  • You whiners do realize that this combat stress test does have a disclaimer that this will NOT be what Infinity will be like? This was merely to stress test performance and graphics systems and etc... expect way more from Infinity itself.

  • Mentlegen!

  • why are people arguing? Heck by all your logic there should be no sound either... haha just enjoy what will (is looking to be) an amazing game!!

  • Fake threes no fire in space... No oxygen

  • @DIdirectors Oxigen can escape from ships and ignites before is dissapates in space.

  • 240p we meet again

  • uploaded 2006..........

  • Why no carebears? They are the best cannon fodder we could ever hope for.

  • when the fuck is this game going to come out?

  • heh, those plasma clouds that could eat a hundred little fighters like that one all failing to hit? It's like trying to blow up a $10k speedboat with a million-dollar cruise torpedo.

  • so...they don't have weapon guidance systems in space?

  • @MadShepard No. Weapon Guidance Systems, or WGS relies on gravity in order to detect a disruption in the gravitational pull, locating the target.

  • @Awgez24 LOL! whoever told you that, LIED, that's ridiculous, not to mention the fact that there IS gravity in space how do you think we manage to stay in orbit around the sun genius?

  • @MadShepard technically there is no gravity in space, you must be rotating around an object for gravity. But also the dude below doesn't know what their talking about, there can be guidance but it will take time, and remember this is all pre-alpha

  • @mwjayjr Lol, all objects have its own center of gravity. The bigger the object, the bigger the gravity well. So yes there is gravity in space. Because from the largest star, down to the smallest comet, all have its own gravity.

  • @AroreForLife yes but it must have some rotation to cause the gravity. Look at a space shuttle, no rotation as it moves so you experience 0-gravity. In Star Wars, as R2D2 and C3P0 head towards the planet in the escape pod it rotates, keeping them from floating around.

  • @mwjayjr you must be rotating around an object for gravity? LOL? where did you take your physics lessons? no offence, but that really is quite stupid

  • @rietveen26 find something that doesn't rotate and has gravity. Look at the planets, the moon, and thing in space with gravity...It revolves around an axis point....now where did you get your's, cause I know what I'm talking about

  • @mwjayjr gravity has nothing to do with rotation, like AT ALL. oh and I can name some things that have gravity but aren't rotating; my sandwich, my dog, your lack of brain etc. etc. etc.

  • @rietveen26 if you put a sandwich in space it has no gravity....and yes, the rotation does, you apparently didn't pay attention in that science class.

  • @mwjayjr prove to me, scientifically, that a sandwich in space has no gravity. and while you're at it, prove to me that gravity comes from rotational movement. btw, I am starting to think that you confuse gravity with centrifugal force, if CF is what you are talking about, you're right; that IS caused by rotation, but not gravity. Gravity is supposed to be caused by a particle called the higgs boson, the (as yet unfound) particle that gives mass and so, gives gravity as well.

  • @mwjayjr Ok Einstein, then could you please explain why there is gravity on our own Moon? .. which also doesnt rotate in case YOU didnt pay attention in science class...

  • @djtonylee you apparently didn't pay attention in science class either. Gravity is a property of mass. Any object, from the smallest quantum particle to superclusters of galaxies have mass and therefore gravity. The amount of gravity is proportional to the amount of mass, which is why very small but very dense objects, like singularities can warp space-time with gravity. The Moon has about 1/6 the gravity of Earth, tellingly the Moon has about 1/6 the mass...

  • @Kaleban

    - it really gets fucked up when you find out the current theory on where gravity comes from... the pull between dimensions utilizing atoms as interdimensional gateways! ... yeah, quantum physics... who says sci-fi cant be real sometimes? :P

  • @mwjayjr you need to review your physics. gravity is a result of mass, not rotation/orbit. if that were true, many of the objects in our solar syatem would not be able to hold their moons in orbit due to low rotation.

  • @MindlessSpark yes mass effects it, but if it just floated there ad did nothing it would have no gravity

  • @mwjayjr seriously, there are Millions of objects that have no rotation, but exert gravity on surrounding objects. LOOK IT UP. i am a physics major, i know this stuff. force of g=(G*m1*m2)/(d^2). now, if an object is near another, but not orbiting, then the smaller object would fall straight into the larger one. however, BOTH STILL HAVE GRAVITY, REGARDLESS OF ROTATION

  • @MindlessSpark well I doubt it because there is nothing that doesn't rotate with gravity. Even our sun rotates, granted mass has an effect but you could stick a large mass in space and it would have no gravitational pull unless it had a axis of rotation. That's why satellites don't tend to be surrounded by space junk, it just passes by.

