Government control is precisely why other industrialized countries pay so much less for their health care. It's not a coincidence that countries like Germany, France, U.K., and Canada, pay far less per capita than U.S. while at the same time their respective gov'ts play a far more active role in controlling costs.

Earlier this year the govt passed regulation on credit card companies resulting in every card I have (13) raising their rates. Some tripled their rates. When Barney talks about single payer he don't really mean single payer. Why? Because that would require Hillary Clinton and Warren Buffet to wait in line behind their maids to see a specialist. It would require them to be limited only to that which the government will pay for.
They want two payer. One government controlled rationed system for us, and a separate pay as you go for all the care they need for the wealthy and ruling class. No leaving the country like Canada's elite has to.

I have a statement and question for all you single payer advocates.
Statement: the one size fits all doesn't work for everyone, it may work in canada and the UK, but that doesn't mean it will work in the US. Also take a look at your history of putting to much power in your repsective governments.
Question: What if the procedure you want is turned down for being to expensive and every industrialized country has a single payer system, then what?

There is no "value added" in health insurance; they just sap money out of the system and cause massive inflation in health care costs. At one time people approved of claims such as "the world is flat", "humans cannot survive at speeds greater than 25 miles per hour", "the sun revolves around the earth" but all these claims turned out to be false.
This sort of "reasoning" is quite common and can be quite an effective persusasive device. Since most humans tend to conform with the views of the majority, convincing a person that the majority approves of a claim is often an effective way to get him to accept it.

I'm cool with the idea of helping someone who is too poor to pay for their medical expenses. But that's quite apart from being raided by people who can pay but don't want to pay for their own bills.

As i said, I'm cool with helping people who are too poor to pay for their medical bills. But that's quite apart from being raided by freeloaders who don't want to pay but rather pass the bill onto others.

What's 'even' about making someone else pay bills that you run up ?
Its nothing more than free loading - passing on medical bills to suckers down the line, The US economy is now falling apart and with it will go all the programs, pensions, perks, benefits..etc.
The whole govt is going to be slimmed down by a good 70% as revenues no longer support these entitlements. Personally I think its for the better as the whole freeloading trend is a run away train that has to be stopped.

When the companies gang up on you to either not pay for your injury or illness and you can't pay up to $200 for one pill I do not want to here any crying from you that the conpanies have treated you bad in the future. then you will ask yourself why in the hell did I pay my insurance year after year, then when you needed to be taken care of they deny you, don't cry and come tell us that you need help, becasue we will say that is what you wanted right! Did you ever wonder how those greedy companies came to be? Did you study the histories of HMO's before you grabbed for the chains of socialism or was that too much effort for you? All payer health care will fail. No system can be made better by rationing care or allowing the government to plan any part of it. Socialism is an idiotic idea that goes against human nature that dictates people want to pursue their own interests.

The capitalistic way is still a waiting list but your amount of $ is what chooses your place in line rather than time. And your "pre-existing condition" kicks you out of line entirely at the whim of a corporation. No one in Canada is denied any health care for any "pre-existing condition" for the care we've ALREADY PAID FOR in taxes not "insurance" (which is no real insurance!!)

The only way they get paid better in the USA is if they don't get student loans in the USA to be a doctor. Start here then leave. If we didn't have our socialism you wouldn't have Canadian doctors. Earlier this year the govt passed regulation on credit card companies resulting in every card I have (13) raising their rates. Some tripled their rates. Everyone else I talked to said their rates increased too. If the govt. takes over healthcare our rates will double in 2 years and triple in 5. Govt. employees cant even flush a commode correctly much less run healthcare. Obama is flushing the woking people of this country down the toilet. At least he knows how to flush.

Listen closely to what he says. Single payer could/would LEAD to single payer in the future. Baby steps. Don't think these guys don't know the benefits of single payer. They DO. The Obama adminstration (including Obama himself) truly want single payer in their hearts. But the games of Washington. Don't forget that further reform can happen! There are potentially *7* more years of Obama. Let a public option prove something...then the next step is obvious. But PO must be tried first
