@kaido305 It's not the pet sematary itself, it's the Micmac Indian burial ground located beyond. The reason is because the ground has gone "sour" and is haunted by evil demonic spirits who possess any body buried there. Well, that's the film's explanation. In the book, the reason is the Wendigo, the evil spirit of the north woods, which poisoned the ground and uses any body buried there for its own sinister purposes.