  • @mw actually satellites are free of debris because their gravitational force is too small to even attract a sand particle, that only happens when an object (avg. density) has a diameter of 750 metres, only then will it start to have a profound effect. oh and the fact that most things in the universe spin does not mean that gravity is caused by that; if you use that logic, the fact that the sun rotates might just as well prove global warming. it makes no sense and you haven't quoted any sources

  • @rietveen26 If you really want to get technical, Gravity is a theory. which mean we would be agruing over something that has not been proven to actually exist. Meaning anything we argue could be true but, we could also both be wrong

  • @mwjayjr scientific theory is different from the theory you think it means... idiot

  • I am....not being held by gravity. I am...being held by little turtle shells below my feet that are invisible that somehow make the ground below my feet...and then elephant tails are holding those up also! :P

  • @brocomeatmebro @rietveen26 A theory is something assumed to exist, there is proof something is there but not what it is. Even with gravity, we assume it exists because we stay here, but there is also the possibility that it doesn't exist, and that what keeps us where we are, and everything else in the universe, is nothing at all.

  • @mwjayjr thats it, im done arguing. if you want to be ignorant, go ahead, i wont waste my time trying to explain this to you, your obviously hopeless. FYI, everything has its own gravity, with or without rotation, even the sattelites in orbit have gravity, albeit extremely small, negligble even. gravity is caused by mass, not rotation. any "gravity" caused by rotation is centriputal force, not gravity. planets do not need to rotate to have gravity, nothing does. for the last time, LOOK IT UP!

  • @MindlessSpark Gravity is a theory, LOOK IT UP! lol

  • @mwjayjr i know that, but THIS is the way the theory works. stop changing the argument, we were not arguing about if it was a theory or not, we were arguing about how gravity is explained in that theory.

  • @mwjayjr Wow you are contradicting yourself you said for gravity YOU must be rotating around an object NOT the object has to rotate around hes axis bottom line...you suck

  • @mwjayjr Gravity is EVERYWHERE Who told you that you must be rotating around something to have a gravitational effect is...offcially the dumbest person in the universe

  • Do a barrel roll!!!

  • This has tough combat. Shooting a needle in a haystack, while it is flying 500m/s... its a lot harder than it looks, when there is another skilled pilot maneuvering for superior possition in a fleet of haystacks. I would say I cant wait for release, but the fact remains... I will, and am.

I pity those who encounter my systems... I have been a member of EGOSOFT Devnet, for 5 years and counting. I WILL have defenses... dogfighting, will be for fun.

    ;)

See you in space, or planetside...

    ;D

  • For a prototype this looks really cool, looks like a load of fun already. Personally I hope we get a shitload of weapons, otherwise it might be boring in the long run.

    Thumbs up for AC/DC

  • This demo is probably nothing like how the final game will be, the demo was just a taste.

  • they need to steal *entirely* steal freespace 2's combat system. This doesnt look as good (obviously the whole universe is insane im just referring to the combat mechanics)

  • few questions

    1. will there be homeing missles

2.will there be mining to make money create fleets ect

3 can you colonize a planet make it your home and every thing and farm the planet for it's natural resources?

  • @RoundersLP2 I'm not sure about mining planets, but according to the website you can mine some stuff, and you can actually OWN a planet

  • the firing of lasers is (or whatever those weapons are) is perfect 8th note subadivision of shoot to thrill

  • another fps......in space...

  • @becauseigame fps like first person shooting or fps like fcking piece of shiť? XD

  • @RastyTheOne is there a difference anymore? XD

  • Gentelmen? Do you mean gentlemen or gentile men?

  • Infinity Combat Prototype is standalone game to test components of Infinity before its done.It a COMPLETELY SEPARATE game that only share engine. DOES NOT show what you find in Infinity. Its goal:test graphics engine, physics engine, networking engine, experiment with controls/combat mechanics /balance to improve stability/fix bugs and measure/stress performance. The combat prototype is NOT meant to have deep gameplay; The gameplay is arena based while Infinity will be a FULLY OPEN "sandbox" game

  • this is not the real game i think its only a minigame inside the main game

  • To be fair this was fucking 5 years ago

  • Comment removed

  • Looks like an almost finished Miner Wars

  • This vid caused me to redownload vendetta online.

