do not send it to sony, just like everyone else their parts are made to break so people send the console in for repairs. save all your data onto something and dispose of your ps3 or sell it on ebay, someone might need parts. u can spend a couple of days in the online auctions and pick up a new slim for less than $200 or u can look on ebay anywhere, if u go to a shop, bargain, dont pay the asking price unless its a bundle they wont bargain

You know i get this problem to and i hear these sounds and stuff, (You know knowone says about the sounds in there vids) like it loads and then it like makes clicking sounds. To me its the reader thing that makes the lens go up and down. I will have to try some methods i see here on youtube to see if they really do work.

This happened 2 me twice. First time I sent it to a repair company an they put a new laser in it an it worked. An now it just did it again. Ur laser is either getting stuck or it needs replaced. But it's way cheaper to do it ur self. Or try to reboot it by being in stand by mode (red light is on) hold the power button until it turns on then off, then let go. Then push it again an keep holding it until u hear 2 fast beeps then let go. An choose option 3 that works sometimes. U won't lose any dat

Update: it may be because ur disck deive isnt spinning your game(for some reason) cause i opended my ps3 up and opened my disc drive and then connected it while it was open, I found out my disc drive wasnt spinning the disk!

The Blue Ray laser/lens is either real dirty or broken, it will probably play ps2 games and ps1 games and regular dvds but no BD discs! I just got the same problem and found today my daughter cleaned a disc with a solution and never removed all the cleaning solution off so it probably got on the disc! I can watch DVDs , netflix, I can log-in to PSN everything but BD discs. I'm going to buy a new BD laser on Ebay and repair myself Sony wants at least a $150 to replace out of warranty!

Im sure you know the answer by now. But you have a disk drive error. In other words, you need a new laser. Or simply a new disk drive. If you go on Ebay or w/e you can get a disk drive from a YLOD PS3 and it should be fine. Or simply search for a PS3 disk drive. Take the cover off (you'll need a T10 HEX screwdriver) and you'll need to take out the rubber stopper in the end - THIS WILL VOID ANY WARRENTY - then unclip the small power supply and silver strip and re attatch your new drive. Easy lol

This happened to me. I JUST replaced my bluray lens and it worked fine for my trial play. I got the YLOD that same day and I fixed it the next day. Now when I insert a disc, it'll say it's. Reading it; but then it'll freeze the whole ps3 up D:-

I was playing and suddenly my ps3 got stucked then i restarted it and my ps3 stopped reading bluray movies and games, idk wtf happened, it does read dvd and cd but blu ray don't, then i called sony and they told me that the issue would be an actualization or the bluray lens and the reppair will cost me like 250 usd or 2810 mexican pesos, wich is a lot of money, then i decided to buy another one for 4500 mexican pesos, it sucks, sony should reppair them 4 free if it's an actualization issue :(

u need to keep ur ps3 up to date with its hardware/software just like u do with ur puter so it dont lag... if u dont update ur ps3 then eventually it'll stop working completely.. but may i see it may be to late for YOUR ps3..ur only option may be to try and replace the lens/reading device with the blu-ray lens but they dont come cheap but its better than buying a new ps3 unless ur not all that technical.

If you know how to clean your ps3, clean it. but if you don't know how to clean it take it to gamestop they could clean it for you. that will make it work, am sure it happened to to me too.

If uour ps3 is not reading disks,

1- re - insert the disc

2- enter any ps3 demo

3- push the ps button and your game shows in the menu

4- push x over the game

5- push x over yes

the disc drive must be fried. or the hard drive's data is corrupted. here's what u can do. turn off the ps3. (NOT with the controller.) and hold down the power button. keep holdin it till u hear 3 beeps. let go. 10 sec later hold it down until u hear 2 fast beeps. let go and a screen will pop up. u wanna hit the third option. and follow the steps they give u. hope this helps!

I'm having the same damn problem. Except once every few days it'll work... for about 20 minutes then freeze in a peculiar way. The backgrounds and music will continue to do as they are supposed to, but I can't move my character and AI characters won't move. When I try to turn it off.... it freezes. Shut down via console button causes it to hang instead of actually shut down.

If your ps3 can still read dvd's but not games and blu-rays do this. Start your ps3 from standby, and press the touch button, then hold it down until you hear TWO CLICKS. Take your thumb off and look at your screen, it should have a list of six things, press '3.Restore File System: Checks for corrupt/missing system files.' It should say 'Some files are corrupt on your system and will be fixed now'. It will be fixed after this (unless your lense is out) Thumbs this up to help other ps3 owners!

If anybody is wondering why this happens, from the little research I did trying to figure out why my ps3 freaked out, an update or two ago, when they were adding 3d (amongst other things) apparently some files conflicted with one another which didn't allow you to read games. But after you go through the steps I told you about, you should be fine. I'm just surprised Sony hasn't addressed the issue outright. =/
