do you offer online classes? I'm torn between Celtic and Egyptian but the local shops refuse to answer questions and send me to the bookshelf. I've been studying for a few years and have narrowed it down to the two. I love your teachings BB
@beatlesfan8171763 Witchcraft is a specific magickal path that is Indo-European, The Cabot tradition adds the Hermetic philosophy which comes from the Egyptian Mystery school, but it is in practice Celtic. If you read my book, Power of the Witch you can get a solid explanation of what we teach and what path we follow. It is not for everyone but if you identify with it, then you will find it rather unique.
Ms. Cabot, do you recommend Christopher Penczak's teachings? I know he was/is a former student of yours and I really like his teaching style. I wish I had the money to go up and take classes of yours. I enjoy your books. Thank you.

Excuse me what would you call a male witch??? ..A Wizard perhaps? and is there a way to find out if you have any natural or dormant powers for witch craft or channeling energy, or even something to enhance this in ourselves, or just to even verify that we were meant to be a witch or wizard
@NovaSquall Hi, one could use the term Wizard, but really the term 'Witch' applies to both sexes today. We all have the same latent talents, the science of Witchcraft teaches you how to develop and harness the abilities we have from birth, the art of Witchcraft allows you to live the path on a daily basis and finally if you are interested the religion teaches you how to live in these complex times. This is a great journey, if it is for you, you will know it and you will educate yourself in it.
@NovaSquall males are equal to females.also take on the name witch.rarely there will be some people that go by wizard. everyone has the ability.no ones higher than anybody else. this is not harry potter
I just want to thank you for your good work and courage in the face of so much hatred and oppression. Many think I'm lost because I'm gay and I'm a Witch, and that's sad. The world is full of hate. People need to see that Witches are no more of a threat than are Lutherans or Mennonites. We just have a different way of worshipping and connecting to the Divine. Witchcraft has taught me that I'm not evil and sinful, but good. What a gift! Love and peace to you.
@MrsPiNKhaZe He doesn't know anything about it. I too was raised christian (catholic) and I personally never liked it. I started looking in the Occult in middle school, and it took me quite a while to get out of the 'limbo' between being a simple Pagan and being a Druid - well, almost. I'm currently in my 366 days, which is similar to the Wiccan Year and a Day. I don't have a problem with Christians so long as they don't condemn Pagans for who we are, and I'm glad that you aren't :).
I admire you, Laurie Cabot :) You are an amazing, unique, wise woman. I hope when you read these comments (if you do) that you are not affected by any of the negativity of others. You inspire me and I have learned many many things from your teachings.
@TomVinegar You are most kind. I think dialogue of any kind if important, if they care enough to post, perhaps they will care enough to learn something, if not then that is their loss. While the internet does seem to make some people rude, I prefer that to the cement blocks thought the windows of stores or the credible death threats when we first started this all these years ago. If 2000 years of active prosecution and persecutions have not stopped us, some unfortunate comments won't either.
@RandomGirl1237 To be a Witch is to live in harmony with nature and to harm none. Different traditions of Witchcraft have different ways of doing this. The Cabot Tradition is well explained in my book "Power of the Witch" but we simply follow a path that turns everyday life into an ongoing majickal experience.
@RandomGirl1237 Please don not become a witch its in the side of the devil a slave of satanisim and celebrating the stupied haloween u most probably o to hell
@mekishiko1919 You are free to follow any path you choose. We don't recruit or try to convert anyone to walk our path and respect those who do not. Your comment about proof and new age nonsense: Witchcraft is certainly not new, in fact it predates Christianity and all the Abrahamic religions. Witchcraft is an art, religion, science and is anchored in Hermetic philosophy. No proof would satisfy those who do not wish to see, but it works for us and harms none.
@celticbattleaxe Nothing is secret in the Cabot tradition. For the thousands of years that anyone might have been prosecuted or persecuted for their beliefs, I can understand why some degree of discretion was important to survival. But today it is an individual choice to practice openly or not, but the knowledge should be taught openly.
I have been a practicing witch for 10 years now. I still have not found a path I am happy with. In my area there are a few groups that I participate in however they don't practice any particular tradition. Are there any books that you recommend I do want to begin following a particular path instead of a "general" one. Blessed Be )O(