  • @TwilightTriEdge

    1. Fuck realism. It's a video game.

    2. Why do you assume they are lasers? They might be plasma bolts or particle beams.

    3. If the game were realistic, there wouldn't be pilots at all. They would just be fucking miniature auto-piloted borg cubes. What a fun game it would be to sit around and watch little blocks of metal randomly blowup in space.

    4. Find a sci-fi movie/show/game WITHOUT inconsistencies.

  • @name887 You sir have owned the Twilight noob :)

  • @name887 1. It being a video game doesn't exclude realism.... so - no - don't fuck realism -- and by realistic graphical representation and a detailed phyisics model - not realism in a sence that it's rules have to adhere to nature -- pigs can fly but the have to impact their surroundings and be impacted by it and look believable as a pig

  • @symelian But why should a flying pig have to be represented realistically? What if the game's more fun if they're NOT realistic? Shouldn't the developers work to make the game as fun as possible, not an accurate representation of real life? After all, fun is the point of video games.

  • @name887 "What if the game's more fun if they're NOT realistic? " - I didn't say that the representation has to be of real life - in fact i said it DOESN'T have to be that - just that it has to be a more detailed representation of anything it want's to be ... with more interaction, more reaction - more choice! ...

I don't see how any of what i have said in the first, or even this post would make a game less fun (???) - more choice, more things to do, and more possible solutions and interactions

  • @name887 cont... make a game more fun to me...

You can make a fantasy game i.e. not a representation of real life up can be down, in can be out, and so on but make it as detailed as possible, more interactive, in any style you want representing anything you can think of ...

and at the end - no one ever said or could ever say that what's fun for you has to be fun for me and the opposite ...

  • @symelian I see. I misunderstood you. I though you were using the flying pig example to mean that if you changed something in a game so that it was not realistic, it should impose change on the things around it in a realistic way. My comment about it being more fun if its not realistic was a response to that. I completely agree with what your saying now that I understand it.

  • Perfect music... AC/DC RULZ!!!!! Goes to a perfect game!!!!!

  • A good example of space dogfighting: /watch?v=LUJfLhTnZe0

While something similar would rule, give players a way to escape or alter the turning fight, which basically goes on forever with human players. Maybe a way to exit and do a rapid boost-assisted turn 180 that forces the other player to compensate.

Where possible, good combat should almost be like a dance.

  • Time to practice on Colony Wars : P

  • not very good this lasers look silly

  • It might just be the anime fan in me, but what this vid needs is a Macross Missile Massacre!

  • @TwilightTriEdge

lasers in star wars are made of pure concentrated light enegy powered by an extremely power gas called tabana gas, now stop trolling or ranting about how realistic star wars is... ITS A FRICKING SCI-FI!

  • @TwilightTriEdge Because I can see a game being really fun if we don't hear any of the sounds of things near-by because of the vacuum, and have invisible weapons. Perhaps we should just use AI's for everything and make this amazing game into... a film? Thought not...

  • An adaptive cross-hare would be useful.. this video evidences some poor shooting from lack of ability to aim. Even right now, our military pilots have computerised help with aim... it's not WWII any more!

  • Only thing I have against this video is that the famous nebula would not look like that if you was that close to it, chances are it would not even exist!

  • @TwilightTriEdge Who said anything about lasers? Maybe these are particle accelerators.

  • Will you be able to get out of your ship when you land on a planet? I'm hoping it can be like swg times 1,000!

  • I can only imagine what it is like to with space combat on te border of the atmosphere, omg, this is going to fucking rock everyones pants off so bad its not even funny.

  • u listen to some gayass music

  • @usucklolhahaha And you don't have a soul.

  • @usucklolhahaha Opinions opinions..

  • i was hoping for more of a gta in space kinda style, where like you can jack someones space ship or you can go out the ship. bot another eve game

  • @xTheDeathSaintx

Dude....that's the must retarted comment here....

how do you know we wont be able to do all that?

  • @xTheDeathSaintx You realise this is pre-alpha right?

  • @danielkronos yea but you can already see there aiming for a eve online kinda thing. its gunna be lots of travelin n lots of custom ships but nothing real crazy

  • VERY nice choice of music

  • WHEN CAN I PLAY pl0x?!?!?

  • I missed the like button

  • @Killall1781 At least you told us... not many people do.

