  • i Just followed your instructions but on the 60D and it works awesome

  • thanks man exactly what i needed!

  • Just picked this up. My first flash. Explaining the system to my wife for when she needs to use it. Got to ETTL and she stopped me– "ET phone home??" she said. I love that girl.

  • how about the 50D?

  • Thanks for the video. really liked it :) I have a T3 but I can't trigger this flash wirelessly. Should I buy a wireless flash trigger? Would it work??

  • This was exactly what I was looking for!

    Good video man, thanks!

    :]

  • @SilversilenceMedia Glad it helped. Have a good day!

  • Does the 60D have the setting that triggers the on camera flash first before the shutter opens?

  • @swchftfn583 The 60D has the same system as the 7D for triggering flash I believe.

  • Hi, how do you set it on wireless?

  • @jflorendo1986 did you watch the video?

  • hey... can i do the same on 550D?

  • @Noorulhudad I don't think so. The 600D will. The 60D will and the 7D. Check the owners manual to make sure.

  • will this one work on 1100D?

  • @xie47 The flash will work but not the wireless control. Only the 7D and 60D have that right now.

  • @nate42nd I think the 600D has it too...

  • @magnifikus You are right. Thanks for pointing that out! The 600D does have it.

  • Hi, Im not entirely clear but does the flash have a wireless receiver built into it? Does this mean that if i have a canon 600d (t3i) i can use the flash wirelessly from the camera without buying any extra stuff?

  • @AlexBrown52 Only the 7D and 60D have this ability as far as I know. You can always get a cheap wireless kit if you had a T3i

  • @nate42nd It says it come with "Built-in wireless flash control" is this the feature that the 7d and 60d have?

  • @nate42nd The T3i does have a wireless option. Im surprised not many people know that.

  • @sayrith Yup. Thats one of the reasons why bought the t3i instead tf the t2i.

  • Hello, I am new to flash photography, and I am planning to buy this flash, but I am worried that the wireless firring won't work with my 60D, am I wrong? I have read some descriptions and they said, that if I'll want to shoot of the camera, I will have to use some wire, but I see that you don't have any other equipment mounted... Sorry If my comment is stupid, but I would really appreciate some help. Thank you for your video and answer.

  • @Jimmyczech1 The 60D has wireless flash like the 7D BUT it does not have the same multi group option. It will work fine with one flash or even one group of flashes.

  • you cant trigger it under harsh light.

  • and can you use any of these types of flashes on a canon rebel xs

    ??

  • is this the kind of flash that skateboard and snowboard photographers use ? where they take the shot but the flash is on a different angle , like coming from the side.

    thanks

  • Thanks for this video. In it you mention that there's a way to get the on camera flash to fire before the shutter opens and have the 430 off of the camera firing during the time the shutter is open. i'm looking through my manual and trying some searches and i can't seem to come up with how to do that. Do you mind sharing?

  • Hey. I have a question.. if I wanted to record a video with my DSLR and its dark outside, does this flash allow me to like put on a videolight so i can shoot my video..if that makes any sense.. (sorry im a beginner)

  • @PrettyTattiiex3 No, it does not. It does have a "modeling" option. You can use it to create cool video. The flash would flash on and off VERY fast but would use a lot of battery power. Hope that helps.

  • @PrettyTattiiex3 if your looking for a good video light check on amazon and search for sima ultra bright video light, its like 30$ plus shipping but they're definitely good for video light

  • @PrettyTattiiex3 For that you need to look at the 320 Ex, has a video light on it

  • @PrettyTattiiex3 the new flash guns of canon has video lights on it. but a little expensive.

  • stay chill andd find your word>today isn't a judgement day:))

  • I'm a beginner so if u please would tell me, can I use this flash in very high shutter speeds like 1/6000 ??!! my camera one wouldn't allow me to use it beyond 1/250 shutter !!!

so If I'd buy this one would it allow me to do that ??!!

  • @euyoooo 1/250 is called the "Sync speed" There are ways (like high speed sync) on this flash but I don't know if that's what you need or not. If will let you use higher shutter speeds.