@BeautifulBrains15 Hey, if u really do want someone to talk to about this in particular then I can definitely help. I'm 15 and English and if u want to talk to me comment yes to this and I will give u my name so u can FB me or email. Thanks!
@LaurieCabotOfficial what is witchcraft? People tell me it's how people worship the devil, but when you talk about it you make it sound like a blessing in disguise. I'm so confused.
@MyChildsplay People have always said a lot of things. A little research will clear things up. Witchcraft has no devils. Historically witches are much older than Christianity and religions typically fight for power and to convert people. Islam, Jews and Christians are fighting each other now. Even in their own sects they kill each other brutally. We had no part in any of that but any non followers are labeled as evil. It was not true then, but people believe lies too easily.
i understand what she is saying but ive been practicing for 3 years and im eclectic and i feel that i am so very content and i know i have alot more to learn and i really really think that at least for me its so very constricting to choose one path. laurie you are a truely insightful individual but we all have our own paths and not everyones path leads to one tradition
@XPixiePrinceX I agree. I worship an Egyptian Goddess but practice Celtic Sabbats. I feel comfortable being eclectic, although I do understand where she comes from.
@unityspirit51 Everyone is indeed unique and all religions are indeed based in mankind. However to be the most effective one can be in this life, knowledge plays an important role. Healers have an innate ability but a lot of learning as well. Our tradition has functioned for generations and so the knowledge is tested and works for those that seek it. There are many reasons that being within a community works for some and not others. It is for this reason that we do not recruit anyone.
Being raised christian,Iv'e always felt really close with nature and I knew christianity wasn't for me.Well the older I get (only 20) The more I feel drawn to witchcraft! At one point being afraid to take the step into it I tried to ignore the urges and told my self it was just the devil trying to pull me down out of the eyes of christ. it's weird its like I read about the craft for a few months and then at the peak when I feel I am ready to start again I get scared and run back to christianity?
Laurie, i have always felt that my true religious path was more toward nature and witchcraft, it makes me feel at "home" but the years of being raised catholic and being around others who arent like minded makes me feel like im in a "broom" closet and cant come out lol , it is very lonely sometimes
Laurie, even though I may not agree with EVERYTHING you say, I do realize that you are a very kind and patient person, and every time i have seen an Abrahamic fundamentalist become short tempered with you, you handle it very well. You truly were (and still are) a great inspiration to me. every time I used to get angry with an Abrahamic follower (I had a BIG problem with that for the first year or so I practiced) I thought of you. thank you for everything.
Thank you so much for this message! It clears up alot of things. Laurie you are trully one very special person and the world is very lucky to have you. Blessed be.
I Agree with laurie 100% on peoples who's practicing 2-3 different religions at once. That does NOT make sense. If thats what you do, you are confuse BIG time . lol - And you not suppose to mix other religion tools with another religion tools. Example: Voodoo tools can't be use in wicca . wicca tools cannot be use in santeria . the tools is what represent the religion and formed the practice of that religion!!!
I am alone...there aren't any witches here to help me...and when I find one.....the become afraid looking in my eyes...all I want to do is do good for my family....Everbody looks at me as if I am a different person, and i look like the average joe....but i feel so alone in my ventures...i wish some like you was here to teach me!! :(
@BeautifulBrains15 Mastering magick really means mastering yourself, That is less of an outward journey than an inner one. Books on Magick are most often a collection of recipes and do not provide the underlying science or philosophy that makes much of what we do work.. Read the Kybalion and Power of the Witch to start.
by tradition, do you mean pantheon? like don't worship a celtic godess and an egytian god, find one belief like egyptian and stick with all egyptian? sorry if i seem dumb, Im new coming into this, my husband helps me some, but i like finding stuff out from everyone
@lucidfail Having a tradition is helpful in the learning process. Think of it like picking a major in college, ideally the courses offered will get you on your chosen path quickly. Without a structure of some kind, people get lost in one thing or another, then try to combine ideas, that while very nice, do not fit well together and confusion results. The path towards enlightenment is from clarity. A good tradition helps this especially if they have been around a long time.
yes follow the holy bibel stop doing what you are going a pray for forgiveness know that the way you are going if you die you aer going to hell the true is the trueth