  • This reminds me of the anime-style combat in Macross Frontier, it's awesome!!

  • I wanted to play this thing, but for some reason it didn't work

  • I sure hope we can use 3rd person. I preffer it that way.

  • @Ultermarto You can. Youc an change the view with F1.

  • This is everything Freelancer should have been

  • @halodude123456 Freelancer was a great game for the times, nonetheless. However this does infact look awesome.

  • @TSSIceWolf yea. the thing that always bothered me about freelancer was the size of the planets (too small), but at least they were actual collidable objects, not like in EVE hahaha.

  • so long as i can gut a ships engines, and blow its bridge apart and then leave the hull to salvage I'll be a happy man.

  • That music is horrible

  • Cheesy rock music is WIN!

    Hahahaha!!

  • seems like x2:the threat

  • I can break out my playstation 1 and play better games then this, plus this vid is 4 years old and the game is still not out.

So Infinity must be how long its gonna take to release it.

  • @Lepp123

    Ignorance is bliss.

Go check the official website. This is not even alpha! it's a pre-alpha demo and it's already more playable than most betas I have tested.

  • @gordiflu Don't you mean agnorance ? ^^

  • @Lepp123 First of all, i would like to see a playstation1 game that has a physics engine like this (and this is just the COMBAT prototype)

And second, why is it taking so long? Maybe because it's being made by one person in his spare time.... estimated release date is 2012

  • @AGENTX506 First, it's not made by one person.

Second? It's taking so long because they started from NOTHING, they even BUILT AN FRIGGIN GAME ENGINE!

  • @Razvan1408 I Think that if you had endeavored to properly read my comment, you would have realized that I was not asking why it was taking so long; rather, i was answering the question.

And when I said it was being made by one person, I meant the programming side of things, such as the engine. A quote from an Interview: "Programming-wise, it’s still pretty much a one-man effort...." "...For the rest, there’s a team of 5 other dedicated developers responsible for content development".

  • nice music

  • This game will be a twitch based game with combat sorta like this but you can do other things too

  • @warpendeshia The other things look more interesting to me :P i don't think this type of combat should be in the game. you would think there would be automatted system to help targeting etc instead of fps ship flying. (its fun for a little bit, but then it'll get old quick)

only saying that because of my experience with eve online gameplay. takes getting used to be it makes the most sense. anyways.. Game engine looks amazing.

  • @Jessycormier

No way, its all click n let ur money and skill books do the talking.... F that, bring on some fps and some...fun!

  • MENTLAGEN!! BEHOLD!

  • i like how the supernova/nebula is from a image comosed from ultra violet and infra red detectors..

  • Looks like Allegiance to me? =\

  • This isn't Infinity. This is the combat prototype. Infinity will be hardly anything like this most likely

  • @The111DooD

What is it then? I am legitimately curious.

  • @The111DooD

Errr. scratch my last comment. How I reading comprehension dur

  • LAZOR, LAZOR EVERYWHERE! Wonder when the game gonna be finished.

  • is this ganna be like gta or halo or just a space combat game

  • go to their website if you want to actually play this on a server... the more that play the more feedback the get the faster the production they even have a server to chat on if you want to help with building the game

  • MENTLEGEN! HEBOLD!

  • ...WANT.

  • IM NOT 12 IM 12 AND A HALF BETTER RECOGNIZE BITCH

  • Kids - one word - descent

  • is there no such thing known as "friendly fire" in this game? O_o

  • @rtm1137 grow up and learn to act like a human being, ass

  • @spec24

    u mad faggot?

  • @rtm1137 that's what we expect from a 12 yr old, prepubescent tough guy sitting behind the security of his computer screen at his mommy's computer.

  • @spec24 You are visibly upset. Let me repeat my statement

    u mad faggot?

  • @rtm1137 O good god shut the hell up... Maintain the peace

  • @Saiyan112696 u mad?

  • @spec24 Shut the hell up... Maintain the peace

  • i hope it will be corp vs corp and that corps van built huge cities that can be visited by players :P . having the ability to colonize as corp would be imbah ! :P

  • I cant seem too connect after i downloaded the game how do i fix this anyone?

  • This isn't infinity, it's one of the X series games.

  • @firstleviathan its infinity

  • PEW PEW PEW, that is all.

