I wonder why this simple game played within a small court with a pair of men and rackets and a ball of course, never earned a place in Olympics, otherwise Pakistan would had been blessed with a lot of medals in that golden era of squash?
No doubt they're the best sportsmen Pakistan ever produced. Unfortunately the people don't appreciate it as much as they should. Living in Australia, I was surprised people remembered their dominance more than anyone else from Pakistan.
I had the pleasure of being the marker when they met in the Semi-final of the Swiss Masters. It was the best game of squash I ever saw. Jahangir went 2:0 up in 1hour. It took 16 mins for the first point! In the 5th, Jahangir could hardly walk any more. At 8:2, Match ball for Jansher, Jahangir volley-killed 8 shots in a row to go 8:8. JK wins the next point to reach matchball but the referee overrules my call of down on boast which JK then killed. Let ball. 8:8 and Jansher goes on to win.
It would be interesting to see what their head to head record would be if Jansher had come along earlier in Jahangir's career. Jahangir had been on top for around 5 years and had alot of squash in his legs when Jansher started making waves around 86 or 87. Jahangir had hundreds of brutal matches in his legs by 86 even though he was in his mid 20's. That's a major advantage for Jansher. So for me, its hard to compare the two.
loved the video ... thank u.. I think it be very immature to say one is better than the other ... for me both are legends and graceful sportsmen ... on top of that they are both Pakistanis which is enough t make me proud of them. It never really mattered who won as long as it was one of these two great players.. after all it was pakistan and squash who were the real winners.
nope he got it right i have seen both of them playing including against each other,i too use to train at the PIA squash complex on kashmir road, where jehangir used to train, jahangir is unparalled, jansher too was phenomenal, but not as great.
that same squash complex was later renamed jehangir khan squash complex
Great video's, i watch them over and over, personally Jansher is my favorite, because the way he moves so relaxed en effortless. But Jahangir was also a very great player, the records these guys hold speaks for themselfs.
Keep up the good work Zyshaan, im interested in more vid's from Jansher
I am an amateur squash player, I watch the videos of Jansher and Jahangir to pick up some tips. I personally feel Jansher was the greatest. Such fluid and effortless movement across the court.
Pakistan should considers itself very lucky to have produced 2 of the all time great if not the greatest of Squash.