@Mr1saacram1rez Thank you for caring, but I think that you do not understand your own faith much less ours. We see the work of God in all creation, this is why we harm none and protect the environment. We are not the ones who wage wars for conversions and was it not Jesus who said love thy enemy as thyself. The teachings of Jesus are of love and forgiveness, I do not see much of that in his followers. Who are you to judge? That is not something Jesus would approve of either.
@LaurieCabotOfficial i was a christian long ago and have to offer this thought after having lived and even taught christianity "i cometh not to bring to bring peace, but a sword" which makes sense since Jesus "father" was Yahweh the god of war a one horned babylonian god "for i thank the lord my god who teacheth my hands to battle and my fingers to war" -Psalm 144. the rest is a bloody history for over 2 thousand years. i like this Jesus, it is his followers i do not like -Ghandi ... Blessings
@kahetel13 Gandhi was a wise man. Sadly all the religions of Abraham seem to have a lot of violence associated with them, it always amuses me when Christians or Jews or Muslims fail to recognize that they all come from that single source. Tragic
welll if you are a child witch your teacher teaches you spells to help you survive and my teacher told me to cast a banishing spell on anyone who mockes us witches.
@MsEvil911 It is best to simply neutralize incorrect energy and put up protection shields against those that would cause you harm.
This has no unanticipated consequences and does not invoke the law of the three.
You might want to learn from Witches who focus on protection and healing rather people who claim to spell people as it is not our way. Trust me I know a little something of survival and about people wanting to harm you.
@PaganSteve tuition for the classes are different for each. Call the store to find out what each is. Typically we can handle 12-15 students, we have a small space.
did u become a withch yourself bacause me and my riend know a withch when we see one because we are real witches. we cast spells on people when they joke about this stuff.
@MsEvil911 Well if you cast spells on people you could be many things, but a real Witch is not one of them. We do not cast spells onto people. The law of the three reminds us of the consequences. I was born into this path, but I worked hard and studied and dedicated myself to this calling.
then it just seemed like I always need wicca to help me just in life if not i could not do anything. it was like trying to drive blindfolded. so i must admit i felt alone in the world. but wicca helped me so much. then i didnt think it was dumb and i realized since being in LA that there are so many movie stars, celebrities, writers, directors who rely on witchcraft. So i understand now that it is a religion and it is SO SERIOUS. I love it but nothing to play with if not serious walk away
at one point in my life i didnt want to do it anymore because i thought it was dumb. i thought well i understood how to do somethings and at my work there were like 3 other witches and they said i was their 4th but i knew nothing about witchcraft so the one started teaching me stuff and then i would get information on how to find information from the other two. so i learned a lot from them, took herbolgy wicca class. learned a lot. moved to california. it seemed magickal here. lots of wiccans
Laurie, is it not so that a "true witch" is not a "made" witch but, a natural witch? Would you not agree that one can not learn to be a witch but, instead embrace or resist one's natural inclinations? Thank you for sharing your experience and advise. Bright Blessings
@flickersweet I do not know about made or not made, I do know about educated or not. To be a Witch is to be educated and to be clergy is to help others. Education is nothing if the information is not internalized and understood, books are rarely the answer but they can provide clues. I shy away from belief as well as that seems too convenient sometimes to abandon thinking.
@ScenicWitch I would only note that in Witchcraft we do not have a "middle man". We have no need like the Christians of passing through a priest. A tradition is mostly for holistic education and support of the community. Being eclectic can be a good thing, just like home schooling. It depends on the individual. I find that establishing a focused and functioning base, prevents errors and confusion later on. Not to mention that there is a lot of nonsense that passes for truth out there.
Just because someone decides to take a solitary/eclectic path does not make them any less of a Witch. I have to agree with other posters that sticking to "one set path" is too restricting, and some (like myself) do not feel like it allows for spiritual growth within the Craft. I also agree that there is a lot of b.s. out there, but most solitaries that I've met are intelligent enough to be able to ignore it.
