@ekocentric I know its been a while since you replied (I generally don't reply to these) but yes I didn't mention his son because only one can be best. Earl Warren was a close second if not tied, and the others are debatable.
Edmund G. Pat Brown was one of the first to exploit the use of high profile TV paid Commercials in his election campaign- Thus any of the panel who had visited Hollywood would have certainly been exposed to a miriad of TV spots pushing him as the favorite candidate to vote for -
The 1958 election was a big success for the Democrats. The voters elected Democrat senators from all sorts of normally Republican farm states. Californians elected a Democratic governor, which had been a Republican governorship from 1900 to 1958 with the exception of maybe 3 terms.
California is a melting pot. Pat Brown was born in California, but he replaced a governor born in Provo, Utah and got replaced by another governor born in Dixon, Illinois.
Pat Brown's Son "Junior" did not replace a governor- Junior was legitamately elected , and was voted into office- He was the "next" governor- - You must be very opposed to typing even the name of Ronald Reagan , as that was the Illinois born person you speak of- Funny you did not say that Ronald Reagan "Replaced" Ed Pat Brown Sr. ? - The governor born in Illinois , had been a long time legal resident & citizen of California...and qualified to be a candidate for the office-
@ptvellin This happened to Warren, too, as a Republican Governor. Seems to be a trend in the state.

So, why are blindfolds used here (for someone not yet governor), and not for the well-known governor of Illionois?

Brown was the Attorney General of California and pretty well known on the national level, especially to people in "showbiz"

I'm a native Californian, and Gov. Brown is the first governor I can remember. I'd always wondered why they called him "Pat."
