The number of jobs is not a constant. As a population increases, the profit incentive to fill needs & create jobs also increases, so without government intervention, an increase in population would lead to an increase in jobs. The only reason we have large scale unemployment is because government intervention in the economy prevents jobs by restricting travel, setting prices, taxing companies & individuals, prohibiting access to natural resources, regulating industries, etc.

Check out the statistics for the US per capita consumption on almost any commodity and you will see a vast difference between consumption levels in the US and other parts of the world.
