  • Damn pterodactyls are the reason we don't have trans-Atlantic zeppelins anymore.

  • Great stuff! Have you seen "J-Men Forever"?

  • is that an electrical post at 3:56

  • @AgentKittyKatswell It does look like an telephone pole, but I think it's supposed to be a tree. The clip is taken from "The Lost World" and there are scenes where the heroes climb up to that spot and get across a gorge by knocking over the tree and using it as a bridge. (Or one of the dinosaurs knocks over the tree, I can't remember.) You can see the pterodactyl close-up next to that tree trunk around 4:20

  • is there a full movie of this one??

  • @AgentKittyKatswell Sorry, no, this is just a short mashup clip. There was no movie made, although I'm working on some crocheted biplanes and zeppelins as props for music videos, Zeppelin vs. Pterodactyls: The Musical. (Original songs, not "Give Me A Wing and a Song" that Ace Drummond sings in this clip.)

  • been dazed and confused

  • That isn't even remotely what the inside of a Zeppelin looks like. Zeppelins resemble ocean liners or small hotels with a bit of luxury railroad thrown in, not a shitty little airplane cabins with tiny windows. Which is probably what that footage is from.

  • The name of airship is "Potrzebie" which in Polish means " in need". Awesome oldschool SF though

  • Can I buy the full length feature anywhere?

  • @101Anakin1 I'm glad you like it, but it's a fake mashup. You can buy or download the full length serials of Dick Tracy and Ace Drummond and other movies that I used to make this.

  • You've made me happy.

  • This is one of the best things I have ever seen on Youtube. thank you for posting this.

  • SO which serial is the air battle originally from..? That's awesome stuff

  • @docredfield The air battle between flying wing and zeppelin are from Dick Tracy, but with clips from other movies (Ace Drummond?) to make it look like several biplanes are detaching from the zep. Click on the text description of this video for a link to the full list of source movies used in this mashup.

  • Final score: pterodactyls 1, zeppelin 0. Yeah! Go pterodactyls!

When I use DNA to recreate 100 million pterodactyls including giant Quetzalcoatlus, modified to eat people, life will be a whole lot more fun for everybody. I'll train them to drop boulders on cars and use their long beaks to nibble on the corpses of the occupants.

Humans will scurry like rats from cover to cover under a sky dark with hungry pterosaurs.

  • planet bur was good, 20.000 bc with raquel welch has some excellent pterodon scenes by ray harryhausen too.

  • Is it wrong for me to mention that this is phoney? Clever, but phoney.

  • "We're having a lovely time, wish you were here".

  • This is NOT a Hammer Film.

  • @TheRebel2007 Your reading comprehension skills ARE adequate. It's not a Republic Serial either. Where did you get the impression that this was a Hammer Film? I thought the video description made it clear.

  • @deidzoeb I had seen on some website - I don't remember which - a poster or comic book cover that Hammer Films had commissioned that showed a zeppelin and several bi-planes battleing pterotacyls, the working title of this never produced movie was "Zeppelin v. pterodactyls" with the blurb "This is a Hammer Film."

I thought maybe you had seen such poster?

  • @TheRebel2007 Yes, that's the poster that inspired me to make this mashup. I forgot that it said "This is a Hammer film" right in the corner of it. I thought you were sincerely angry because you expected this video to be a Hammer Film. Sorry.

  • @deidzoeb :)

  • 5:47, really impressive effects.

  • This is more realistic then the 1975 movie The Land That Time Forgot

  • The 1977 sequel People That Time Forgot shows an air battle of a pterodactyl chomping at a biplane. Kind of cool, but not realistic. The best part of Land That Time Forgot is the stuff on the sub before they get to the stupid prehistoric island. They should have made a whole movie about that and skipped the dinosaurs.

  • Fantastic blending of footage! Well done!

  • Big John, get the Pandora out of here!

  • If that guy tried singing like that on a flight in today's day and age, he'd be wrestled to the floor by an Air Marshal and tazed into unconsciousness.

  • Wish I had a pterodactyl

  • @JRBeaman .........Try marrying an old Dragon then ! LOL

  • @JRBeaman man that would be soooo awesome.

  • @Thescarydutchman Yeah, tough pet to feed.

We could start with the members of Congress.

And terrorists, the illegals. We could build free Zeppelin rides for them and toss them out for the pet pterodactyl as lunches. Hey, maybe it would not be that difficult after all.

  • @JRBeaman yeah i heard pterodactyles mostly preyed on fish, and the whole finicial sector smells fishy to me so i guess there's lots to feed em there

  • I wish I had my own Zeppelin..

  • so do I.

  • Brilliant, love it. Would almost work as a real film just needs some Barrymore maybe?

  • @totenkray Michael Barrymore ?

  • Really, a single Wilhelm Scream would have been sufficient. No need to pile on.

  • True dat. I thought it would be cute to have the pig scream when he gets pecked by the pterodactyl (pteranodon actually?) but two is too much.

  • holly s^&*t I didn't know hydrogen didn't explode!!!!!

