You could have built the two legs with stabilizers first, then done the crossbar section, that needs to have the two 90 degrees last. By gluing it last you have the floor to make sure its rights since it can be easily moved around at each end till it's perfect.
Yes, I've seen that done. i don't know exact measurements. Also, walkers work great for what you are referring too. A walker as in the device that elderly people use to assist themselves to get around. You can find them cheap at garage sales and craig's list etc. They are strong, light weight and fold up when you are done.
can you join the product to become a dipping staition where you could do Knee up and v ups....so what I am asking can it be made higher and joined in one piece to become strong enough to hold body weight without moving all over.?
Lengthening the sides to get more height should not be a problem w/ 1 1/2 sch. 40 pvc. You can always widen the base for more stability. These dips are done w/ legs extended out in front of you, heels on the ground. It's more of a modified dip movement.

Schedule 80 is the thicker PVC, but schedule 40 will work just fine.
