One more thing, the reason the French decided to help the Continental army was that Benjamin Franklin (you may have heard of him) convinced them to (we still have no idea how he did it). But the Americans did (barely) hold the line and turned the revolution around before substantial French and Spanish forces arrived. The War of 1812-1817 was a draw. The British got their revenge for the destruction of Toronto yet failed to capture Baltimore. The Americans and British then decided to talk.

Back during the American Rev and sometime after everyone was using those line infantry tactics. the only infantry not using the line tactics were the light infantry such as skirmishers. The reason why line tactics were used as muskets were only good for 50 yards or so. In order to hit something line infantry had to stand shoulder to should with comrades and fire mass volleys. Line infantry had to wear bright uniforms so that it would be easier to know who was who

And 1812 you invaded Canada so Britain jumped in and kicked your asses out of Canada and burnt down the white house. In rules of war capturing the capital city means you have been occupied which means America lost. But Britain was true on its word from the 1st war about your independence and signed a peace treaty and left to deal with Napoleon.

Washington fell which means Britain occupied America. End of.