  • @nate42nd

    thanks for ur reply.

I mean in some situations in bright sun light I want to fire the flash to the subject and my shutter speed would be 1/4000-1/8000 (I use a prime lens)

the camera wouldn't let me use the flash in shutter speeds beyond 1/250 !!!

that's my problem !!!! so I was wondering if this flash would allow u to do that ??!!

  • @euyoooo It will allow you to go over 1/250 with high speed sync but you really need another kind or another solution if you need flash at those speeds.

  • @nate42nd

what do u mean by another kind or another solution ???!!

all what I want to do is use a flash in the sunset and have my apreture f2.8 fully open.

also I believe using higher shutter speeds would make the sky more bluish as well !! correct ??!!

any help I'd appreciate it. thanks

  • @euyoooo The shutter is made of two curtains, one opens, and the other closes. The second curtain actually starts to close before the one opens all the way, so if you were to shoot with flash faster than 1/250th, the flash wouldn't be able to keep up. This results in a dark band on one side of the picture where the second curtain had already started to close before the flash fired.

  • @tiger2leong yeah I know, but this High speed sync is allowing the flash to burst many times in the duration of these small shutter speeds !! thus u would have even flash on ur picture

  • Thansk 4 the video mate.

    Greetings from Argentina.

  • of all the video reviews I watched, you are the only one who actually managed to explain how it works when used remotely. Thanks!

  • @hpept Glad to hear that! Have a good day!

  • Nate, a few things:

    1) Good video.

    2) The range of the 430 EX II is a function of both the reception gain and directionality of the Speedlite, as well as the transmission power and directionality of the 7D's wireless flash capability. I haven't used anything like a PocketWizard, but looking at them, it seems their antennas are omnidirectional and provide more gain, which is why they are preferable. At any rate, different cameras' wireless sync will perform differently with the 430 EX II.

  • Hi Nate, Can you wirelessly trigger it with a 5D mark 2 since it doesn't have a onboard flash? Thank you

  • @jackghawaii No, but all you need is a trigger. I have a video on a good cheap one. The Cactus system. Good luck.

  • @nate42nd Thank you!

  • thanks for the good review but just a suggestion, get more to the point, you drag it along a bit too much i reckon

  • 7:31 Ill take a pikchur of these leaves... bitches love leaves.. haaha

Nice review dude, keep up the stuff.

  • i bought this for my rebel xsi. my camera cant trigger the flash wirelessly?

  • Comment removed

  • can i use this flash with 550D?

  • @ashkibala1 I guess. It works on my 500D, but not wireless.

  • Hey there, can you do this with the canon 550D?

  • @yelmorbdahc I guess. It works on my 500D, but not wireless.

  • I am deciding between the 430ex II and the 580ex II. Have you ever ran into a problem where you wished you had more power like u would with the 580 ex II? How is it when using a diffuser? Great video!!!

  • @JayDoc895 This 430 has always had enough power for me. It does depend on what and where you shoot most. If you plan to use a flash outdoors then the 580 might be better. Inside the 430 has always got enough power. Good luck to you.

  • I was wondering if you know whether or not if it works with the t2i/550D? I'm looking for a off camera flash that will work with the 550d/t2i? Let me know, if you wouldn't mind, or anyone else that knows. Thanks.

  • @mdrproductionz You will just need a cheap flash trigger with the T2i. That camera does not have the same capabilities as the 7D or 60D. It's a great flash though. Just get a trigger like the one I have a video about.

  • @nate42nd oh ok cool nate, anyone you recommend?? Thanks for the response.

  • @mdrproductionz Cactus has been great for me. I got mine at Midwest Photo exchange. Good to deal with.

  • This flash has one disadvantage - the buttons. They are really hard to control with simple touch, you need to push it hard so a finger can get into the button hole. Maybe the reach is longer, but you just must have a dark area to lit the flash.

  • pardon my ignorance.. what if someone has another 7d, and tries to sync and annoy with your speedlite? i mean a stranger just near you.. will it mess up??

