Well. He clearly has problems getting to a girl because she seems to be a 'moving maze' and that probably has something to do with her father, not treating his family and her right.

John is a very sweet guy and he does care about women. You can't believe everything you read in a tabloid. It's not a ridiculous song. He is saying that the way a person is treated growing up effects the kind of person they will become and so you should do the best you can to make sure they are loved and taken care of.
