Yeah, when you have a noise like that it's probably a fan. At least you hope it is, otherwise it would be the hard drive and that's a lot more expensive to fix!
We build our computers as a rule. We can identify these problems without any trouble.
It sounded like a fan was hitting something, perhaps a stray cable. You could have fixed it yourself using one of those automotive wire ties, probably. XD
lol, you probably could have figured that out. Well, maybe not... Either way, you got it fixed. Yay, you. It did lose a little of that tough sound though, but for computers that doesn't fit well. Maybe you can save the fan and sell it on e-bay as a tough macho guy fan for the computer... Yeah, maybe not.
Always good to keep a geek chained up in the basement, they can be quite handy, especially when setting up a new wireless network or just troubleshooting regular diagnostic issues essential in the maintenance of your equipment.
Usually best a have a gimp too, to keep them company....
papa - when I had my computer business - that was the sound of money :) I would have had it going in the same day though.
e machines has been notorious for decades of making shoddy equipment. Back in '95 they had a barbie machine that tended to have its' power supply ignite into flames across the back of your wall. Rather disconcerting for some.
Heard of Steam Radio but haven't heard a sewing machine computer before.
I suspect the eMachines people say it has to go back to everyone and didn't record the problem properly so the guy at the other end tuurns it on - it works and sends it back.
Darn vid won't play past :30 for me but it doesn't matter cause I know you;re back! YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You've been missed, Papa...here and on blog. :-)
I had that problem as well. So I called the store, who sold me it. The first thing he asked me was 'have you opened your computer?', and I was like 'yes, of course' and he was 'cool, and where does the noise come from?'. I said, 'I think it is my motherboard fan', he said 'no, more like your graphic cards fan, here is what you do, alright, you have fixed computers before, yes, so you take out the fan of the graphics card, and then on the backside, you put in some wax, and let it stay' ->
@atomicnumber86 'and then wait for a few minutes'.. 'it is because the fan is spinning uneven, this helps out.. but if you still have problems, all you need to do is send it to us, just pay the shipping' ... I was like waahh.. Wait, you don't more of my money, you told me how to fix it? For free.. But glad to see you are back, mamawolf, I mean papafox :P
I had the opposite experience. I had a problem with my computer so I took it to the Geek Squad (or as I call them now the Nerd Herd). 300$ and 3 days later I got it back and had the same problem I had before. I then took it to some small local spot called "Print-On". They fixed it in 2 hours for 30 bucks. Grumble, grumble indeed.

Glad you had that fan fixed. Mine never made a peep when it went, but the loud capgun pops of the capacitors exploding on my video card sure did.
