Dessay et al - Recording Session for "Amor."

I am a big Dessay fan, both for acting and singing. She sings wonderfully here, but I cannot imagine her playing Sophie. I know she has done it, and I am sure the singing is great. That said what is a personality like Natalie going to do with a little cutie pie who is sincere, in love, but (to me) seems to have no real personality. Why Octavian has any real interest in her is just something I accept for the sake of the story, but I really have to suspend thinking about it to accept it.

Well... a demented character can be played overacted. To me it seems she isn´t sincere in her acting. In Ophelia I prefer Edita Gruberova. But that´s the great thing about taste. If we all like the same people, how boring this world could be. :-)

Personally, my point of view thinks that you're crazy to think Dessay's Opehlie is overacted. Are you talking about the Barcelona version? I think that one's more exaggerated that her earlier one in Paris.

Yeah, Dessay's Ophelie is flawless - acting and singing-wise! Who else can hit F-sharps (or used to before surgery) and still deliver a riveting theatrical performance?! [only Dessay, duh!]

I understand your point. I know there're a lot of singers who may sing better than her, but I can't help to like her :) I love the character, you know, voice + acting + personality. About overacting... I don't know, it depends of the role she's singing/playing. As Ophelia, she's perfect ^^

I love Dessay's voice + acting + personality too. How much have you seen of her? How can you say she "tends" to exaggerate and overact? In her Ophelie, she expresses the most tender and subtle sentiments, and in her Olympia, she is a delicate and mannered doll.

Since her surgery, her voice is more "difficult", and as a result sometimes things aren't a simple and elegant - but you really are being too judgemental.

Yes her timber was darken and coloratura became a bit more diffcult but she is still an amazing singer and fighter :)
