This is a good example of how far down the music business has now fallen. people like credence were the reason "the doors" were just another band in sixty-nine. there was so much more raw musical genius at the top of the music business in sixty-nine you have to ask yourself, what has gone wrong with the music industry?
I was alive in 69. Off the top of my head here are the musical acts I recall: credence, the doors, the beatles (still together), rolling stones, janis joplin, simon and g ("mrs. robinson" the year before "bridge over troubled water" the year after). Elvis (still lean and mean), steppenwolf, crosby stills and nash, sly and family, Joe cocker, donovan, three dog night, bob dylan, jefferson airplane, inspired one-hit wonders, and now? lady gaga. what happened?and I prob'ly left several out!
@zyxquark It's funny because the doors weren't "just another band". "just another" bands don't sell out an entire US tour before the first show is even played. Yes, ccr is great, but the doors are great too.
@zyxquark come on now. . . .this song is amazing and still sounds as raw and edgy today is it did then, i would assume. But if you are not aware of current music that stimulates you, dont blame the industry. Theres too much variety and access now that its scary, the talent still exists and its available to support them without a corperate music company cashing in on most of the profits too, unlike then
I've been listening and listening to this track and in the end I am very confident that John Fogerty isn't singing live. It's just too close to the original and if search for this video "Creedence Clearwater Revival - Fortunate Son (Live 1969)" you'll hear the difference. Still a great singer and an awesome band!!
I almost felt bad for the one sad motherfucker who rated this down, but then I remembered that natural selection exists for the sole purpose of weeding out pieces of garbage like him from our society. XD
@TheTurbanat0r00 I think he was talking about the fact that it is almost perfect sound, unlike alot of other live performances. There is hardly any interference.
@ChaosOfSpartan in the Vietnam Conflict, soldiers actually put radios in their jeeps, tanks, PBR's, and small radios in their huey helicopters just to listen to this song and many others like it which helped raise morale
The band is definitely not playing live in this video. They are miming to the master release or a special mix-minus track which has just the instruments and he's singing live along to it, which was popular at the time for TV. The awkward stop at the end is a good clue. Fantastic Rickenbacker guitar sound on the record, and this is the same track. Note how the song is in G but he's playing in A, so his Rick must have been tuned down to D tuning for this recording. Absolutely a great rock song.
Despite not having a #1 (but several #2 songs), CCR had the whole "Swamp-Rock" market cornered. Nobody was better at it than Fogerty, with his fantastic voice, writing, and guitar-playing talent. While this video was filmed for Ed Sullivan, it probably wasn't done in his famous theater (there is no audience or front of stage) but more likely in one of the adjacent CBS studios, with a very unusual set (more of a barn than a treehouse) and a continuous 360% camera shot; unique for the time.
Forgive me if my comment offends anyone, but I have a question for anyone who may be able to answer. Specifically to those who know what they are talking about.
I've seen a few "live" videos of CCV, now I really like this band, but I am either amazed or suspicious with their live plays. Are they lip syncing and just pretending to play live, like some old bands used to do? Or are they actually picking up these instruments and singing with their own voice? If so...This band is AMAZING.
@911urded you do realise that when this song came out it only made it to #14. the archies sugar sugar was #1. times haven't changed as much as you think.
ZOMFG I KNEW ABOUT THIS SONG BEFORE IT WAS PUT IN ANY OTHER FORM OF MEDIA!
A) That's not impressive. This is a timeless protest song that many generations are already well aware of.
B) Why do you give a shit about how other people heard it? The point is that it's a magnificent piece of music that's getting the recognition it deserves.
I'm sick of of reading all these stupid comments from pretentious braggarts that think their so culturally sophisticated.
this is the same as the original version. Am i right??? sounds exactly the same to me. maybe they did playback... and thumbs up if you heard this song from Battlefield Vietnam!!! (NOT Bad Company one)
Wow I feel retarded I know every song I hear of them when I was younger and now I finallymlook them up and never knew their name. But man it could have bee something else but they rock, love all their songs especially this one
