Leadbelly (Huddie Ledbetter) sang it and popularized it, but almost certainly these words and this song originated long before. You have a real smooth voice, clean guitar style.
@bigdjindustriez Lead Belly may get the credit but this song is defiantly traditional. It belongs to continuum of "hammer songs" played through out the South. Note Mississippi John Hurt's rendition called "Spike Driver's Blues."
Just another tought for you guys, you can buy the Wedgwood CD'S on-line,or at any seventh day adventist book store, even their book, apart from that, its very hard to find their CD'S elsewhere,
Good job young man-as a matter of fact i have that CD,and many more CD's of thier old songs,in fact i have two LP'S of them, would be happy to share my CDS' with any one out there.
Hello gang,Wedgwood trio has a VHS concert that they did in Austrelia many years back, its a good one to,they came out with a book out to about their life journey as wedgwood(how eveything started, etc)simple truth(album)i think is one of their bet albums.
They did a concert at SAU in Collegedale, TN just last night. They are no longer a trio; there were four performers last night. While their sound is not exactly like the records we've got from the old days, it was still the same old Wedgewood. (I was one of the people running the A/V setup, so I got to hear them practicing too. Great group to work with.)
that's awesome. my mom and dad both went to sau when it was smc and used to listen to them when the trio were still students there. nice to know that wedgewood still gets back there.
Hey, cool song! Your guitar work sounds like authentic Wedgewood Trio stuff. I just say them in concert this past Saturday night (09/01/2007) at the Loma Linda University church in Loma Linda, CA. From what they said during the concert, it sounds like they hadn't done a concert together for a couple years before this one. It was cool to see them and hear so many of their songs!
Hey! I love watching your videos, you have an amazing voice and talent! I loved the Wedgewood Trio Song you did, would you consider doing more of theirs? Another request I have is this song called I Want to go to Heaven, by lladnekj on youtube I think your talent could really bring out the beauty of this song more than it already is.
Yes, the Wedgewood Trio...got back together a few years ago. Don't know if they are still singing together now though. I met and got to know Don Vollmer back in the late 70's, early 80's in North Carolina where he lived at the time. Even "house-sat" for them while they were on vacation.
You did that song beautifully. You done it the right way.
As I recall, the album which contains the song that you did, was made while they were traveling in Europe for the Summer or soon after. It was the only "secular" album they ever did, as I recall. I lucked out and found that album back in 1983 in a music store in Tennesee, new and unopened for sale. A "once in a lifetime" find, for sure. Needless to say, I was tickled pink about finding it.
I'll see what I can do. It is a record album, so I have to figure out a way to record it onto a CD somehow. I think I can do it, but it may take some time to figure out exactly how. I have some equipment I purchased that enables me to record records and tapes onto CD's, but I have to figure out how to use it. I'll keep you posted. It will take some time though, but I won't forget about you.
As I recall, Don said that they almost starved on that summer trip to Europe as they had little money to live on, and it was early on in their "career". But it was a fun experience for them he said.
Yeah, same three guys. Vollmer sounded familiar but I had to go get the CD to be sure. They got back together after 20 some years. They don't do it full time of course, one is a psychiatrist, one a pastor, one a psychologist, but they travel around and do concerts sometimes, or at least did a few years ago. Are you interested in a current CD? There's an address on the back of this one.
I never heard of the Wedgewood Trio, so I tried looking them up on the web. Seems they formed in the mid-60s and were still going at least into the 90s. They do religious music? There doesn't seem to be a lot, nothing in iTunes (no surprise). I'll check out the public library collections.
I've absolutely loved every performance of yours. You're ridiculously unique, man! I appreciate that you do so many videos as well. I can't believe you're not a YouTube star yet, but it'll happen eventually. However, I'd like to see you sign with a major record label, and I'd buy your album (and a few more, for my friends...). :-)
What's a YouTube star? I'm not sure that I'd prefer a major label release with backup singers and fullband, etc. (though the lazy Irish brother maybe could make an appearance). But while waiting, it might be nice just to have performances like these available--something you could do pretty cheaply. I suppose that there must be some way to strip these audios from the video context & load 'em into iTunes or something....
Your performance here sounds like something out of another time, Dan. i like both the subtle difference in your vocal intonation on this one, as well as the subtly altered camera angle. This sounds very similar to a Harry Manx version of Take This Hammer, with some slightly different lyrics. Sometimes hard to tell with those traditional tunes.
Grear voice and ! Sweet cover.

'fraid that sounds a bit discriminatory to me.....ironic. Curious, is it the "work" part or just general "soul" you think is missing?

Written by Leadbelly (Huddie Leadbetter), not traditional. But good job on it.

they were a sort of a religious group that formed at the college in tennessee where my parents went. (what an awkward sentence.)
