I tried a solar still in Phoenix AZ and did not get any water. It all stayed on the tarp. The stone would have been a good addition. I made a video of my failed attempt, Making a still is a lot of work!
lol this is taking too long.. in a movie i saw they just put a sword above a helmet in the desert and next day they had water but just watch :"passive water distillation"
You could also place the tarp with it fully unfolded out, and place this blanket tarp angling off of a tree, then funnel the end of the tarp into your container to catch rain water in the same manner that people catch rain water off of a roof. This would be a lot easier than digging such a large hole...but...if you had no trees or support systems to hang your tarp from, then digging a hold to catch rain water would be your next option.
Now the whole theory behind this is.. this rock is gonna create the FUNNEL the under ground funnel cause of the weight of it's gonna push down on this tarp so that little SLIT that I had just cut earlier? is mainly for rain water if it rains tonight the rainwater will go into the bucket also wish I coulddrink. SO, make sure you dont fall in the hole.
dude do you think where so retarted that we don't know how to place a tarp into the ground and putting a rock in the middle? way to much effort your putting in.
one could also use this to make distilled liquor, put mashed up fruit and yeast at the bottom, let the sun do your work. You could also use this same idea to desalinate water.
This guy's putting WAY too much effort into this. In a survival situation the golden rule is to do the least for the greatest amount of benefit. The amount of water he gets might not even balance out his hours of effort. That's especially true in more arid regions, e.g. deserts. But, from the size of the materials he's using it's clear this isn't a survival solar still; Nobody just carries around buckets, tarps, tubing, etc. that big, and they're rarely just lying around out in the wilderness.
yeah! In the desert regions of North Americas southwest, I a simpler deal of digging ground water & simply using this method to draw it out to fill my canteen during the day. I traveled at night due to the sun & hunting was better at night then during the day. But at sunset I had a full half gallon milk jug (my canteen). Works REALLY well as filtering & reconstitution of stagnate water also when employed by waterways like rivers, streams, oceans, etc. But what pipes? I just needed plastic & rock
@Hervorragend604 This is an excellent video! Seems obvious to me that this is a 'reusable' method, to be used when you must stay in one location. You'd put in hard work in the beginning, but it would pay off the next day and afterwards. Not all survival methods work for every situation or region, You are to use these tips as 'guidelines' and as examples! This method would also be great for home owners with backyards, whereas they can prepare themselves with these tools before any disaster.
I know you posted this a while back but I figured I'd respond anyway. My biggest hobby is growing carnivorous plants, most of which require rather pure water to survive. The very best you can give them is distilled water. That's why I've looked up this video, myself... not for survival but just to find a cheap way to distill some water of my own rather than buying it or buying a distiller.
yeah... you'd rather learn how to make cheap whiskey rather than learning a potentially helpful tip on how to get water if you're stranded on a derserted island.
It makes sense..I would put a screen over the bucket to keep stuff from falling in the bucket like bugs. In fact I would think that using brine in the water source could kill bacteria in the pit. the slit in the rock is also a good deal how many gallons a day could you make..
