  • thank you for sharing

  • live in nz very soon!

  • 2 MORE DAYS!!!

  • Much better than the not live version

  • ok does anyone know how they got beth's wail starting at 3:05 to sound like that?

is there some mic effect added or is that all her.

  • @ablazex07 i think its a phaser effect pedal

  • @converguenza o ok sounds insane!

  • I started this video while already playing the album. All Mine started, and I thought "hey, wait a minute...". Then the vocals started to overlap, and it got weird.

  • I have this CD live.. brings chills watching her do this live.. wow

  • eargasm!!

  • a esos 6 que no les gusta que se piquen sus culos peludos

  • One of the most unique voices in the music industry

  • I seen a studio rehearsal of this song a wile ago on youtube but cant find it anywhere now. It was from about 97/98 and had Adrian running a screwdriver up and down his guitar to make a spooky noise. It had about two takes. Can anyone help me find it? Cheers!

  • the best Portishead song in my opinion, and one of my all time favourites. never heard such a sweet & depressing disharmony!

  • her voice...

thats all the comment i ever need to post about portishead

    magical...

  • doesnt that bass line send shivers up your spine ?

  • Jesus christ this was something special. You can see that look on everyone's face who's sat there - knowing they will remember this for the rest of their lives.

  • One of those songs that can get one soaring to the skies.

    Beth sounded good there.

  • Absolutely brilliant. I can't even find the words to describe the brilliance of this show. After watching it on youtube for years, I finally realized that there is a dvd of this. Totally getting it!

  • as a floyd man? portishead live at roseland n,y.c. first class.loved it back in 2000 when a seen it first, up the doors @ jim morrision.......

  • as a floyd man? portishead live at roseland n,y.c. first class/

  • god damn. look at the peoples reactions. Beth Gibbons is like the Jim Morrison of the 90's. i can only imagine tripping at this show. portishead is perfect music for tripping. changed my life and how i listen to portishead, if thats possible to love them more after hearing their first cd, or any of their cds for that matter. anything with beth.

  • At 0:50 seconds. Is that seriously Rob Riggle?? From The Daily Show???

  • Comment removed

  • I wish I could be there.

    Are they still performing ?

  • @LordCorey yes, they still do! 6th of July 2011 i'm going to see them in Poland, can't wait!!!

  • I listened to Portishead when I was little, because of my parents. I'm older now, I've rediscovered them, and I've realized how beautiful their lyrics are.

  • That shit is ill pa.

  • This is for sure a special tune right here! Ultra unique in many ways. The slow motion video goes great with this tune.

  • this is epic, goosebumps, heaven, fucking fantastic!

  • really great!

  • I dont know many people who like them, but I do so everyone else sucks...

  • Portishead rocks, and this song, when I listen to this song I feel like it's going through my skin... So soft, sofisticated rythm, yet still very strong... Beautiful... I love this groups so much!

  • this song makes me feel high

  • She actually has a cigarette in her right hand @ 3:18, now that's a hard-core smoker!

I can't understand how she keeps her voice.

  • One of the most enthralling live performances I have ever heard.

  • Beth! will you be my valintine???

    <3 <3 <3

  • Still their best song.

    Smoke that damn cigarette, lol!

  • EPIC BASS MRAW MRAW!!!1111!!!!!11

  • .. the best song I´ve ever heared..

  • dreams hwaahhh! love it.

  • In the beginning of the song didn't someone scream, "yo, casper!"? Funny and kind of ironically a proper fit for this group and this particular song, that's if he truly said it. I think the song is very well produced!

  • i think they said "you guys rock!"

  • @bigbigman3 hahahaha, i dont konw if he scream that, but now anytime i hear this version, since i read this comment i cant stop laughing

  • Thanks for taking the time out to read my question bus.

  • I've heard both this and the studio version of this song for over a decade and always loved it, but *seeing* just now for the first time gave me a new chill down my spine! Thrilling!

