-third reson: is a personal point of view but I think is important; many woman I know as friens have a tendence to misanderstand the expression being a "free woman"; what freedom without respect, for your self and the man you are with? A woman who had sex with many many guys does have respect even forself?
Love are based on respect...a woman who don't know what love mean wouldn't respect any man in her whole life...Concequence to that: lie, cheating, manipulation, for the worst cases...

This kind of comportement I think is because basiquely we don't want to suffer with a girl who don't put importance in love, is waist of time and energy.
-2nd Reason is because, more men the woman accumulate more point of comparison she will make with you. It's unconfortable being with a girl judging you all the time("he don't have this but past guy have that blabla...")
You love a person for his aura for what he represente for you not for detail...

3 reason for asking this question exist:
- as christoffgianti have said is a way to have an idea about your sentimental and sexual stability. if You had 20 relations and the guy is the 21 why won't you get a 22 after him ? You say is imature comportement but a man who think like want a serious relationship, if he dont' care you have a great probability that he is with you only for sexual relation and so he will go away soon.

because im nowering down if your mariage material for me personally,or if im just going to have sex with u,i think if a amn knows that a woman gives herself up to a certain number of men she is unstable and does not know what shes doing,plus for men we wish we where the only one or within the first 3 to five because,no man likes to invision what he feels is his with other men

I've done it to find out if they have issues with commitment and intimacy. If a woman has a history of sleeping around, then it's likely they're going to keep doing it: There's no reason to start a relationship with a person who doesn't take sex seriously. Ex: they've been with 30 guys and they're 30? They're probably going to do 10 more. And/or, they're susceptible to pickup artists or sleeping with almost every guy that crosses their path.
