the devil in our leader the gods own home. FUCKING FAGGOT.

I think the sound would be improved with less use of the Vox Humana, and perhpaps a tremulant open on the Swell?
Maybe she should also have made use of the crescendo pedal on the opening phrase.

Ok. Im giving a recital soon, ill play it, and ask someone to come and film it for me.

Agreed. The Vox Humana has a very distinct tone and any well-rounded organist would be able to distinguish a reed from a string correct?

That's much better sound quality, Heather - I guess it wasn't the microphone.
That's a tremendous organ they have there, but I wouldn't want to be on the organist's bench during an earthquake!

"And when you come and all the flowers are dying
If I am dead - as dead I well may be
You'll come and find a place where I am lying
And kneel and say an Ave there for me:
And I shall hear though soft your tread above me.
And all my grave shall warmer, sweeter be,
For you will bend and tell me that you love me
And I shall live in peace, until you come to me."
an oldtime favorite!!
