I don't care if you try to be some mysterious movie by not explaining and letting the audience think about it, the story and special effects was SO bad that the only thing that could save it was a great ending, and it didn't even give me that. Fuck this movie.

But the acting was laughable, the characters were amazingly retarded(the father not even questioning why the mind controlled people are chasing him WTF, mother showing the class her disfigured foot instead of kicking the kid out of class WTF, not breaking the door down to get his son or even make sure that he's really blind and deaf WTF, not calling the police), and they didn't even explain fully at the end.
Seriously, would you kill your wife if some wack job told you that your son is blind and deaf and her death would reverse it WITHOUT seeing your goddamn kid first??? How strong do you think that padlocked door was?????

The kind that has never taken a story structure, film history or film criticism course, but yet feel that they have obtained the abilities to make a highly complex risk taking art house film, that's also combined with a bunch of high concept crap because their favorite film of all time was the Goonies up until film school. Come on he couldn't even adapt this from the short story. He adapted this from the tv show.

I give it a 7. Why? I found it intriguing and different, almost at times trying to be David Lynch abstract arthouse suspense. However, the ending was predictable and delibrately dark, which did not work.

the fact that the man was hit by lighting (witch comes from the sky) suggests that the thing that entered his body was from anouther world. this movie mixes suspense and a felling of ones own conscience. the only problem i had with this movie is that it has to many loose ends. many scenes have the character in a spot to chose a path and to make there own decision with no guidance.

I really enjoyed The Box. You have to remember this is an old school sci-fi movie, based on a short story that's more reminiscent to a classic Twilight Zone or The Outer Limits episode. It's basically a film that won't appeal to the Michael Bay short attention span generation.

Donnie Darko is one of the most overrated movies ever. It's similar to Mulholand Dr. (another incoherent mess) in that audiences seem to give it a pass just on its mystery and quirky factor. It's like they're mistaking inept story telling ability and confusing plot direction, with DEPTH. In other words, they're saying, "wow, that sort of confusing, I didn't quite get it, but they, this must be a DEEP and COMPLEX movie, 5 stars!" No.
Dude, Donnie Darko is definitely not a mess. And you know why it's coveted this much, since it was released? Because it was unique and mixed loads of genres. Because of this, it touched people in different ways. It definitely blew me away.

I bought the book the box, the story it was taken from was called button button.
It was written in 1970 and renewed in 1998
The story was written by Richard Matheson who also did other stories.
He also wrote I am Legend.

movie is just a movie..anything can happen in the movie..either it fucked up the viewer or satisfy it. but for me, making a movie make it a real close to real situations based on real life.. in this kind of situation u recieve the money, then all of a sudden ur life had been fucked up. before shooting your wife, why he didnt try to get his son first whats happening on him.. get an axe smashed the door. or get the gun and killed that freak. that most likely satisfied the audience.

the fact that the man was hit by lighting (witch comes from the sky) suggests that the thing that entered his body was from anouther world. this movie mixes suspense and a felling of ones own conscience. the only problem i had with this movie is that it has to many loose ends. many scenes have the character in a spot to chose a path and to make there own decision with no guidance.

I really enjoyed The Box. You have to remember this is an old school sci-fi movie, based on a short story that's more reminiscent to a classic Twilight Zone or The Outer Limits episode. It's basically a film that won't appeal to the Michael Bay short attention span generation.

If I may, I have an Interesting different version of " The Box ". Cameron Diaz " For some reason " reminded me of a 1970's Porno Actress. Must have been the dresses or the Make -Up, Anyway, Instead of a " Family " they should have used Diaz as a Late 70's Porno Actress, Stuggling with money, bills, and bad Porn Bosses. Honestly I feel bad for Richard Kelly: He's a peak-to-soon er. One great, amazing film, and nothing else to show for it.

Donnie Darko is one of the most overrated movies ever. It's similar to Mulholand Dr. (another incoherent mess) in that audiences seem to give it a pass just on its mystery and quirky factor. It's like they're mistaking inept story telling ability and confusing plot direction, with DEPTH. In other words, they're saying, "wow, that sort of confusing, I didn't quite get it, but they, this must be a DEEP and COMPLEX movie, 5 stars!" No.

Dude, Donnie Darko is definitely not a mess. And you know why it's coveted this much, since it was released? Because it was unique and mixed loads of genres. Because of this, it touched people in different ways. It definitely blew me away.
And it all makes sense, but if you never "got" Donnie Darko, there are plenty of messageboards for that.
You may not realise it, but sometimes you can love a movie even if you don't understand every single frame.