zeyshaan bro u hav done a great job...i m playing squash from last two years....after playing squash i'v relised how hard this game is and the lagends pakistan produced ware the best amongst the best after watching this video and others u put here...great job man.
Thanks Zeeshan bhai for uploading this beautiful video. Great work, respect for all of the Khan's of Pakistan, The great "Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan", "Imran Khan", "Jansher and Jehnagir Khan", "Hashim Khan", "Younis Khan" ... Very nice man. The obsession is driving me mad .. squash is the game man, this video has improved my mentality a million times, the passion, the emotions, thanks a loads mate.
I've been watching this clip, what?...500 times?! and I got curious: how long have you been busy making this clip? I mean, if I am correct, you have 18 clips of Jahangir and 19 of Jansher, which actually represents the end score between the two. If I'm correct, you did this on purpose. If you did this on purpose, you are the quintessential squashpromotor on the planet;) Looking forward to your reply!
Wow, what astute observation. I am absolutely stunned, I wish I could say that I did this on purpose, but I'd be lying, and the quintessential squash promoter wouldn't do that, but when I did complete the video, I did go through the number of clips used and this thing did come up then, but like I said I didn't do this on purpose, it just made me feel that God lend a helping hand in the absolute completion of this video. I can fairly state that God helped me a lot in the execution of this video..
and allow me to sincerely thank you for your continued viewership and such wonderfully positive feedback... I am going to be posting the Ultimate Tribute to a Squash player very soon, so watch out for that, I am hoping you will love that as much as you love this video... thanx for writing in, it's always so good hearing from you and yeah keep watching...
Zeyshaan bahi i love this video..when ever im losing a match or i need motivation during squash i think abt this video really excellent job..secondly i love these two players...i met Jehangir khan personally at RKJK last year ...THEY ROCK. BOTH OF THEM ..THEY R LEGENDS............
Thanx Bilal, I appreciate u taking out the time to write to me regarding ur feelings about the video, I wish u the best of luck in all ur matches, play well and be well, cheers
rodney martin is the only guy to beat both jansher and jahangir,i know he was the only one to do it one tournament, that may have been the world championship that was the only time he could do it,he lost most of his matches to jahangir and jansher.
It is a fact that the two Khans dominated as number one in the ranking over a period of time that never has been beaten before and after. That say's something about them. Comparing it with today's squash can not be done, mostly due to different score rules. I regard the two Khans the best ever, even if my favourite is Chris Dittmar.
Brilliant Compilation. Call's "Hum se hai yeh zamana" would be quite an apt background music for this compilation as well.
I am afraid I find the whole hypothetical match scenario absurd. Jehangir and Jansher were the greatest in the world for two decades. They beat the world playing the game at its best.
Similarly, Shabana and his generation are the best in the world today because they beat the world today playing the game at its best.
It is unfair and absurd to argue hypothetical matches.
if in reality look at the current squash it is the storke payer who will dominate the game ,thus that extra fitness becomes secondry, which is pathetic
zeeshan first of all thank you for all your squash postings you seem to be a fan of jansher more than jehangir, for me jehangir!can you please help me get my hands on recordings of jehangir's matches and especially jehangir/jansher matches recordings i seem to be having noluck in this regard, thank you
Yes, I am more of a fan of Jansher than anybody else for that matter but my respect for all the great players of this game runs deep, I am afraid I can't help u with the footage as I am not at liberty to distribute such things but recommend u contacting SRAs for help in such matters, many times they hold such archival footage, goodluck
i always thought that jansher because of his timing and everbody's love for jehangir, mainly because of his humble attitude, was poorly treated and never fully appreciated in pakistan,i remember how he was booed when winning against jehangir at the kashmir road later jehangir khan complex(my second home,LOL)and how sajjad munir, the TV commentator himself a former world no.6 0r 7 actually came out of his booth, took the microphone from the referee's hands and appealed to the crowd to not too boo
no doubt with those current PSA rules no one is bothered to watch squash , the game of ultimate fitness is left to some ameture players ranked as top 10 who were not even able take a set out of jansher khan
squash has gone down how can you compare a match of nearly two hours with the final of mere 40 minutes, i do remember rodney while bashing ahmed barada in straight sets while he was injured. all those were pure quality nowadays no one in professional squash can break those records
theres always been racket science involved in squash, thus remebering the time when players used to play witrh the wooden rackets , yes the new rackets gives you more control and power same thing applies in tennis as well but the scoring has never been changed though current players in tennis are more competitive
by the way the same PIA SQUASH COMPLEX,on kashmir road, karachi, which hosted many pakistan opens and the world championships and exhibition matches with ross norman after he defeated jehangir, was later named JEHANGIR KHAN SQUASH COMPLEX,while he was playing!another squash complex in karachi of international caliber owned by the pakistan navy was also renamed while jehangir was still playing,ROSHAN KHAN JEHANGIRKHAN SQUASH COMPLEX.roshan was jehangirs father.
squash was on a different level those times , the quality of the players was phenomenol including on top 10 players likes rodney martin , chris dittmar , chris robertson and the two great khans , cant compare the current payers with those great ones.
for some reason although this was my first post it did not get through, played for karachi would train at the PIA SQUASH COMPLEX where jehangir when in karachi would train, saw two matches between these two sitting in the second row,the first row was given to the players so sat right behind them, amazing experience,i agree with you many disagree saying that players now as with other sports are fitter faster, what do you have to say?interested in your answer.
