Argon will ionize at atmospheric pressure. Large plasma discharges can be drawn at atmospheric pressure in an aquarium full of Argon gas. Try it.

Argon doesnt reduce atmospheric pressure in an open bowl at all. It is less electron-negative than nitrogen or oxigen in the air thus it is more easily ionizable. Very nice btw.

it does reduce pressure because it is flowing with high speed through the tube in the vase and back out but your other remarks are also true
