Too bad that a single missle dropped by an aircraft could easily destroy the thing, or at least track it so that soldiers could just climb abord and kill the crew. Hell, they could probably climb through the barrel if it wasn't ready to fire. That, and it's quite difficult to hide.
@xCh34pShOtx k i need to point out that the king tiger was a waste but the Tiger 1 was the smartest thing germany has ever came up with if they had the atleast one year earlier they would have one the war in russia
@PIRATE99A Uh...no. Even Hitlers generals were telling him to stop wasting resources on bullshit like the Tiger I and II. Those resources could have gone to the Panther, which was enough to destroy any allied armor. Hell, even the Panzer IV was better than most British and American tanks. the Tiger I was just over kill....
germans have the smallest penises in the western world on average, they always have to compensate through their feats of engineering through the decades :)
it would have been such an easy slow target for planes. besides germany was using poor quality metals in their tiger 2s towards the end of the war, so they certainly didnt have the materials to try such a costly experiment. the germans are known for inventing some pretty weird stuff in wartime tho
this is when german development staff started drinking absinthe close to the end of the war. This machine would be totaly useless as it would be destroyed from air first thing. It could be prehaps used as a psychological weapon if you are planing to siege a city or something.
@Ouija121085 Destroyed from the air?....by what? What do you think the top of that turret was made of...cardboard? Your observation would be that much more applicable to coastal artillery and it most likely was designed to be a mobile coastal artillery piece for use against capital ships. A German Panzer could knock the crap out of an RN destroyer ...but something larger and with greater range? That's where this one would come in because it is mobile and less easy to hit than a stationary rifle.
@dasUBootVII do you know what kind of damage even a kinetic ordinance does when dropped from a high altitude? even if you drop a non exposive ordinance from a bombers altitude it would penetrate even the most modern tanks even this tank. I wont even talk about 250kg or 500kg bombs which would demolish this thing in million pieces.
@Ouija121085 Yes, none....from an altitude of 40,000 feet (far higher than any allied bomber could have climbed) a bomb could only have achieved a speed of impact of 1600 fps WITHOUT taking air resistance into account. Artillery projectiles have much greater muzzle velocities and many of them bounced harmlessly off of German tank turrets. Ever stop to consider how difficult it is to hit a moving target from a bomber even at 15,000? That tank is not going to just sit there and wait to get hit.
@dasUBootVII This thing if it was ever concieved to be real could be used as a self propelled altirelly, questions are posed on its reliability, how fast is it? what happends when it breaks down? so this was only wild imagianations of most crazed nazis and nothing more. This would never work. Simply because its too big, massive target and would be attacked first.
@Ouija121085 What would happen if it broke down? First echelon maintenance, that is what....common to any battlefield in any war. I would safely venture that it was intended to be used as a mobile coastal artillery piece and, used as such, could have chowdered the bejesus out of any battlewagon that the U.S. or Britain had afloat. You think the Germans are the only ones in the war that suffered mechanical breakdowns or didn't know what to do about them? You've been watching too much Frank Capra
If this tank had been really built, it would have needed an army of technicians, including its own firebrigade plus another whole army of accompanying infantry. The Kingtiger and Panther had technical flaws that made them not as reliable as the American Shermans. On a good day, the Shermans were cannonfodder for the German heavies. On a bad day, dozens of Shermans would simply roll past unopposed because the German heavy tanks were undergoing servicing and repairs.
My theory is that by the end of 1944 the German army and airforce design departments knew that their work was futile and in this case, hopelessly impractical. However if they stopped coming up with ideas they would get drafted to the front
In theory it was ridiculous, what could possibly keep that from sinking into the ground? There wouldn't be enough fuel to power it over optimal terrain, not to mention the engine would need be comparible with an aircraft carriers engine. Cool to look at but it's not worth it. The ratte was an impossible dream to acquire.
@joedan44 Actually.... the ground pressure level was designed to be slightly less the the Tiger tank and it was to be powered by diesel submarine engines. Yes it was an impossible dream and would have been nothing more than target practice for air power.
@navyfieldperson go ahead get them to put that tank on i would laugh at you if you owned this because all i have to do is drive up beside you and stay there you wont be able to do anything to me... you try to crush me this thing cant even turn very fast yet alone move very fast at all so basicly as soon as all 15 of us are beside you, your fucked