Laurie, thank you very much for replying to my message. I did want to comment on your statement about "cleaning out your own house" by saying again that the Word of God clearly exposes the RCC as NOT true Christianity (I am a Protestant, a born again believer in Jesus by faith). Jesus himself said that "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven." (Matt 7:21 KJV) We witness to Catholics too!
@Christ4Life316 Perhaps you feel it so, but even amongst the protestants there are and were divisions, we need not look far to see the violence of the Puritans. They too felt they were right. As soon as anyone feels that only THEY know the truth, I become worried. The Abrahamic religions of which Christianity is one along with Judaism and Islam, have a most violent history. We along with Buddhism, Taoism and others end up worshiping God quite well, without the body count.
Laurie, I am glad you have no problems with Jesus, but I wanted to correct you about the conclusion to your comment. You are confusing Catholicism with Biblical Christianity, where the Catholic Church persecuted Protestants (born again believers in Jesus by faith alone) for refusing to worship a wafer and Mary! The RCC IS NOT true Christianity, for Jesus would never condone what the RCC did! Please get to know the TRUE Jesus of the King James Bible and simply believe in him as your Saviour!
@Christ4Life316 I cannot fault you for trying, but you might be more effective and be better served by cleaning out your own house first and stopping the abusive behavior of your other Jesus followers than trying to "convert' a people that is fundamentally non-violent, environmentally conscious and respectful of other faiths. We never had wars or conversions at the point of a sword, we bicker a lot, but we do not kill each other. It would seem we make better neighbors.
Where would one find a witchcraft teacher/mentor? I have been interested for a very long time in witchcraft, read about it yet have no connections to anyone who practices. I would like very much to find someone willing to guide me and help me on my path. Where might this be?
@rivkah My teachers were all people I've connected with here on youtube and am in constant contact with. There are no covens close to me, so this was most convenient for me. Many people may not feel comfortable learning from afar, but if you are willing to, it is easy to ask questions, watch their videos, and learn on your own.
you are very intelligent and can teach us a lot but i just don't understand the need for
a specific tradition could u explain i feel that being able to sample many forms of witchcraft is essential in personal growth and that choosing a tradition can be restricting
could u please elaborate on the reasons i would benefit from joining a tradition
@XPixiePrinceX This is not unlike the decision to go to college. Before picking a major one should look into all options. The strides made however come from delving deeply into a specific direction rather than knowing a little about a lot of things. Few PHD students would argue study has limited their options.Cabots learn the science, the art, the philosophy and the religion. It is a holistic system where all the parts function together. Bits of one thing or another would not function well
Beautiflly said; but I've learned all i know, from books, from personal experiance, practice, i've been in the craft almost ten years, and i live in a town that i didn't met anyone of this kind of path. The only guidance i had and have is from divinity. Would've loved to meet someone who does and talk and talk :)
When i see your videos here, they give me a warm chill, just to hear someone explaining and talking of it :) Thank You. Blessed Be
@cgray6306 There are indeed many people who have a Magickal tradition and use Magick, but Witchcraft as we use the term, is not an umbrella word that covers all of those people, most of whom already have a name and would not want to be called Witches. American Indians and the Voudons for example, use Magick but are not Witches. Witchcraft as we teach it, evolved through the Celts and so the rites and traditions are clearly defined as is the science.
@cgray6306 That is totally fine and I will not try to convince you. Spirit is not a matter to be dictated to anyone by anyone. Joy,abundance and blessings on your path.
@bbysuicidecakes It is not Jesus I have any problems with but his followers. You might want to look up the history of that faith and the the body count associated with it.
@LaurieCabotOfficial So true as a former Christian, I would get confused at the way Jesus was betrayed and the actions of Christians I knew. None of them could have possibly followed every thing in the Bible, and would behave in a very non biblical fashion. But yet they would just ask for repentance and do the same thing over and over again. I knew I didn't want that for me after doing research on the history of Christianity. Now I am studying to be a witch. And I've never been happier :)
Well stated, Laurie. You have not lost your touch, after all these years I have followed you, first as a wide eyed Novice, looking at your appearance on Phil Donahue, to see how we ALL have evolved. And the Wheel turns, does it not, my Sister?
Blessed Be...Merry Meet, Merry Part, and Merry Meet again.
Oh, and do say hello to Penny for me. You ladies would remember me, upon sight, as I used to live in Belmont, and visited Salem often in the 80's.
