@ralfystuff I was going to ask the same!, Also, about the OLD PARR!.. and Buchanans Master Blended (I'm form Venezuela, at the moment living in Colombia).
Love your work, Ralfy, and I'm glad to see you finally reviewed my favorite blend, Black and White. One mistake, though: The dogs are a black Scottish Terrier, and a white West Highland Terrier, not both Scotties as you stated.
i love ur reviews. After watching this review I bought a bottle of Black & white and i got myself "educated" on how to drink it ON IT"S OWN. It's quite amazing although the alcohol flavor is overpowering any other stuff, I can very easily drink this one w/o any cola. I have asked my friend to bring me a bottle of JOHNNIE WALKER GREEN LABEL while he comes from abroad. Is it the right choice to try after Black & white? please reply as u always do. :-)
Hi Ralfy i really enjoy your reviews. . After many year of drinking Dewar's White Label and JW Black Label on ice , i am now just enjoying them neat and am very interested in trying the single malts. Can you recommend 2 or 3 options? no more then 40 us dollars ( for now) I find the JW Black Label to be smooth, sweet and smokey enough. I think i would enjoy a single malt from Speyside and perhaps the Highlands. Anyway, thank you for your fine maltguidance. =) Thanks and Cheers from Puerto Rico!
Ralfy, I have to tell you that if You already don't know a lady-whisky-reviewer from USA, 'whiskybitch', please go and take a look at her reviews from youtube! Now there's a pure american whisky fanatic, a true Islay nut-head! A real fire-cracker!
Cheers Ralfy! Enjoy all your vlogs. I have a Westie named Wee Duncan of Glenlochy, after the now defunct West Highland distillery. In his honor, I have two unopened bottles of Glenlochy single malt; a 1977 21yo and a 1980 30yo. Do you have any experience with either of these?
indeed, like john said. It is not very polite, waving your screwdriver at me ralfy! any chance on reviewing dimple 15 yo btw. It has a nice traingular bottle!
Any plans to make a video on pairing whisky and food? I've heard whisky helps wash down haggis but I'm think of more common pairings like chocolates and cheeses. Incidentally I've also seen recommendations of pairing whisky with sashimi such as tuna.
@ralfystuff ralfy and cooking ... hmmm now that should be fun :) somehow i dont see ralfy as a chef, but you can hop in a restaurant and ask some chefs for some tips ;)
Great Review! Love the explanation of "Grain Whisky" and the explanation of the device in the bottle neck. And of course I trust the review! Thanks Ralfy!
i have switched my blackbottle buying to blackgrouse, so i wouldnt go that far by saying famous grouse is a simple blend. i think is one of the more higher quality blend and SM out there and its filtered at a higher temp than your standard ones.
When it comes to raising the bar, if a man can drink and review 35-year old GlenGrant single malt and go back to do a sincere Black&White common blended review without pretentious slamming of the latter, he deserves the greatest respect. Salut! If you ever get a book out, yours will be the only one I would buy and not download a pdf of, because I want to hang it on my shelf proudly and label it Teacher's.
When you mentioned Buchanan, is there any relation to the blended Scotch: Buchanan's?
Also, if you've had Buchanan's can you tell me why this Scotch has an odd Earth-like flavor? The other Scotches I have are Glenlivet 15, Macallan 12, and the Yamazaki 12. Buchanan's tastes nothing like these.
I was always wondering about those two pooches on the bookshelf...at times wanted to email you and ask, but figured you'd let us know one day. Nice to have my patience rewarded.
Hello, Ralfy. Great review. The "Heart" of the blend is a Dalwhinie whisky. There are about 35% of a malt in this blend, but the taste is so smooth, there's no young grain attack. I think, that also You would probably like J&B Rare blended scotch. Popular whisky in Israel.
Thank you for this review! More folks stuff :) (along with sir's stuff).
How do you compare Black & White with Passport Scotch? Almost same price, both known for light and good coctail whisky values. Are they similar or B&W is better?
@GalaxyHorse Ralfy reviewed Grant's. It was the second best inexpensive blended whisky after Teacher's Highland Cream for awhile, until Teacher's recently threw their entire legacy out the window by selling inferior whiskies. I have not sampled Grant's in awhile, but I assume it may now be the best widely available blended Scotch whisky.
@Polyfusia I don't know about Grant\s I guess it varies hell lot for such huge production but I found my latest buy from this brand disappointment very simple and way too fresh. But that's my personal opinion I don't rly like this young fresh hit and I found that abundant in basic version.
I was wondering whether you have ever tried the Belgian "Single Malt" 3yo, bottled at 46% or whether you have even heard something about it. Reviews tell me it's great, but perhaps you have heard differently?
Very new to malt mania and I have to say Ralfy, your reviews have been immeasurably helpful as I have based every one of my (13) purchases so far on them and I have yet to be disappointed by your assessments. (And your body of work thus far is very impressive indeed). Keep up the good work, these distilleries should be paying you. Cheers from New York!
Interesting bit there about the bars in the House of Commons! In the recent Ken Burns documentary about Prohibition in the U.S., mention is made about whiskey continuing to be delivered to the Capital building in Washington, D.C. Good program, BTW, and right here on YouTube. I've tried both the Black & White and Vat 69 (my dad and uncles favored the latter); I was pleasantly surprised.
@ralfystuff Well then, Fanny's pose and color must be a very popular design to copy. My bank looks exactly like it. It's really old too, I inherited from my Uncle Moe.
I bought Te Beagh yesterday, and drank a wee dram... well, I cannot describe its taste and smell accurately since my tasting and nosing experience is quite weak.. but damn it was so great! Thank you Ralfy for your great reviews !
The problem is that at the SAQ here in Québec we can't find all the scotches you review. But in Ontario it is worse haha, they have half what we get.
@RaphProgListener 34.25 $ not cheap, but absolutely not overpriced compared to some other "things I won't name" , I'm gladly surprised I could find Té Beagh !
I wouldn't trust the pourer as a security device, bar managers and stewards soon will get around anything if they are that way inclined. I've come across simple pour assist pourers and they have been good, enabling a constant pour rate, instead of a glup, glug, slop. If you have a ball in there it's main purpose will be to enable a busy bar to leave the caps off without much fear of accidental contamination or evaporative loss. It makes this bottle more likely to be used in cocktails.
Great review! I'm still unsure on the dogs names lol is it as simple as Bobby being another version of Richard, Dick & fanny being well you know?.. or is that not even close?
its hard for students to start some good whisky experience with single malts... its to much for students pocket... so review of blended whisky (cheaper) is good option. It is hard to find good blended whisky. They dont stick to much to marketing. When people gonna know that there is a difference between 2 blends they will stick more attention to quality of single malts... and that red label is for cola and you should stick to green :)
Ha, I had no idea you were Manx. My grandparents and the rest of my family are from Douglas. Awesome.
