When you round kick the bag, you need to roll your hip over more. This is achieved by pivoting on your toes to turn your base foot's heel toward the target (bag). This will allow your hips to roll over and your kicking force will be perpendicular to the bag instead of at a 45 degree upward angle. You will hit with greater force and better safety for your knees.