  • Somewhat bizarre but entertaining copy-and-paste job. "The Airship Potrzebie" -- nice homage to Mad magazine.

Of course, the opening titles are a dead giveaway that it's a put-on. You used Palatino (or its Microsoft clone Book Antiqua), a typeface designed in 1948 and not in common use until the mid-1950s.

BTW, the kid's exclamation of "Mammy!" is apparently a reference to Al Jolson.

  • Thanks, scotpens. There are other giveaways that it's a hoax, like Terence Stamp listed in the end credits. (He would have been six years old in 1936, I think.)

  • CAPTAIN NEMO!

  • thanks for the vids bro

any chance of getting Willoughby's Magic Hat up here on the tube?

    Thanks again

  • I second the request for "Willoughby's..."

  • Most amusing, tapered one. You pay check?

  • "Most amusing, tapered one. You pay check?" Googling this phrase, I found one reference to quote being from "early Zippy comics." Could you please explain?

  • I got to do number 2 :0 i think i have pterodactyls

  • THIS CONTAINS: bullshit Hollywood 'matinee' actors, mismatched stock footage of actual ariel flight/parachuting, poor-quality rear-projection of pilots, and stop-motion footage clips from 1925 silent WILLIS O'BRIEN dino-flick: 'THE LOST WORLD'!---not boring...ENTERTAINING!

  • Great video, Zeppelins, monoplanes & fliying dinasours as well. They do not adventure serials like they used to. Also the great classic cast is also an excellent plus.

  • OH MY GOD! IT'S A FUCKING PTERODACTYL!

  • Looks like the 'dactyl won.

  • LOL, the pterodactylus' attack in 4:04 is taken from 1961 russian sci-fi Planet of the Storms.

  • Hi, Stooovie. Technically you're right. Parts of that Russian film were re-used in later films. The version I took it from was titled "Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet" (1965).

For a list of all the films I used, click on "About This Video" and look for the links.

  • Yes, that`s the reedited american version of "Planeta Bur" (Planet of the storms) with added footage of american actors. Cool work!

  • Come on, though, wouldn't Terrance Stamp make a cool Captain Nemo?

  • awesome, but whats all this bull about terrance stamp being in it? he looks about 30 in this, so that would make him about 100 now....that i doubt.

  • I wanted to fool some people into believing that it was really made in 1936, but I wanted to drop a few hints and inside jokes so people could tell it wasn't made in the 30s. One clue is that Terence Stamp wasn't even born by 1936, and another is the "Wilhelm Scream" which wasn't recorded until 195X-something.

  • Damn! That is sweet shit. God bless whoever made it back in the day. And god bless y'all for uploading it!

  • I love the early movies. I've given you five stars, please check out my silent movie memorabilia vids (includes Noah Beery)

    when you have time.

  • Potrzebie!

  • Peterodactyls R kewl!

  • Who needs snakes on a plane?

  • You had me 3/4s convinced for about half of it... and then really depressed that it wasn't real and I wouldn't be watching two hours of it. Congratulations.

  • Wonderful sequence, diedzoeb! After reading about the original Hammer proposal recently (I think on Jess Nevin's livejournal Slouching Towards Bethlehem) and his suggestion that the Conran bros. should make it, I never imagined that someone would put together something like this. Nice to see the clips from the original Willis O'Brien stop motion animation from "The Lost World".

Does need more pterodactyls, tho! ;)

    Stu

  • I am so looking forward next episode .... Fur Pirates ... great .... :D

  • I wasn't really planning to make another episode. Just wanted it to look like one of those old serials. "The Fur Pirates" was the title of Dick Tracy, Chapter 3. However, I'm looking for clips to put together a Zep vs Pterodactyls cartoon from Max Fleischer Superman and a few goofy sources. (Lots of Nazi plane and sub action in those 40s Superman cartoons.) I can't stop beating a dead meme.

  • fewer planes more pterodactyls!

  • That flying wing footage is from an old Dick Tracy episode, is it not? I saw it on some obscure rerun channel a few weeks ago.

  • Yep, the flying wing and some of the zeppelin shots are from Dick Tracy. See link in the description above for all the different movies I pulled clips from.

  • Terence Stamp and Bela Lugosi in one movie together! Dreams really do come true!

  • Lool.... the sequel is called the Fur Pirates!

    Pure awesome!

  • I think it needs more pterodactyl.

  • I was trying to limit myself to public domain movies, and the only pterodactyls I could find were 20 or 30 seconds from The Lost World and Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet. Unfortunately the only shot of pterodactyl attacking shows the bubble of a flying car, looks like a landspeeder.

  • I .... I don't know what to say right now. 5* and trauma? Hope you are both well. Great work Rob. ~peace

  • Mammy! Thats why I dont ride Zeppelins. lol. That was great man. I dig this old weird stuff. Have a great week. Peace!

  • Led Zeppelin vs Pderodactyls would have been better.

  • That's how they lost one of their drummers. Pterodactyls 1, Led Zepplin 0. Or was that Spinal Tap?

  • There are eagles everwhere these days on YT. Too funny. 5