Nice setup mate. I used to play squash in England and these guys inspired me. They are the best. Now I am trying to teach my boys this incredible sport but all they want is electronic games! Best, JK.
Thanx, much appreciated, glad u enjoyed the video and goodluck with ur boys, they'll grow up and come around to what real sports are all about, not to worry too much, I spent most of my teen years on xboxes as well but have now come to the light... cheers
great video. I saw Jansher in the early 90's in NYC at TOC. Got his autograph also! At one point, the rails he hit were so close to the wall, and the shots he was returning were also so close, that the audience laughed in utter amazement and the ref had to quiet everyone down. Watching Jahangir win his 10th British Open against Jansher left me breathless. What a great tribute video! Thank you so much for all the time spent compiling this video tribute, really enjoyed it. Love the music!
I believe u r talking about the TOC of 1995, where he played Eyles in the final and absolutely destroyed him in 30 minutes and yeah the ref did have to quite the crowd down at one point when Eyles asked for a let due to the crowd making unusual noise/s and they were because every rail was returned tighter n tighter. Wat a pleasure having seen him play live when he was at his peak, I am kind'a jealous, but hey thanx alot for the positive feedback and the comment, appreciate it, cheers
Great video. Watched both these players on court back in the 90s in Pakistan. I've transitioned to playing racquetball now but squash is still the best
I am just beginning Squash, and this video is inspirational. Thank you for making this and giving me a glimpse into the rivalry of apparently two of the game's greatest players. Great job with this.
jehangir used to run 5 -7 miles on the sea view beach every morning when in karachi, pakistan,he lived very close to the beach walking distance you could see the beach from his house,in his fathers home, i went to his house twice,he has since moved.i used to run 3-4 miles on the same beach every morning for the month season that i used to participate in i lived far away in karachi in a hilly area, plenty of excellent hill runs and repeats at my doorstep,LOL
dude i saw Jehnagir Khan this year playin in Pakistan RKJK just practicing like tht .. he KILLED a young 18 year old Province champ in a sec..If you see him how he looks now (becoz he has become a bit fat)..and u see his game...NO match...
Seems like no one agrees with you, but I do. Watching them play, they aren't really doing anything special, just really good movement and consistency. Ramy and Power are far better shotmakers, which in my opinion goes farther than any other talent.
Power is my favorite player but Jansher and Jahangir were both better players than Ramy and Power, both Jansher and Jahangir had great shot making ability but they didn't rely as much on their shots as Ramy and Power.
ramy is not only a better shot maker, he is also much faster than these guys. they just played at a time where everyone else was just running and hitting it to the back, hoping for them to break down after two hours. watch johan cruyff walk around the soccer court and compare to the dynamics of today. don´t compare, it is just ridiculous.
Jahangir could definatly outlast Ramy and out run him, he was one of the most fit people ever, and jansher had perfected court movement so as i stated in my first comment jansher and jahangirs' movement abilities go much further the the shot making abilities of Ramy and Power, Why do you think Nicol had more success thsn Power, it was because Nicol was a better mover as are jansher and jahangir in comparison to Ramy. And if it weren't for Cruyff then soccer would b borin, thisisasquashvidnosoccer
did you not know, there is a squash player with name Chrit Dittmar ;-) (I know he did some other sports before ...). He had some increadible games against Yansher Khan, like the Quatar Open in 1992. Chris looked like the winner till the 3-4 last balls. One of his best I think.
chris dittmar is on record saying that it was his dream to beat jehangir,he never did,he was a constant third to jehangir and jansher,he was later overtaken by rodney martin better than dittmar who did better than dittmar, but injuries cut him short he also had some psychological problems for which he was getting counseling, all in all jehangir jansher dittmar and rodney martin followed by chris robertson made for such an exciting era!!!
He did beat Jahangir, it was Jansher that he couldn't get through but he faught ever so bravely every time he stepped on the court with either one of them, I have immense respect for Mr. Dittmar, he's a true legend of the game
dittmar did indeed fight bravely, his career ended bacause of multiple knee injuries.i remember this one occasion when in the kashmir road complex the day before a tournament ,jehangir had come to pick up dittmar and take him out to lunch, and dittmar with a smile said to jehangir you're trying to give me an upset stomach so that you can easily against me,LOL.
I think Chris reached the 2nd place (not for a long while though). In the Quatar Open final 1992, he was extremely close to beat Yansher, very close ...
this would be during jehangir's final years when after coming back from some injuries and mental exhaustion whereby he was ordered by a physician to stay away from squash in all forms for a period of 4 months he started palying only limited squash tournaments,he would actually miss the world open and play the british open instead!
players in their time didn't just hit it to the back of the court, the game then wasn't as sophisticated as it is today but there were still boasts, drops, and all sorts of counter shots, besides Ramy just dosn't have the same towering presence that helped jansher and jahangir maintain their dominance over the rest of the squash world
That I say because everybody in the PSA ranking knows how to take care of Ramy..that is..by playing Nick Mathew style game. and when comparing ramy with Jansher or Jahangir...remember that both of them were champions in there teens.
razamust makes a very good point, the way your saying things it seems your trying to say that Ramy making it into the top 3 players in the world by age 21 is more of a feat than TOPPING the world rankings by age 19
ramy was number 2 at the age of 19 so what´s the deal? what i am saying is that the game has evolved, seeing the top five or six players now in comparison to 15 years ago is a great difference to anyone with eyes and squash playing abilities. hooray to jansher!
squash is took far more professional these times, and Ramy is the second person to hold the world junior and world senior title in 1 year. And you're saying he can't tip with jansher Khan? Sure he can!!
Jasher khan is to good..live long

