The raptor tops out close to 80mph. Add turbo, NX, build the motor and its still going to top out in at teh same speed. Only way to make it have a higher top speed is to gear it tall. Bigger rear tires add a higher top speed to. Could plug in a better CDI box and get 1000-3000 more rpm and gain a few mph off that. Most desert race quads top out at about 95mph putting out 50-60hp.I hate when people talk about their stock quads doing over 100mph I had my hybrid race quad top at 105 with 52hp.

400ex and 250r are the best handling of all sport quads. The yz426 motor is faster than all the 450 quads since the 450 quads are detuned for trail and are based off the trail bikes. yz426 motor is about 30lbs lighter than teh stock 400ex motor.

Their made for track not trail but the designers detune it for trail and to make rider freindly which they are all stupid to do. If they where smart the ywould use the bike engines and just beef them up a little but their to dum to do that so every one with 450s go spending big money to get the power they want. KTM and ATK are the only smart ones in the atv world they build fast not slow.

look at the HP numbers. a honda crf450r has about 50 HP (the highest of the 450s) but the trx450r has about 37 HP (the lowest). they tune down the engines for atv's to make it more user friendly for people who don't race

dude, i have a 450 that topped out about 72 stock...that's yfz450. i have not changed the gearing at all but i have a 15 tooth front sprocket, gyt-r cdi box, air box lid removed, exhaust cam mod, k and n filter, and yosh pipe w/spark arrester removed and now it tops out at 90-93.

that's according to rev limiter..you have to raise the rev limiter and that's what the cdi box does. then add the 15 tooth front sprocket(that's like taking three teeth off of the back) and just like that you add 15-20 mph.

No. Rev box/cdi will not ad top speed at less you add power. Run a quad in top gear full throttle down a road once. Almost all stock engined quads dont have the power to fully rev out the last gear so a extra 1000 rpm wont do crap in last gear for top speed at less you have the engine power to fully rev out the last gear and still a extra 1000 rpm only adds a few mph not no 20 and this is fact not my opinion. And you can only gear so tall b4 you cant even pull the last gear.

ok. here's the mods i had when my bike first hit 90. Yosh pipe, 2-3 hp, k and n filter with lid removed, 2-3 hp, jetted, exhaust cam mod, (not sure of the hp gain but has to be about 5-10 hp), gyt-r cdi box, and 15 tooth front sprocket. 39 hp stock...and yes the cdi added top speed...the limiter wouldn't allow to pass 75...then added cdi box and sprocket to other mods and hit 90...those are the facts whether you believe it or not.

i now have 14:1 compression and you can barely ride it. the acceleration has always been great....check out my vid before high compression on youtube...look up "my yfz 450 vs raptor 700r...read the mods on both bikes...i had installed a hotcam on the exhaust side..that's the only mod i did since i was clocked at 90. actually 93.