The way I understand it is that wisdom is power. Yes it is important to gather knowledge of all types of different paths but to be able to apply what one has learned in a practical matter from experience which then becomes Wisdom. Afterall witchcraft is the path of the wise ones. It is good medicine to find a particular tradition that not only aesthetically pleases you but also works and feels correct so that you can have "roots" or a good solid foundation to work on and with.
My friend and I are witches and we are find our paths together, but I think we are in need of a teacher. This will be a problem for I don't know any witches other than my friends
@Lauriecabot, I could not agree more when you say that "roots matter", and that one needs to have an understanding and context of the traditions that they may be drawing from. And, of course, with age and experience I've also found that indeed the Ego often impedes one's progress or limits understanding! Hope that's worded well...been a bit scatter brained with seed starting season keeping me busy!
I love watching your videos, Laurie, and listening to your wisdom. I am currently reading your book "Power of the Witch" and find I can relate to so much of what you say. I so wish I could learn and follow your tradition, but I'm in the UK. Sending much love to you. )O(
I have been reading your books since the 5th grade. No joke you were the first pagan book i ever read.I've been doing the 3rd eye exercises since then. I will always read them. 2 children later I only wish to be able to save enough to join the classes, but there is no way i can pay 800 (both classes combined). Perhaps in the future, I'm only about 30 mins away now, but we are looking to Salem for our next house.
Wise words from a brilliant and inspiring Witch! 'Course, there are also those of us whom, after several years of study, have decided to found our own Traditions because nothing seems to come just as close to our present practice. Hence, I have founded The Covenant of Morrighan and the brotherhood of the Daghda. :o)
Great work Laurie! Exploring the dimensions with an open heart, mind and vision will always lead one to the deeper connection with their higher self & guidance. Books hold the activation codes
But what if you don't believe in one set religion completely? You shouldn't practice a tradition if you don't believe in aspects of it. You may agree with the majority but not all of it.
@Pagyptsian Our path is not about "belief" it is about actualization. Belief was introduced by religions for control, we are practical, what we do works, so you resonate with it or not. With that said, there is an integrity to the whole system that a tradition offers which bears careful study even if at first you do not see the reason for some things it may be important to dig deeper. Examining the elements you do not 'feel' can reveal much about you and or the tradition you are looking at.
Ok, well explained, thankyou. But what if one particular tradition has something that isn't in your tradition, that still works? I practice eclectically because I find that every path has things that work and have actual truth. What is your view on those who make their own traditions?
@Pagyptsian One can borrow compatible Magicks and practices, but only when one understands what is in fact compatible. For example some people use the Seals of Solomon without an understanding of the language they were written in or the culture they came from, others will use Indian Totems without understanding the spirit of the animals and the context or the mythology that frames this understanding. Starting one's own tradition is fine but it should not be undertaken lightly. Roots matter.
so, if i am getting this correctly, things that we may not understand or agree with at this moment, study and it will either be understood later on, or it simply was not our path to begin with.
@jaynswiss Some of the most profound lessons are those we rebel against at first. The idea that our own ego is the greatest enemy we have in our spiritual path is tough for many. That the things that define our individuality are in some cases the very things we need to fight against to become one with spirit. There is a strong push to "sell" religion to people, add a bit of this and that and it becomes a cool thing. Hollywood aspects creep into "Wicca" and it is compelling but not effective.
unfortunately, the hollywood intervention is all too clear. it gives the wrong impression, both positively and negatively. very much a double edged sword, lol! i could go on for hours on this, but i won't!
i very much agree with what you say about the lessons and ego. that is why i believe that knowledge of all things is important. even if it takes time to completely understand the purpose. So, as far as spiritual practice, stay to one trad. , but what of the case where one doesn't fit?
how do i take contact with other witches for all i now ther is none serious witches in my country(sweden) is ther someone who i may contact to gett answers i mean when im stuck in one of the existing exercises discribed in so many of the boks i found im morganian my self.