  • Every songs by Portishead is amazing, but this is just one of those ones that makes you stop and go "holy fuck this is amazing"...

Personally I prefer the album version but this is also pretty kickass...

  • this smokes the studio version :) fucking awsome

  • Anybody is up to do a cover? or perform life?

I am in West Los Angeles, CA

    vocalist, piano

  • I love the studio version but this live performance is even more hauntingly beautiful and bizarre......music to drift out into space to

  • omg nice!!1

  • This is all the drugs you will ever need without the nasty side effects.

  • @criticalzen i agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @criticalzen

    Drugs have side effects!?

  • @osufan77 Life itself is a side effect.

  • @criticalzen the only side effect i had was lack of sleep. this song haunted me all night long.

  • @criticalzen You mean you don't get withdrawal symptoms when you stop listening? that's lucky

  • omg.....damn i'm speechless this is amazing

  • the happy folks were blind

  • UNBELIEVEABLE, this is epic, nothing like this!!!!!!!!!!

    BEAUTIFUL, AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow... this is truly something special!

  • Amazing band, amazing song- Beth has a beautiful and haunting voice

  • Portishead changed my life... I love you so much guys

  • This whole concert was the best i have ever seen, they were better live than there previous recordings!!! Only a few artists have the capacity to interpret and move people live, this band is one of them!!!!

  • That's so true.Portishead is a band that i will never forget!

  • es exitante y reconfortante ala ves,es una especie de buen viaje atraves de la musica, esa vos que dulcemente taladraba mis sentidos

  • wow.. that's all i have to say.

  • This is my winter song.

    Beautiful.

  • I know this is really cheesy but I used to love to walk during the cold fall and winter days while listening to this. It goes with every bit of scenery.

  • Espectacular!

  • One thing I love about this song that's missing from the live version is the barely audible sound of a man counting to 40... but beautiful nonetheless!

  • wow... she screams so hard that her must stay away from the microphone! this woman's powerful voice can make comparison to the tenacious d master exploder!

  • i totally agree. she might be Jack Blacks Female Alter Ego

  • those were the golden days

  • ...oh my god...

  • ...yes... this song is perfect...the effects are sick... mind blown...

  • This song is absolutely amazing. I will reserve it for when I do LSD

  • Their best song.

  • When I saw this concert on TV years ago I was glued. Amazing band

  • oh my god, the woman is just so amazing.

  • the best portishead´s song for me...

  • Eu amo isso. ~♥~

  • My favorite Portishead song.

man oh man, they are amazing.

  • This song samples another older song called "The American Metaphysical Circus" by the psychedelic band The United States of America...a very underrated 1967 band.

Portishead did this brilliantly also though

  • I listened to a copy of this song you reference, and WOW, the similarities are amzing!

  • No closeup of Beth in this part - probably because she's smoking but the producers want to sell the DVD in the 'Land of the Free' nevertheless. That's what I call censorship.

  • I think there is a lot of bad sounding dissonance in this song.. I like Portishead, but something just sounds wrong with this song.

  • Actually, this sounds much better than their album recording. I'll take it back :)

  • I LOVE PORTISHEAD!!! They truly are one of the few bands that sound good live. They are, in my opinion, with Bauhaus, Radiohead, The Cure, Morrissey, Morcheeba, and Sneaker Pimps. AWESOME!!

  • I love Radioheac and the Cure, too!

  • Cool. I often feel I'm the only one. My other friends don't tend to like the same music.

  • Yes, I know this. But I hear Björk very much, too. You too?

  • I sooooo love Björk(The Sugarcubes) too!! THE THE is a cool group too.

  • Wow! The Sugarcubes are great and i love everything of Björk, too. Don't know why, but you have a great music taste! Thats cool! =)

  • Why thank you and so do you. Not many people get my taste. It often changes with my mood. Their are times when I will listen to only classical and then only electronica/alternative and then sometimes r&b but they all have to have deep minor chords.