jansher was clearly the dominant squash player.

Zeyshaan,
I've been watching this clip, what?...500 times?! and I got curious: how long have you been busy making this clip? I mean, if I am correct, you have 18 clips of Jahangir and 19 of Jansher, which actually represents the end score between the two. If I'm correct, you did this on purpose. If you did this on purpose, you are the quintessential squashpromotor on the planet;) Looking forward to your reply!
Highest regards!
ouzmuruv 2 years ago 2
Wow, what astute observation. I am absolutely stunned, I wish I could say that I did this on purpose, but I'd be lying, and the quintessential squash promoter wouldn't do that, but when I did complete the video, I did go through the number of clips used and this thing did come up then, but like I said I didn't do this on purpose, it just made me feel that God lend a helping hand in the absolute completion of this video. I can fairly state that God helped me a lot in the execution of this video..

rodney martin is the only guy to beat both jansher and jahangir,i know he was the only one to do it one tournament, that may have been the world championship that was the only time he could do it,he lost most of his matches to jahangir and jansher.
adeelmc 3 years ago
i remember it now so is SRA,squash rackets association?
adeelmc 3 years ago

Thothali 3 years ago
if in reality look at the current squash it is the storke payer who will dominate the game ,thus that extra fitness becomes secondry, which is pathetic

zeeshan first of all thank you for all your squash postings you seem to be a fan of jansher more than jehangir, for me jehangir!can you please help me get my hands on recordings of jehangir's matches and especially jehangir/jansher matches recordings i seem to be having noluck in this regard, thank you
adeel.
adeelmc 3 years ago
Yes, I am more of a fan of Jansher than anybody else for that matter but my respect for all the great players of this game runs deep, I am afraid I can't help u with the footage as I am not at liberty to distribute such things but recommend u contacting SRAs for help in such matters, many times they hold such archival footage, goodluck
zeyshaan 3 years ago
i always thought that jansher because of his timing and everbody's love for jehangir, mainly because of his humble attitude, was poorly treated and never fully appreciated in pakistan,i remember how he was booed when winning against jehangir at the kashmir road later jehangir khan complex(my second home,LOL)and how sajjad munir, the TV commentator himself a former world no.6 0r 7 actually came out of his booth, took the microphone from the referee's hands and appealed to the crowd to not too boo
adeelmc 3 years ago
my possible mistake, sajjad munir may have never gone above world no. 12 or 15.