celticbattleaxe 5 months ago

@LaurieCabotOfficial what is witchcraft? People tell me it's how people worship the devil, but when you talk about it you make it sound like a blessing in disguise. I'm so confused.
MyChildsplay 7 months ago
@MyChildsplay People have always said a lot of things. A little research will clear things up. Witchcraft has no devils. Historically witches are much older than Christianity and religions typically fight for power and to convert people. Islam, Jews and Christians are fighting each other now. Even in their own sects they kill each other brutally. We had no part in any of that but any non followers are labeled as evil. It was not true then, but people believe lies too easily.

Books on Magick are most often a collection of recipes and do not provide the underlying science or philosophy that makes much of what we do work.. Read the Kybalion and Power of the Witch to start.

lucidfail 1 year ago
@lucidfail Having a tradition is helpful in the learning process. Think of it like picking a major in college, ideally the courses offered will get you on your chosen path quickly. Without a structure of some kind, people get lost in one thing or another, then try to combine ideas, that while very nice, do not fit well together and confusion results. The path towards enlightenment is from clarity. A good tradition helps this especially if they have been around a long time.

@LaurieCabotOfficial i was a christian long ago and have to offer this thought after having lived and even taught christianity "i cometh not to bring to bring peace, but a sword" which makes sense since Jesus "father" was Yahweh the god of war a one horned babylonian god "for i thank the lord my god who teacheth my hands to battle and my fingers to war" -Psalm 144. the rest is a bloody history for over 2 thousand years. i like this Jesus, it is his followers i do not like -Ghandi ... welll if you are a child witch your teacher teaches you spells to help you survive and my teacher told me to cast a banishing spell on anyone who mockes us witches.
MsEvil911 1 year ago
@MsEvil911 It is best to simply neutralize incorrect energy and put up protection shields against those that would cause you harm.
This has no unanticipated consequences and does not invoke the law of the three.
You might want to learn from Witches who focus on protection and healing rather people who claim to spell people as it is not our way. Trust me I know a little something of survival and about people wanting to harm you.

@MsEvil911 Well if you cast spells on people you could be many things, but a real Witch is not one of them. We do not cast spells onto people. The law of the three reminds us of the consequences. I was born into this path, but I worked hard and studied and dedicated myself to this calling.

WonderWomanFan4life 1 year ago
Laurie, is it not so that a "true witch" is not a "made" witch but, a natural witch? Would you not agree that one can not learn to be a witch but, instead embrace or resist one's natural inclinations? Thank you for sharing your experience and advise. Bright Blessings
flickersweet 1 year ago

LaurieCabotOfficial 1 year ago
@LaurieCabotOfficial Reposting because my grammar was terrible...
ScenicWitch 1 year ago
Laurie, thank you very much for replying to my message. I did want to comment on your statement about "cleaning out your own house" by saying again that the Word of God clearly exposes the RCC as NOT true Christianity (I am a Protestant, a born again believer in Jesus by faith). Jesus himself said that "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven." (Matt 7:21 KJV) We witness to Catholics too!
Christ4Life316 1 year ago
@Christ4Life316 Perhaps you feel it so, but even amongst the protestants there are and were divisions, we need not look far to see the violence of the Puritans. They too felt they were right. As soon as anyone feels that only THEY know the truth, I become worried. The Abrahamic religions of which Christianity is one along with Judaism and Islam, have a most violent history. We along with Buddhism, Taoism and others end up worshiping God quite well, without the body count.
LaurieCabotOfficial 1 year ago
Laurie, I am glad you have no problems with Jesus, but I wanted to correct you about the conclusion to your comment. You are confusing Catholicism with Biblical Christianity, where the Catholic Church persecuted Protestants (born again believers in Jesus by faith alone) for refusing to worship a wafer and Mary! The RCC IS NOT true Christianity, for Jesus would never condone what the RCC did! Please get to know the TRUE Jesus of the King James Bible and simply believe in him as your Saviour!
Christ4Life316 1 year ago

