  • I first heard this song many many years ago when i lived in the pensacola florida area. Each weekend I would tape Fiona Ritchies thistle and shamrock broad casting from the university in pensacola.Over the years after repeated listening I taught my self celtic finger style guitar and developed a greater understanding of celtic ballads and composition.I have written several celtic finger style compositions for guitar,A mornings ride, the yellow brick jig,and mcguires whistleing hornpipe

  • ye robert burns wrote it,lovely stuff!

  • Love this song!!

  • CGCGCD# Capo 5 for anyone looking for the guitar tuning :D

  • what a voice dougie has one of a kind magic

  • Love Dougie MacLean, and love Robert Tannahill: what a combination! A good place for Tannahill info can be found online if you look up the Robert Tannahill Federation. Lots of lyrics and everything there. Ah, now to find more Doogie! :-)

  • Lyric is by Robert Tannahill but melody written (or written down from an old air) by Alexander Campbell and known as "Lord Balgonie's favourite". Writers often composed a new lyric for old songs in the 19th century and earlier. Burns never composed a tune to my knowledge for example.

  • Not by Burns but Robert Tannahill of Paisley.

He wrote some bonny songs too

  • It's a a lovely old folk song in Scots, the lowland dialect we can understand (as opposed to the Gaelic, another language). I think the lyrics were written by Robert Burns. One of my favorites.

  • Dougies best song, stole the chord sequence from the piano theme song though, but beautiful guitar and lyrics.

  • @kiikiu I think it might be the other way around. I think this is an old song.

  • @kiikiu No he didn't, the composer of the music for the movie cam across the tune and used it for his puposes. It's by Robert Tannahill. ;-)

  • I've never heard this one...its excellent! Love it!

  • Oh, I love this!

  • Beautiful son with superb part of guitar .

    In my "Favoris" *****. J.C.
