  • I know this is an old video, but you need to run a light if you want them to produce eggs in the winter..$ hrs before sun up and 4 hrs after sun down will have them laying non stop

  • they are not laying because minimal light in winter.

  • haha ur not gonna have obese rabbits with them chasing each other 24/7

  • Nice Cat in the background at 0:06. I need one of those on my homestead.

  • Chickens require 12+ hours of sunlight to lay eggs. They need artificial light to to extend the apparent daylight period and thus keep them laying eggs in winter, otherwise you will have to wait until spring.

  • They are probably not laying because its winter. They need warmth to lay eggs. Add some heat lamps and a coop:)

  • Water could be an issue now with it freezing so fast but they have'nt been laying since the late fall before it was below freezing

  • If they are not laying, maybe make sure they have enough water. Ours also stopped for about 4-6 weeks but recently we have started to get a few eggs once again. Some of our best layers were going through their moult but are now back to normal...

  • It's been so long since you put out a video that I was beginning to think you were a bumwithajob or something. I miss your input at homestead-acres. Hope to hear from you soon in the forum.

  • @billjacobson1967 I hope things don't get that bad! I also had my computer crash and had to buy a new one, so all my favorites are gone and I havent gotten around to adding all of them back. I have a 1000 excuses...lol but I'm just resting up for a big spring and summer!

  • Hoping that you and your family are all safe in this storm. Here in Maine, so far we have almost a foot and it hasn't stopped yet. I know that NH got hit pretty hard too.

  • My chickens have turned into worthless tools too !

  • I used to have 62 laying hens, purchased all their high protein medicated feed from mills fleet farm but could'nt keep up buying it so went back to just cracked corn. That's when they never gave me another egg. Also you have to supplement the feed with calcium carbonate. I buy "Coastal Shell", comes in a 50# bag. I was told that they won't lay without that stuff. But i don't believe it.

  • @jasonmushersee I've never had a problem for this long before and have had chickens for about 5 years. I give them layer pellets for food all year and only give cracked corn as a treat or filler. Other than that I have never given them anything like a suppliment. I do give them back all the tablescraps including the eggshells. I have already almost doubled the amount of layer pellets I give them per day and I have not seen any evidence of them eating the eggs or anything else eating them.

  • @outofworkbum Do you have any predators nearby? A couple of years ago, a raccoon got into the coop. Thankfully my dog killed the raccoon before it got any hens. It was mid September. They got so spooked that they stopped laying until the next February. I lost about six weeks of eggs.

  • Does the engine have blowby when you unscrew the oil filler cap? That would indicate head gasket., other wise it's another gasket. Some gm v6 engines it's the intake manifold gasket. My car had 2 quarts rain water/ice in the air filter reservoir & that was getting into the blowby outlet that comes into the intake manifold just under the carb.

  • @jasonmushersee I've been losing antifreeze for a while and don't have any real leaks, when I took off the oil fill cap there was an oily green gel sludge on the inside of the cap. There has been no white smoke from the tailpipe. It is a 1999 olds cutlass with the 3.1 v6 and I have done the head gasket and the intake gasket at around 110,000. Its at 168,000 miles now and if I do it I will probly do both and whatever else I can see while its opened up. That mystery oil works for everything!

  • Thanks for a great vid. I subscribe to a number of channels but your videos are the ones that I look forward most to seeing. Don't know what it is but find your voice very calming!

Anyway, look forward to more vids.

  • @eskimolishic thanks, I'll have to let my wife know that someone thinks my voice is calming....haha she'll think you're crazy

  • had a dry spell with my chickens to.only have four hens ..get maybe one or two eggs a week....you have alot few in the freezer would be nice....

  • @pinetar100 We made rooster pot pie and rooster broccolli and ziti, last week, I've never had to eat a hen...lol

  • Have not got any eggs from my hens all winter either. Looks like you put that wood splitter to good use this fall. Nice feeling having a pile of farwood ready to go aint it?

  • @butcherbls Yep got alot there, the splitter works great. That big pile is all green though, be great for next year.

  • Great vid!

  • @gacastillo21 thank you

  • we got ours Sunday nite (6" of snow) and shut north Georgia down for 2 days but walmart did good / the panic cleared out the shelves of bread/ eggs / cheese and pizza's oh yea and milk and the people were rudd and shoving and fighting over food and parking spots

  • @ernest302 I saw that on the news, lol that's alot of snow for you guys down there. The bread, egg, battery thing happens here too, it's amazing that so many people are so un-prepared.

  • The winter has been bad even here in the south Even here in the mountains I've not seen it this bad.Sound's Like the coolant has damaged ether your crank / mains or a piston rod.or the whole bottom end.Good luck.I would be afraid to recommend anything the way gas keeps going up Thanks for sharing. Tec

  • @tectalabyss I ran some mystery oil through it and let it run for an hr or so and the knock went away. Now do I trade it in fast before it comes back...lol or do the head gasket? Haha I have a buddy that may do it for a 12 pack so maybe I can get 1 more yr out of her.

  • I think they sleep in the dog houses, but as soon as I go out there they start running around so I'm not really sure, the doghouses are burried about 6 inches and filled with straw. they also took alot of the straw out and made nests behind the doghouses. Also the back half of the setup is covered from rain and snow. They don't dig under the walls because the bottom of that whole area has an old chainlink fence under all that straw.

  • Where do the rabbits sleep? Also, they don't try to dig out from under the barriers?