  • @althegreat17 There are several different channels in the settings of the camera. If you found yourself in that situation you would simply change channels. Good question.

  • @nate42nd thanks sir!

  • it works perfectly with my canon 7D.. Great Flash!

  • Can someone tell me about using this flash with strobes? And I'm guessing it doesn't have multi mode?

  • Hi! I have a canon 5d mark ii, but I cannot find any videos how to set my 430ex II wireless, can anyone help me by commenting to this post please? What do I need to get the speedlite wireless?

  • @euseermide With a 5DMKii you will need something like this. Look up "cactus wireless flash controller" in my videos.

  • is it possible to do this with a 500D?

  • Does any canon besides the 7d have the ability to trigger it wireless without wireless triggers attached?

  • @ryanw2011ww The 60D. Not sure about the T3i. You might look at DPreview. They will tell you.

  • Can you fire the flash manually without the camera ?

  • @IAmTheFilmFanatic It has a test button and also a "modeling" mode where it flashes very fast again and again so you can see where the shadows will fall.

  • Great and helpful video mate

Work on conclusions cos it seemed to me u run out of juice

& please, speed it up, uve just killed 5 minutes of my precious life talking soooo slow that could have been said within 4.30 mins

    Anyway good job

  • Good info & good video too.

  • Thank you for this video. I was searching everywhere for basic info on this 430EXII and 7D combo. Really helped me out.

  • can you use this for light painting? like as the light that you will use to draw

  • @starsdawn1 It has a setting called "modeling light" which flashes very quickly and you could use it like that if needed.

  • @nate42nd I guess i should just look for something else to use. Thanks for replying :)

  • What is the setting to do wireless flash in in Canon T1i?

  • @mondhie the t1i needs a sender and a receiver, like a pocket rocket....

  • Do you keep your batteries in your flash? I've been reading a lot of stuff about corroding and batteries leaking etc. And I just bought the 580ex II so id rather not be up shit creek 600 bucks from something as simple as removing the batteries lol

  • with your 7d, do you need a transmitter for wireless or no?

  • whats the difference between this and the i think its the 580exii

is it a brighter flash etc

    nice vids

    kind regards

  • does the wireless ETTL work with the HSS?

  • Thank you, would you know what the reloading time is?

  • @Tech582 Depends on the last output. It's fast though. Not fast enough for my 7Ds 8 frames per second but faster than most other flash units.

  • How much is this flash and what is the sync time??

  • @Tech582 About 270 USD and Sync time depends on the body. I don't know what the "flash duration" is. Normally the sync time on most bodies is 1/200 or 1/250 sec. Hope that helps.

  • can you use it with the 550D without sender and reciever? and did you used sender and reciever?

  • @kaazvlog No did not use anything but the camera. The 550D does not have this capability. The 600D has it now.

  • how to light up the flash as it is a torchlight to lighting object?

    what is that mode called?

    thanks

  • @tenggilingbocor "modeling flash" I think is what you'tr talking about. It flashes on and off many times per second so you can see where the shadows will be.

  • @nate42nd i dont want that..i know about that..it flash many times in a sec..but i want it torch like a torchlight..say about 10 sec continuously in one fire..you know torchlight right? torchlight doesnt fire many times..it fire once and stay until you off the light..

  • @tenggilingbocor Speedlite flash guns like thins do not do that.

  • How about the T2i , can you shoot wireless with this? XP

  • @zombra89 Nope, T3i or 60D, (or 7D)

  • Will this flash work on xsi wireless?

  • @ROLLABOLLA No, not without a Cactus trigger (or similar). I have a video on that. They are about 50 USD. The camera itself will not trigger it off camera.

  • excellent material !! thank you for taking your time and teach us !!

  • The system uses infra red, that is why is needs to be pointed.

  • bounce the flash in back of the camera?

  • thank you so much for this informative video! I just bought one, didn't have the time to try it out, but I read in the manual that it will need the 580 to make the flash goes off as slave... Thanks a bunch for the video again !!!!!

  • Thank you for this video! Very helpful and informative.

  • @Kletterschuh Thanks a lot!