what is SRA?if you would please.
adeelmc 3 years ago
squash racquets association?is that what SRA is?
adeelmc 3 years ago
no doubt with those current PSA rules no one is bothered to watch squash , the game of ultimate fitness is left to some ameture players ranked as top 10 who were not even able take a set out of jansher khan
GUNADIHENRY 3 years ago
squash has gone down how can you compare a match of nearly two hours with the final of mere 40 minutes, i do remember rodney while bashing ahmed barada in straight sets while he was injured. all those were pure quality nowadays no one in professional squash can break those records
GUNADIHENRY 3 years ago
The reason for this is due to the changes in the equipment and rules.
1) The rackets are now lighter, moving faster through the air
2) The ball i slower, taking out the cross court smash, forcing players to play straight
3) Games are now par to 11, meaning every serve is a point
RavingAlien 3 years ago
theres always been racket science involved in squash, thus remebering the time when players used to play witrh the wooden rackets , yes the new rackets gives you more control and power same thing applies in tennis as well but the scoring has never been changed though current players in tennis are more competitive
GUNADIHENRY 3 years ago
by the way the same PIA SQUASH COMPLEX,on kashmir road, karachi, which hosted many pakistan opens and the world championships and exhibition matches with ross norman after he defeated jehangir, was later named JEHANGIR KHAN SQUASH COMPLEX,while he was playing!another squash complex in karachi of international caliber owned by the pakistan navy was also renamed while jehangir was still playing,ROSHAN KHAN JEHANGIRKHAN SQUASH COMPLEX.roshan was jehangirs father.
adeelmc 3 years ago
i also saw live matches between jehangir and dittmar, jehangir and chris robertson, incredible experiences
adeelmc 3 years ago
squash was on a different level those times , the quality of the players was phenomenol including on top 10 players likes rodney martin , chris dittmar , chris robertson and the two great khans , cant compare the current payers with those great ones.
GUNADIHENRY 3 years ago
for some reason although this was my first post it did not get through, played for karachi would train at the PIA SQUASH COMPLEX where jehangir when in karachi would train, saw two matches between these two sitting in the second row,the first row was given to the players so sat right behind them, amazing experience,i agree with you many disagree saying that players now as with other sports are fitter faster, what do you have to say?interested in your answer.

great video.
Gemtop8 3 years ago
I believe u r talking about the TOC of 1995, where he played Eyles in the final and absolutely destroyed him in 30 minutes and yeah the ref did have to quite the crowd down at one point when Eyles asked for a let due to the crowd making unusual noise/s and they were because every rail was returned tighter n tighter. Wat a pleasure having seen him play live when he was at his peak, I am kind'a jealous, but hey thanx alot for the positive feedback and the comment, appreciate it, cheers

vary good video. Music is pretty good. I heard that both of them used to run on the beach for several km. That is hard on sand
oldburnhamthorp 3 years ago
jehangir used to run 5 -7 miles on the sea view beach every morning when in karachi, pakistan,he lived very close to the beach walking distance you could see the beach from his house,in his fathers home, i went to his house twice,he has since moved.i used to run 3-4 miles on the same beach every morning for the month season that i used to participate in i lived far away in karachi in a hilly area, plenty of excellent hill runs and repeats at my doorstep,LOL

