  • longest tut ive seen on here, kool very good

  • @Bajekitty Ha...actually I have even longer ones on my channel!

  • @photoshopmama lol kool, I usually only but some very short ones and the ppl are hurrying to finish hehe, id check the rest of ur stuff

  • great tutorial, especially the part about smoothing the edge to change to vector. This help me lots thanks

  • Many thanks, Mana Shan. I started watch your free tutorials since mid 2007. This would be helps so much for my individual study research about raster up sampling process. It seems also works on version CS2. Right?

    You are my idol... :D

  • u sound gay xD no offence

  • none taken but stereotype comments are a bit immature, no offense (:

  • Excellent tutorial.

  • Superb! :)

  • very informative, and you explain it so well!!

    thank you very much!!

  • Please mama, can you do this tutorial video again with another background colour because in many picture the background colours are the same for the skin

    thanx

  • I stress to shoot on solid background if your intention is extraction or for silhouettes. Subjects on complicated backgrounds have to be manually masked, selected, or path outlined with the pen tool. It is time consuming and I get enough slack already for taking too long to show stuff, so to show that in real time would really be long and boring. It can be done, it's just painful and long for 99% of those types of images. You can combine techniques and try some channel masking but it end up long

  • Is it possible to achieve the same by using channel ? I will try. I am also wondering if there is a way to get a silhouette whit this technique when the background is not uniform. I think I have seen a tutorial on this on the Layers Magazine website.

  • that should read "ROTATED" sorry bad typo

    :-)

    rotted, jeez good work donald....

  • Very cool and usefull-now, oh queen of saving time...

I like the photo as a photo but as a silhouette I would like the left arm rotted out from the body so the hand doesnt grow out of the upper arm-also it makes a better graphic statement (the "HUH?" pose) SO do the picture first then make the silhouette OR do it to the silhouette version-the 2nd requires more artistic ability but may be quicker the first you just lasso and rotate- I started with PS 4.0 I do too many things the hard way-

  • Good suggestion about the arm....I'll have to do a vid showing how to implement this on the silhouette shape, after the fact. Thanks!

  • Oh YAY!!! You're a champ lady and we all look up to you-THANKS!!!

  • this is a useful tip. it's a good quick alternative to tracing a figure or an irregular shaped object in Illustrator with the pen tool. thanks for posting this!

  • im kinda sad.

    i have photoshop 7.

    so, i cant do this.

do you think you could make a tutorial for this for photoshop 7?

  • Thanks Mama! I really like the girl 3 silhouette. All blackened out really gets my mind racing Mama!

    Does girl 3 have name?

I gave you a good rating!

  • As a photographer you have increased my skill by leaps and bounds. I can not express my thankfulness enough.

  • Thanks, glad to hear it....while I love teaching and making these vids, I also love making my actions. If you really want to polish off your images, check out the products I sell on my Web site in the Products section.Shameless plug, I know--but we use all of them in our studio and love 'em!

  • this tutorial involves a lot of technique. i really learned a lot on this tutorial alone. thanks mama shan! hope you'll continue doing a great job!

  • Thanks! glad to hear it!

  • Thank you for taking the time to make these, I cannot describe how much I've been relying on your tutorials!

  • Aw thanks I'm glad to hear you're learning some stuff.

  • what about cs2??

  • CS2 does not have the Black & White Adjustment. This was a CS3 & CS4 tutorial. As far as how to create custom patterns, vector shapes & using the Preset Manager, the process is the same

  • Great tutorial, I love your guides.

How did you get it up to 23 minutes long?

Isn't there a limit to video length?

  • I'm a YouTube Partner--so, no---there's no limit.

  • Ooh, that's so cool!

  • Ah, will be looking forward a tutorial on dark red backgrounds (or equivalent).. Thank you Mama! Learned many new things today!

  • You and me both! I love the HD, amazing quality even in full screen!! Remember the ol' days of full screen....yuk not even worth clicking that button but now....It's HD all the way from now on for my YT vids! yeah!

  • Awesome tutorial, I'm going to try this with one of my images! Thank you.

  • Who is the girl in the picture? Shes cute :) (good tutorial by the way)

  • She is Morgan, a local Nashville model

  • Great as always.

  • Thanks! More coming next week!