  • So you can also get a reflector for the flash?

  • @MTBiker152 Reflector, diffuser, all kinds of accessories to shape and channel the light.

  • can you disable the main camera flash and only use the wireless 430ex II?...

  • @missterry2009 No, but you can make it so the exposure only gathers light from the 430, The on camera flash is what triggers the 430. You can get some wireless radio triggers. I have a video on that too.

  • @nate42nd thanks !

  • is that a canon 17-55mm f2.8 your using?

  • can the 40D trigger the 430exii like in this video?

  • @needlessdestruction No, it cannot. The 7D and 60D are the only 2 I know that can do that. Check out the video on Cactus wireless trigger. If you have the money.....get a set of pocket wizard triggers. They are about 10X as much money.

  • hello, i am a guy from mexico city , sorry for me english it's not very good,i buy a flash canon 430 ex ii but i can't using like a slave.. i have a canon rebel t1 its new.. my question its, how can put a flash like a slave and shot from mi canon rebel t1 ?i dont have a transmition and eher a other flash.. only have a flash 430 and the camara . thanks for you help .

  • @santo210884 Hello, you need something like my latest video on the Cactus wireless flash trigger. They will work for you. Good luck.

  • @santo210884 You cannot use the 430EX II as a slave with Canon cameras before the 7D. The 7D was the first camera to come out with that. You will need to have an extra slave for it.

  • this or 580ex ii? i have a canon 60d. im not a proffesional but i like to take good pictures on a budget. thanks!

  • @enwordsand The 580 is a better unit. It canalso act as a master. The 430 cannot. If you have a 7d you don't need to worry about that. The 580 has more features but the 430 is a great choice for the price. That's why I got one. I looked at the 580 and could have had one. I think I will get another 430, All the best.

  • Would this flash work with a T1i if i have the Speedlite Transmitter st-e2?

  • @The12ay Yes it would. You could get that transmitter or an "ebay" one for a lot less that is radio controlled. I think the Canon one is infrared controlled which you have to be in the line of sight. With a wireless one you can set the flash around a corner or whatever BUT most cheap ones take odd batteries. Good luck.

  • does it work with the 5D??? or just the 60 and the 7???

  • @remixology69 The 5D has no flash built in so it cannot trigger it, it would need a trigger of some kind.

  • @remixology69 it work in all eos cameras

  • would the wireless work on the xsi?

  • @Nealntm1 No just the 7D and 60D as far as I know.

  • would this work on a rebel t1i? the wireless i mean..

  • @voodoodan245 No it would not. The 60D and 7D have this capability.

  • @voodoodan245 no, you have to buy a wireless trigger device, i have one,a yongnou.

  • Helpful video. Thank you.

  • Great video mate, bought mine today. Cant wait to use it with my 7D : )

  • @raulwishard I love mine. It's well worth it. All the best.

  • I have owned the 430ex II and used it with my Canon Xti. I just recently bought a Canon 7d and now I can shoot wirelessly! I love it and the Canon 7d.

  • @santa65565 Same here. Good luck with the 7D and flash. All the best.

  • Thanks for posting this video. I have the Canon 7D and just purchased the 430EXii and was wondering how to set it up. Now I have to get some radio triggers due to your experiment.

  • @n2ndcc Good to hear. All the best to you.

  • I wanted to get an off camera flash, would 430EX II work on my Canon Xsi just like your 7d? or will I need some other equipment to trigger the flash?

Thank you so much for sharing very informative and helpful videos.

  • @novazee With the Xsi you would need a flash trigger. You can find them on Ebay or Amazon for 30 bucks. Good luck, off camera flash opens up a new world of photography.

  • 07:57 what a nice spot for a photo shoot...

    ey thanks for the video!!!

  • @asjesus1 I hope it helped you. Have a good one!

  • @nevergive7 Yea, it's a good flash. I would highly recommend it. It IS nice to ahve the built in trigger. You can get the "radio popper" "pocket wizard" or e-bay triggers. There are a lot of options out there with triggering. All the best man!

  • great video