dude i saw Jehnagir Khan this year playin in Pakistan RKJK just practicing like tht .. he KILLED a young 18 year old Province champ in a sec..If you see him how he looks now (becoz he has become a bit fat)..and u see his game...NO match...
bilals5 3 years ago
Seems like no one agrees with you, but I do. Watching them play, they aren't really doing anything special, just really good movement and consistency. Ramy and Power are far better shotmakers, which in my opinion goes farther than any other talent.
funlovingmonkey 3 years ago
Power is my favorite player but Jansher and Jahangir were both better players than Ramy and Power, both Jansher and Jahangir had great shot making ability but they didn't rely as much on their shots as Ramy and Power.
ryan91236 3 years ago
ramy is not only a better shot maker, he is also much faster than these guys. they just played at a time where everyone else was just running and hitting it to the back, hoping for them to break down after two hours. watch johan cruyff walk around the soccer court and compare to the dynamics of today. don´t compare, it is just ridiculous.
stipedalmatinac 3 years ago
Jahangir could definatly outlast Ramy and out run him, he was one of the most fit people ever, and jansher had perfected court movement so as i stated in my first comment jansher and jahangirs' movement abilities go much further the the shot making abilities of Ramy and Power, Why do you think Nicol had more success thsn Power, it was because Nicol was a better mover as are jansher and jahangir in comparison to Ramy. And if it weren't for Cruyff then soccer would b borin, thisisasquashvidnosoccer
ryan91236 3 years ago
dont bring soccer into this... we squash player generally HATE soccer

did you not know, there is a squash player with name Chrit Dittmar ;-) (I know he did some other sports before ...). He had some increadible games against Yansher Khan, like the Quatar Open in 1992. Chris looked like the winner till the 3-4 last balls. One of his best I think.
BBGBITW 3 years ago
chris dittmar is on record saying that it was his dream to beat jehangir,he never did,he was a constant third to jehangir and jansher,he was later overtaken by rodney martin better than dittmar who did better than dittmar, but injuries cut him short he also had some psychological problems for which he was getting counseling, all in all jehangir jansher dittmar and rodney martin followed by chris robertson made for such an exciting era!!!
adeelmc 3 years ago
He did beat Jahangir, it was Jansher that he couldn't get through but he faught ever so bravely every time he stepped on the court with either one of them, I have immense respect for Mr. Dittmar, he's a true legend of the game
zeyshaan 3 years ago
dittmar did indeed fight bravely, his career ended bacause of multiple knee injuries.i remember this one occasion when in the kashmir road complex the day before a tournament ,jehangir had come to pick up dittmar and take him out to lunch, and dittmar with a smile said to jehangir you're trying to give me an upset stomach so that you can easily against me,LOL.
adeelmc 3 years ago
Hello!
I think Chris reached the 2nd place (not for a long while though). In the Quatar Open final 1992, he was extremely close to beat Yansher, very close ...
BBGBITW 3 years ago
this would be during jehangir's final years when after coming back from some injuries and mental exhaustion whereby he was ordered by a physician to stay away from squash in all forms for a period of 4 months he started palying only limited squash tournaments,he would actually miss the world open and play the british open instead!
adeelmc 3 years ago
players in their time didn't just hit it to the back of the court, the game then wasn't as sophisticated as it is today but there were still boasts, drops, and all sorts of counter shots, besides Ramy just dosn't have the same towering presence that helped jansher and jahangir maintain their dominance over the rest of the squash world
ryan91236 3 years ago
Ramy is the perfect example of how your shot making ability will not take you to the top of the world ranking
razamust 3 years ago
that you say of a 21 year old who is number two or three in the world. interesting...
stipedalmatinac 3 years ago
That I say because everybody in the PSA ranking knows how to take care of Ramy..that is..by playing Nick Mathew style game. and when comparing ramy with Jansher or Jahangir...remember that both of them were champions in there teens.
razamust 3 years ago
that you say because you are a jabberwalkie. do you play squash?
stipedalmatinac 3 years ago
razamust makes a very good point, the way your saying things it seems your trying to say that Ramy making it into the top 3 players in the world by age 21 is more of a feat than TOPPING the world rankings by age 19
ryan91236 3 years ago
ramy was number 2 at the age of 19 so what´s the deal? what i am saying is that the game has evolved, seeing the top five or six players now in comparison to 15 years ago is a great difference to anyone with eyes and squash playing abilities. hooray to jansher!
stipedalmatinac 3 years ago
squash is took far more professional these times, and Ramy is the second person to hold the world junior and world senior title in 1 year. And you're saying he can't tip with jansher Khan? Sure he can!!
