Back in 1998 this was the best quality one could ask for, when it came to cutscenes in video games.

As the years went on, CGI software became more sophisticated and hardware more powerful - and both much more affordable. Today, you would only need a handful of people to make a game such as this - maybe only one...

Aye, but C&C onwards things could only get better. I remember when everyone couldn't wait for the latest Namco release just to see a snazzy new CGI intro. Soul Blade, Tekken 3 and Ridge Racer Type 4...lol, we were like "HOW DO THEY DO THIS...THIS MIRACLE!??" Then 3D software became affordable... ^_^

My first RTS, I still remember it.......it's like you remember the girl you lost your virginity to for life! I remember losing my RTS virginity to this game. It's a shame EA killed Westwood studios before a true sequel

I find that this game did very well what it was intended to do: to be an upgraded Dune 2.

The emperor told people what to do, he didn't get himself involved in anything directly. In the book he wanted to destroy House Atreides but Paul became the Kwisatz Haderach and used his ability to see the future to manipulate the Spacing Guild into helping him by threatening to destroy the spice forever. By getting the Spacing Guild on side it stopped his enemies from move armies between planets, allowing Paul to defeat the universe planet by planet using overwhelming numbers.

In the books he controled the Dune but not by himself but by the power of one house (first Harkonnen, then Atreides). Why not by himslelf? Because the political situation was complicated. Other houses wouldn't agree to give him so much power. There was Landsraad and the Guild, Emperor was only ONE of the forces in the universe. :)

Another fan of the books? so am i. Those are so unique and i loved them since i was 12 in the early 90's and they captured my imagination. They inspired many movies from Star Wars, Matrix, Nausicaa, Star Trek features, Dark Crystal, Fifth Element, Stargate to all the way to James Cameron's Avatar.