  • @LeftInBlank lol

  • @LeftInBlank

Its been years since I've played Freespace but from what i could remember I did not feature complete Newtonian Physics or scale anywhere near to this. I calculated the maximum velocity of the Fighters are about 2km/s

  • Let's hope they do something about the lags. Rapid movements caused by lags, that's what made me put EVE away.

  • pew pew pew!

  • hahahah this looks like starlancer!

  • Reminds me of X3 reunion combat, but more epic :) i swear if this game ever gets released it will be bloody excellent :D !

  • Its not like Freelancer fighting in the Prototype... well only a bit when you use engine cut in FL. In Infinity: Newtonian Physics | Freelancer: Well pretty Microsoftonian Physics ^^

  • starwars hardcore style?

  • Looks a little too much like Freespace. I hope it will be more like FreeLANCER where you can choose third-person view and not just from inside the cockpit.

  • @MetallSwede It does have external views, check out their site

  • @MetallSwede "too much like Freespace" How is this a bad thing? Freespace was one of the best space games of all time. Hell, it's not freespace-y enough.

  • @Ehal256 well granted, freespace was a great game, if you are in the mood for a straight 1st person/cockpit shooter. But I've always liked the ability to see my own vessel/soldier/car better... and it was also a game that was too linear for my taste. i liked freelancer better, where you could choose what to do and stuff like that.

  • @MetallSwede You can switch between a first person and third person view of your spaceship by pressing F1. There are multiple 3rd person view for the spaceship. However, you can't see your own character (as in the person) but since the game is pretty much entirely about you doing stuff with your spaceship I see little point in seeing your character.

  • @Ehal256

+999!! FS is the best of the best of the best!

  • @Ehal256 I have a fever! and the only prescription is more Freespace!

  • heh i play ac/dc often during game combat, it's perfect

  • I hope they actually make a cockpit and not just a simple HUD design like this. That will really make the game feel spacey.

  • It actually looks like Freelancer style combat in this video, thats what it at least reminds me of.

  • Amazing. This, along with planetary landings, is going to make the greatest game of all time.

    Song?

  • @alphawolf700 the song is *shoot to thrill* -

    a few of the lyrics...

i'll shoot to thrill and i'm ready to kill - i can't get enough i can't get my fill i shoot to thrill play it again!

appropriate enough of a soundtrack - i think this may be what this game will be good for..!

so here we are almost 4 full years after the vid was posted...

  • Dim the nebula. They're not that bright. That Hubble image was exposed for hours.

  • very similar in concept to X3 reunion combat, which is a good thing! if they can nail this then the game will be flawless...FLAWLESS!!! :D

  • AT LAST! a worthy successor to freelancer!

I mean, i am an eve online fan, but the combat just isnt the same.

    but this, this looks awesome!

  • I don't know a thing about this game so:

    1. is it released yet? ( I knowthis is a prototype)

    2. is it a paygame?

    3 it looks awsome!!

  • @hfcgngf

    1. Not yet, however, watch the new tech demo and be amazed of the work so far :)

    2. we believe there will be a free account, and a pay account

    3. Indeed it does :D

  • i hate lasers, BSG style combat please

  • I tried the Infinity combat prototype. It sucked wind.

  • @MartySchrader It's a fucking PROTOTYPE. It's not meant to be good! It's meant to TEST things, such as the networking, how it handles players and physics, ETC.

  • @s0utht0wnjr Yes, and the prototype was a total craprod. The networking was barely acceptable, the "physics engine" was a pile of puke, and the game (!) "handled" players like something you'd want to scrap off the bottom of your shoe.

Additionally, the support staff were pretty stuck up about how great this turd was, even after having their noses rubbed in the obvious problems. I discovered enough in a couple of weeks of playing the combat prototype to never risk wasting my time with it again.

  • @MartySchrader The physics engine is fine. It's what true newtonian physics is. Go fucking look it up.

  • Sorry, sir, but it was a total craprod when I tried it. Perhaps the "game" has undergone improvement since then. Well and good, but not enough to convince me to ever waste my time on it again.

  • @MartySchrader How was it a total "craprod", as you put it? I had no problems whatsoever. And it's not supposed to be a game. It's a PROTOTYPE AS I HAVE STATED BEFORE. Fucking hell.

  • @MartySchrader

Marty you're an idiot. Do you know anything about development? Do you think games just pop out of the ground?

You sayin this sucks is like judging somebodies personality while they are still in their mothers womb.

  • me too theres problem with ati drivers ...