  • Yes, i understand. But only that you know: I'm 13 years old. I only say this that you know, that not only people over 20 have a god music taste. =)

  • I'm 31. I'm glad someone so young is interested in the same things I am. I started listening to Bauhaus when I was 6; my sister got me into it. Since then my tastes have truly grown. I miss being 13. Even then I was very nostalgic. It goes by quickly, trust me, have fun being a kid because years from now you will truly miss it. It's hard to believe that almost 19 years ago I was your age. Thanks a lot now I'm depressed:(

  • The time isn't important. If you want to you can be nostalcig now!!! =) You know, I hear Björk, portishead, radiohead, the Cure, matthew Herbert and so on. For example: When I was 4 i heard Portihsead second cd all day long. This was such a great feeling and My fav was Undenied. Now I hear it again and its not exactly the same feeling but its a good feeling. And I think you can hear what you want. I don't know bauhaus so good, but think that they are still great after 19 years, no worry! =)

  • That's cool. You'd like Bauhaus, Love and Rockets, Tones on Tail. Search for those and you will love them trust me. Oh and Morrissey or the Smiths.

  • Cool, I will search for them. Do you know "Einstüzende Neubauten"? It's a very famous german "punkband" (a bit crazy, I mean a capella and such things)? It's only a silly question. =)

They are interesting I think. I must think of them because you said something from bauhaus and this is a german word, Bauhaus. It menas a house of building.

  • why is this the first time im hearing this song?

    beautiful! so so beautiful

  • and that scream is the most chilling scream magnificent

  • If I was in the audience...I wouldn't be quiet

I Would be screming and singing like a fucking lunatic!

    I LOVE THIS BAND!!!!!!!!!

    OH MY FUCKING GOD!!

    I LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Lucky you! I will see them in Coachella Next Weekend!

  • If I was in the audience...I wouldn't be quiet

I was screming and singing like a fucking lunatic!

    I LOVE THIS BAND!!!!!!!!!

    OH MY FUCKING GOD!!

    I LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!

  • one of the best tunes ever

  • This is my favorite Portishead song and one of my favorites tunes ever. It is as perfect a song as I've ever heard. Gives me goosebumps every time I listen. Brilliant x1,000

  • x1000 more. my favorite Portishead song too.

oh, and i love your username... Ian Curtis was [and still is] a huge influence on me --and on the entire history of music.

  • How come Clive Deamer isn't drumming on this one then? Who's the other guy?

  • That the guy who scratch

  • the best song ever!!!

  • i agree

  • Oh hell yeah!!! This is my baby:)))))

  • goth

  • Who in the hell is clicking the "thumbs down" on EVERY comment (besides 2) on here????..."to whomever"...get a life & find more joy in your heart & quit pulling the "hate" bit! Thx:) Have a nice one;-)

  • I meant 'American metaphysical circus' from united states of america by united states of america.Underground 6os psych classic.Great album if you like that sort of thing.

  • Love this track also.if you like this you should check out 'metaphysical circus' by 60s group United States of America and then tell me Portishead didn't rip it off.

  • they gave credit on the album sleeve.

  • This song is such a part of me!!! She & I have been friends for a very long time! I still drop a small tear here & there upon listening to this tune. I can't even put into words the way this song hits me! MUA...brilliant;-)

  • Straordinario!!!..una voce incredibile!!

  • How has this song not been used in a horror film?

  • I don't know why but everytime I heard this song, reminds me of Nirvana...Something dark, painful, grunge...very Cobain!

  • I can see that! I could also see/hear Tori doing a cover of this! She can get VERY dark as well!

  • does anyone know what that music is at the end of this? i'd love to find out, if anyone knows...

  • Just an amaizing MOMENT!

  • perfect

  • too good!!!

  • astonishing!

  • excellent j'adore ce titre :)
