  • Oh thats sad. You need to take care of yourself. Don't let your problems rule your whole life. I hate my life sometimes, but its normal to go through things. You need to live and be positive. Food won't solve any problem they'll still be there once you're full. By the way I heard overweight people tend to be depressed because of the extra estrogens in the body. Hope you get over your troubles and realise life is too short to eat it out.

  • Hi - I agree re carbs and Soda. I drink a lot of Soda -I don't really eat many carbs though. I also walk for 1.5 hours each day with my dogs, as well as my usual exercise but my weight isn't shifting. I think it's the soda. And, spending too much time in front of this! LOL

  • I love the Southern accent Mama Em! So true about fad diets, I lost 20 lbs in 3 week and they came right back and more...in a few weeks.

  • My body is proof positive fad diets don't work. It is scary to think I have been dieting for decades. The first crash diet I did was when I was 12 years old. Stillmans - water and protein only. I lost 40 lbs in 8 weeks, but so began years and years of yo-yo dieting, food obsession and the like. I have done medically supervised fasts, phen-fen, diuretics, etc. I am pretty lucky I didn't destroy my kidneys. I never kept the weight off until I lost it slowly, sensibly and with exercse.

The next step is to give up! OMG, guess what? Me again! 2006 188 down to 160 back to 200 2009 206 down to 198 back to...well please surprise me Mother Nature! About long term goal...mine took 5 months. I've been eating like a pig and gain 1.6pounds in2 weeks. I think I'm ok. Much love ~Daniel

  • LOL Mama Em is a wise woman! The only kinda diet plan that wasn't my own I've ever done is WW..lost 42 lb in 6 weeks..but went off and, of course, it came back..and a lot more. WW is healthy though, not a fad. I do make the cabbage soup diet soup..cuz its actually pretty yummy, and I like that it is really low cal and I can eat a lot of it, but I didn't follow any kinda plan..I just eat the soup occasionally..but then I spend a LOT of time in the bathroom so I dont eat that much LOL

  • Mama Em I think is inspired by watching too much of Stephen King's "The Stand!" LOL. 42lb in 6 ?? Man!!! I lost a lot of weight doing WW too but I was literally starving myself to keep within points and consider it a fad diet. If you add up their Calorie's it's very low - the points disguise that. x

    I've tried crash dieting before, it was really miserable and always ended in a binge hence having no positive effect whatsoever!

    Its hard for people to accept that weight really does have to come off slowly I know some days I wish it did come off quickly but like you said it took years to put it all on so its gonna take years for it to come off

  • Me too - I always end up bigger than I was originally until this attempt when I was at my biggest ever. I wish they were illegal!

    For me the BEST part of fad diets has to be the wonderfull strech marking that come from loosing, gaining, loosing, gainging, gaining gaining!!

  • In the past I tried a few fad diets, some of them people are using in this community so I won't say what they are. My weight loss has been an on going lifestyle change. 19 months so far.

    I couldn't be happier with it. i make sure I get proper nutrition from my food choices.

    I have always said the best diet is the one that works for you and one that you can live with for a very long time.

    I was planning a video about my plan, hope I have time to do it.
