I've heard both and I have to say that in my opinion this one is better than the original and the drumming at the end definitely adds a much needed refreshment from the original one. The "Fans" never appreciate the covers, I love the cover they did of Alec Eiffel and I LOVE the Pixies, much more than the "Godlike Genius" of the Cure.

Does anybody know who does the cover version of Close To Me which is appearing on a TV advert here in the UK at the moment? It has a female vocalist and it's very soft, is using some kind of ethnic bell-like instrument.
Srsly? You've got to be joking - the melody sounds like the theme fom Team Zissou. Smith's voice is better than this by far - "radio-friendly punk" is a kids' genre - there's no feeling and no musical merit.

First of all The get up Kids are an acquired taste but very good if you get into them, and they did an alright job, its rare that fans of an original are going to prefer a cover...Also Marmaduke Duke completely turned Friday I'm in love upside down, but that's what they do, they take risks, and honestly the purposeful offbeat drumming is class in my opinion
