As far as Limp Bizkit being included on any best of list whatsoever... no. Just no. They are one of the most annoying bands in history. Fred Durst writes lyrics as if he were the Incredible Hulk on Viagra. And his vocals are whiney and terrible. Is it because they are a "rap rock" band. No. That has nothing to do with it. Sigh. How completely typical. Nirvana? Number 1? Probably one of the most overrated rock bands. Are they terrible? No. But do they deserve to be hailed as rock gods? HELL no. Granted, they were PART of the group of bands that put an end to the idiotic hair metal bands of the 80's, but they were BY FAR NOT the most talented. Popularity does not equal talent. If it did, then the likes of Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Lil Wayne, 'Nsync would be some of the most talented groups/singers in the world

Popularity does not equal talent. They made 3 albums when nobody knew them before everyone knew them with Nevermind. They are on every reputable list of top 100 bands of all time, usually within the top 45, and are voted on by legends in the industry including Bob Dylan, Paul Mccartney, etc...

(continued) New Kids On The Block was left over 80's stuff and didn't define the bulk of the 90's either. Also, neon clothes was a late 80's thing too that carried only into the very early 90's. By 1992/1993 it was out of style. Neon clothes didn't define the 90's.

I say all this because some people either remember the 90's wrong or they are too young to remember the 90's and assume it was something it really wasn't

Some kids today think the 90's are what they see on Saved By The Bell. That was left over 80's stuff that carried into the very early 90's. Saved By The Bell The College Years shows a more accurate description of 90's fashion than the high school episodes. My So Called Life is an example of 90's teen fashion. (Except I didn't know anyone who dressed like the gay guy.) MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice didn't define the 90's either. They defined 1990. That's about it. 1990 was like the late 80's still.

Fred Durst is maybe an asshole but you can't say it's a bad band: Wes Borland is known for his genius guitar riffs, Rivers makes great basslines, Otto has always been a fuckin' good drummer and Durst is simply a good singer makin' some of their songs unique. that's all.

And i am very opened to all kind of rock music (metal, grunge, thrash metal, heavy, nu metal, alterntive metal, punk rock, punk,...) so it's normal that i like LB and Nirvana they're awesome.

I like a few of their songs myself, but those bands put too much emphasis on the whole shock value thing, especially Manson more than any of them and a lot of Slipknot. I really think a lot of the reason they sell a lot of records is because of their presentation and shock value stuff. A lot of the artists on here are 100% music. Very melodic with clear, genius chorus's and verses.

@ToxicityGuitar It's more about how it sounds. Metal sounds more heavy and also includes the casual grunt/rough screams into their songs. You should also consider what the songs are about. Most rocksongs have more 'gentle' lyrics then Slipknot's Wait and Bleed or Psychosocial.

They actually changed the course of mainstream music while many of the others were just a part of the ride. It used to be that all lists ended in Madonna...This is much better.

This didn't gel well with my tastes. 1979 is the one pumpkins song? Because it got the most airplay? It's far from thier best song. The Smashing Pumpkins had the best rock drummer of the 90's hands down, and that's the one song they have where the beat never changes. Chamberlin made the pumpkins sound. Quiet, Cherub Rock, Tonight, Tonight, Bullet with Butterfly Wings, Zero. Any of those are better than 1979.
