Ah the ipad - a giant phone without the ability to make calls. Oh no hang on. Its a laptop - without a keyboard.. or the ability to transfer files via USB. Shiny product make it all better.

PS Netbooks do have appreciable advantages over Laptops -- they're just a more manageable and portable size. And I like my keyboard and monitor that stands upright.

I like Brooker, but this is where I think he doesn't understand things - Everyone expects every apple product announced to be revolutionary in the same way the iPod and iPhone were. The iPad was designed to be a novelty item to have in your house where you could pick it up and do everything you do on your desktop casually on your lap on the sofa. If you have the money to spend on these things, its great - but Apple don't think everyone should own one, it's a gadget, and only that. (RIP Steve)

fuck apple and all their products, i've had an ipod nano, an iphone and an ipad and i can honestly say i was disappointed with them all especially for the high price they chrage, the battery life is dismal, the content is copious but pointless and the design is well... design, sure it looks cool but who gives a shit about aesthetics when the actual product is shit (asides from teenage girls and wanky businessmen)

I still don't see the appeal of an ipad! I mean the line apple devices show that in a house, you have a macbook, outside the house you have an iphone, so how does an ipad fit into it? Plus an ipad doesn't do more things than a macbook in terms of power. And with an ipad, you still need to hands if you are going out with it as one of the hands must hold the device while the other uses it...definetely a better use as an electronic burhka lol

@TemperatureIndicator I got the ipad2 and its fucking sensational. Its light, its great for children apps, my wife uses it for teaching, perfect Digital Book reader, and its sensational for just browsing content. Definitely a luxury but if you can afford it well worth it

@MrNiceHk I can live without the ipad, we have an ipad at home and it rarely gets used because we have laptops and computers and mobiles in the house. Maybe there is a use for it that I can't see but I'm not taking advantage of it because I utterly loathe apple.

@TemperatureIndicator fair enough but at the price point it just ticks a lot of boxes .. if you dont want to splash out on a Macbook and need just basic web browsing functionality .. then the ipad2 is dreamy ... I'll admit Apple really should get there house in order when it comes to production and ethics, shit I would be happy to pay a little more for the same product, but they make good products that work

@MrNiceHk You can get laptops for the same price as the macbook with much more functionality, minus the OS. I don't know what the big deal is with apple products because apart from the status you get with walking around with an apple device, you don't get the same stuff for the price. This doesn't include the iphone because it still is an amazing phone.

I had a much better OS, but was exponentially heavier and the app store non existent (it was an earlier non android version) If you are into esthetics than nobody does design better than apple. Like I said the ipad is designed purely for consuming content and websurfing, for that it is spot on.

@MrNiceHk Yeah they definitely are good with aesthetics, just not with value for money and for that reason, I pass on all things apple until they make it a little more affordable...especially in the UK. When they do something revolutionary, then I'll be in awe of apple. Until that day, poo!

@MrNiceHk I have a job and a political position. The price tag puts off the largest market they can have...working to lower middle class. It is after all a luxury and people who can't pay for it in these financial times won't pay for it apart from a few exceptions.

I take your point though, but lets not forget corporate ethics is literally a brand new concept in the bigger scheme of things, lets hope they get fully onboard soon or people such as myself will start voting with our wallets.

my biggest gripe with my laptop is the fact it has a cd drive, i know that's what netbooks are for, but netbooks are tiny. I would easily give up the cd drive (which does take up about 20% of the laptops insides) if it meant giving it better performance)