There are no covens close to me, so this was most convenient for me. could u please elaborate on the reasons i would benefit from joining a tradition
XPixiePrinceX 1 year ago
@XPixiePrinceX This is not unlike the decision to go to college. Before picking a major one should look into all options. The strides made however come from delving deeply into a specific direction rather than knowing a little about a lot of things. Few PHD students would argue study has limited their options.Cabots learn the science, the art, the philosophy and the religion. It is a holistic system where all the parts function together. Bits of one thing or another would not function well

I dont agree. Witchcraft is ecclectic because there are so many forms from around the world.
cgray6306 1 year ago
@cgray6306 There are indeed many people who have a Magickal tradition and use Magick, but Witchcraft as we use the term, is not an umbrella word that covers all of those people, most of whom already have a name and would not want to be called Witches. American Indians and the Voudons for example, use Magick but are not Witches. Witchcraft as we teach it, evolved through the Celts and so the rites and traditions are clearly defined as is the science.

@Lauriecabot, I could not agree more when you say that "roots matter", and that one needs to have an understanding and context of the traditions that they may be drawing from. But what if you don't believe in one set religion completely? You shouldn't practice a tradition if you don't believe in aspects of it. You may agree with the majority but not all of it.
x
Pagyptsian 1 year ago
@Pagyptsian Our path is not about "belief" it is about actualization. Belief was introduced by religions for control, we are practical, what we do works, so you resonate with it or not. With that said, there is an integrity to the whole system that a tradition offers which bears careful study even if at first you do not see the reason for some things it may be important to dig deeper. Examining the elements you do not 'feel' can reveal much about you and or the tradition you are looking at.
LaurieCabotOfficial 1 year ago
Ok, well explained, thankyou. But what if one particular tradition has something that isn't in your tradition, that still works? I practice eclectically because I find that every path has things that work and have actual truth. What is your view on those who make their own traditions?
x
Pagyptsian 1 year ago
@Pagyptsian One can borrow compatible Magicks and practices, but only when one understands what is in fact compatible. For example some people use the Seals of Solomon without an understanding of the language they were written in or the culture they came from, others will use Indian Totems without understanding the spirit of the animals and the context or the mythology that frames this understanding. Starting one's own tradition is fine but it should not be undertaken lightly. Roots matter.
LaurieCabotOfficial 1 year ago
Thankyou for answering my questions.

Pagyptsian 1 year ago
so, if i am getting this correctly, things that we may not understand or agree with at this moment, study and it will either be understood later on, or it simply was not our path to begin with.
jaynswiss 1 year ago
@jaynswiss Some of the most profound lessons are those we rebel against at first. The idea that our own ego is the greatest enemy we have in our spiritual path is tough for many. That the things that define our individuality are in some cases the very things we need to fight against to become one with spirit. There is a strong push to "sell" religion to people, add a bit of this and that and it becomes a cool thing. Hollywood aspects creep into "Wicca" and it is compelling but not effective.
LaurieCabotOfficial 1 year ago
unfortunately, the hollywood intervention is all too clear. it gives the wrong impression, both positively and negatively. very much a double edged sword, lol! i could go on for hours on this, but i won't!
i very much agree with what you say about the lessons and ego. that is why i believe that knowledge of all things is important. even if it takes time to completely understand the purpose. So, as far as spiritual practice, stay to one trad. , but what of the case where one doesn't fit?