@Plexpara =.= who said it's not easy. Think of a target well let's say your butt (no offense) that is jiggling off from different sizes. One is small and the other is big. Superiority is not the size but the man itself. Well yes it got some tough armor but still not tough for an air strike. If you have a bigger ship to pilot for you just look like a big target saying "SHOOT ME!" as you move like big fat cat hissing. Well it all depends on the man who is piloting them. The end xD
you know what? i was just thinking the same when i read your post (scoffing at me). i was talking ironically about a fictional tank from a fictional game and ... wait a minute. why am i explaining this? you obiviously are too dull & simple to understand irony anyway. or to use your words: retard.

the first tanks were development in russia, not in germany. and the first rockets were development in russia too. look at wikipedia!
71renman 3 months ago
@71renman but the first missiles were developped by china, and the idea of tanks was invented by leonardo da vinci.

Do you think the Ratte is really a "great invention"?
sewagii 3 months ago
Good thing is, if the Ratte was made, it couldnt move from wherever it was created.

As awesome as this tank would be, it would be easy prey for an air force that had already won superiority. ;P
TheBrendonovan 3 months ago
@TheBrendonovan
thats not true.
a tank like that got a amor like that.
just look at the big fat warships.it was not easy for the airforce to kill them.
Plexpara 3 months ago
@Plexpara the armour couldn't be that big... remember this thing has to support its own weight and move around.
anyway its so big and slow, and lacking in AA defense, that you could send in loads of airstrikes against it.
The1andOnlyCG 3 months ago
@Plexpara
The goal is not to kill the rat but not put them out of combat.
If a chain is broken you can not even fix up the chain,i think you need some days.
And chains are very weak points and particularly weak against explosion.
sewagii 3 months ago
@sewagii
you cannot even fix a broken chain on any tank.
Plexpara 3 months ago
@Plexpara =.= who said it's not easy. Think of a target well let's say your butt (no offense) that is jiggling off from different sizes. One is small and the other is big. Superiority is not the size but the man itself. Well yes it got some tough armor but still not tough for an air strike. If you have a bigger ship to pilot for you just look like a big target saying "SHOOT ME!" as you move like big fat cat hissing. Well it all depends on the man who is piloting them. The end xD

this ain't a german tank. it is the soviet russian mammoth tank - as we know from c&c red alert.

@ConCon19143
you know what? i was just thinking the same when i read your post (scoffing at me). i was talking ironically about a fictional tank from a fictional game and ... wait a minute. why am i explaining this? you obiviously are too dull & simple to understand irony anyway. or to use your words: retard.
=)

@Holowachuk Clearly you know nothing of history..
ConCon19143 3 months ago
we all know what happens to a tank when it turns submarine.....
Driver: Were stuck.
Gunner: What do you mean were stuck.
Driver: were stuck and cant move.
Gunner: i don't get how we got stuck.
Driver: we at the bottom of a river that's why.
Gunner: Your and idiot.
Driver: Not my fault we weigh 1,000 tons.
Gunner: We should kill Hitler if we ever get out of the river.

bad design. too big, slow, huge target. easy to target for long-range artillery or air support.
or you could just walk up to it with a team of soldiers, climb on, open the hatch and drop grenades inside.
The1andOnlyCG 3 months ago
@The1andOnlyCG Not if its supported by a panzer batlallion. This thing would've fucked up anything it came across.
ConCon19143 3 months ago
@ConCon19143
airstrike... this thing is a sitting duck for either dive-bombers or high-altitude carpet bombers.
The1andOnlyCG 3 months ago
@The1andOnlyCG on its own yes but with fighter and infentry support it would F@@k up
africankiwi1 3 months ago
@The1andOnlyCG Lmfao not really. If its built like that, Its gonna be protected from everything. And besides, Its not exactly a sitting duck..
