  • Anyone else bothered by the massive waste of booze at 1:58?

  • @KrazyKommieKiller I am lol and it makes me extremely thristy XD

  • money and government corruption has destroyed this world. i wanna go back to 1607. a world in which we still and always will believe the world to be flat. no columbus. no north or south america at all who's wth me?

  • @UnlimitedZoro2010 I really hope and pray you are being facetious and not just ignorant.

  • @UnlimitedZoro2010 id hate to burst your bubble but columbus sailed in 1492 well before 1607.

  • i love this v

  • this reminds me somehow of Skyrim

  • Funny how the real Pocahontas was butt ugly.

  • Comment removed

  • @Misfitgraves23 I'm not sure about "butt ugly", but she definitely wasn't the buxom supermodel she was in the movie. Also, I think she was about 8.

  • @majormax13 I believe it was more around 12, but none the less, definitely super young..Aha

  • There seems to be something "Rule Britannia"-ish about the first song... anyone else getting that?

  • @The1andOnlyCG that's the way the Brittish felt. For all the details that Disney got wrong, historically speaking, they got the overall feel of the era DOWN. Also, disney fucking rocks.

  • @spartan231490 yeah but i mean, the song hits the ear similarly to Rule Britannia

there just seems to be a similarity there

  • @The1andOnlyCG Oh, i'd never heard the song. didn't realize you meant musically similar.

  • My college history teacher love this film since it revived Jamestown as founder instead of Plymouth.

  • Test in history class: What year was Jamestown established?

me: IN 1607, WE SAILED THE OPEN SEEEAAASSSS....

  • ...Mel Gibson?

  • @Muppetz540 Yup, he voiced John.

  • Alan Menken brought me here

  • @musicluver4everable, yes, thankyou for pointing out the obvious... btw its rum

  • several things

    1) in the benging , all the couples are kissing each other goodbye

    2) threre is only one guy with a scottish accent

    3) threre is a rat coming on board the same time as Ratcliff

    4) what kind og drink they have on that boat?

  • @Musicluvr4everable The drink is probably grog, a kind of low-alcohol beer.

  • @2wingo Grog is hot rum. Nothing about low-alc...

  • She makes jumping off a waterfall look so easy

  • 1:04-1:07 Christian Bale!!! My favorite actor!!!!

  • 1:18-1:29 Sad thing is, we never found any of that. wa wa waaaaaa :/

  • @odonnell1218 Sad, really, the Spanish ran into the Rich ones lol

  • I bet that wasn't grape juice coming out of that barrell...

  • 1:58 so that's why the rum is gone.

  • When I was younger, I thought it was so cool how Smith would ride the cannon onto the ship while the rest just WALKED on. Now I watch that scene and all I can say is "Well, aren't we SPECIAL?!"

  • "I've seen hundreds of new worlds. What could possibly be different about this one?" Has John Smith been traveling in space?

  • @kipolem53 Theyre called the Caribeanns lol

  • @kipolem53 haha, I always thought he should say something ELSE, instead of "hundreds". Maybe "dozens" or just "many" LOL....

  • @kipolem53 haha, his mission: explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before! : )

  • polish lirycs

  • 1:58 he spilled the rum....

    WHY THE RUM???

  • This song is great. If I was around in 1607 i would sign up for the trip to the new world. :)

  • This song totally saved me on the AP US History Test. :D

"What were the three 'G's' that motivated men to go to the new world?"

  • @LadyKyra7 OMG literally I was asked the SAME question on the us history test yesterday and I sang this to myself. :) I got it right ;)

  • I remember cheering on simba when he fought scar.

I remember booing at Ursela when she took Arieal's voice.

I remember fighting the Huns with Mulan.

I remember the wind through my hair, running by Pocahontas.

I remember being locked in the Beast's castle.

I remember laughing and having fun with Mickey and his friends.

I don't remember watching teen drama on stupid disney channel

Copy and paste this to all your favorite Disney Videos and let's start a revolution

  • Aaaah... nostalgia

  • damn john smith was a hunk

  • the white man brings disease to viginia they call it :(

  • "what could possibly be different about this one" says John Smith

Ahh, John, you underestimate the powers a woman holds over men that love her : )

  • Troll face at 1:08 black haired dude D:

  • The best openning ever.

  • You know you're a Disney kid when this song helps you pass a history test on Jamestown.

  • Comment removed

  • Did any1 else notice that when ratcliff is boarding that a rat does to? Hmmm *hint hint*

  • "Heeey!"

    *glomp*

    "Oof!"

    *splash*

Best part. Except maybe for the gratuitous Algonquian.

  • Pocahontas has unlocked: Eagle's Dive

    Perform 10 Leaps of Faith

  • 1:43 OMG John Smith stole one of Legolas' knives!

  • @MerlinGirl20 Don't worry! Elrond is on the case! 2:03

  • @Bexilulz Hey, he does kinda look like Elrond! ROFL

  • @MerlinGirl20 They are being punished by WASTING ALL OF THE WINE! (Or ale)

  • @Bexilulz lol!

  • my mom thinks i should be studying for my AP us history test, how do i tell her that i am? : ) ill even prove it, 1607 the virginia company sailed for america thumbs up for all the aspects off disney that makes it a classic!!!!!!

  • @RobinHoodinSherwood To bad it was an epic fail :/

  • what if this was a horror song with all blood and killings >:D rawr

  • BAJARGA JARG, BAJARGA JARG VIRGINIA COMPANY!

  • I'm not sure why...but Virginia Company is definetly one of my favourite songs off the soundtrack.

  • @mrsnickjonas12 lol i thought i was the only one :)

  • 1:15 Symbolism, much? LOL

  • @loner1878 hehehe..

I see what they did there.

  • @pijlenboog23 @crossoverkid92 Obviously English, but because the United States, and hence Americans, didn't exist until 1776. America was 'discovered' in 1492 and Jamestown was founded over a century later in 1607.

  • @Asmodeus1389 I think @CrossoverKid92 was referencing the fact that John Smith doesn't have an English accent, even though he's obviously British.

  • Is john supposed to be english or american, I can't tell...

  • @CrossoverKid92 obviously english, since america wasn't 'discovered' yet

  • i always wondered why john smith was the most common name(:

  • The genius man of this movie is Alan Menken. He made the animation alive by his music :)

  • Virginia Company song=the most historically accurate this movie gets. still one of my favorites lmao

  • is it just me or is Thomas' hat the most amusing hat ever

  • who is Thomas kissing? his mom? gosh she seems younger than him =S I at first thought he was kissing his sister and then her husband and kid, but now I'm guessing it's his parents and sister

  • @feltetteluvtomfelton I always thought it was his sister and her family, but on Disney Wiki it says it's his parents and sister. The guy does look like him so it probably is his dad... I think I always thought it was his sister and her husband because I would expect bigger hugs from parents. So I dunno...

  • John Smith has beautiful hair.

  • thank you for uploading the video

  • i learnt in history john smith was supposed to be executed when they got to America because he was a trouble maker on the ship

  • These two songs are so epic when you're doing your history homework.

  • i'm in my teens and i think i've gone back to liking disney films as i don't want to lose my childhood and get old because i'm doing my GCSE's this year

  • 3:58-4:01 I didn't know she was in the NFL!

  • 1:30 The rat boarding the ship the same time as Ratcliffe. Talk about symbolism

  • @Redwallfanatic3 what is so special bout that?

  • @Fackinfine cause this simple reason: a RAT is boarding the ship, while RATcliffe is :3 and epic symbolism as Redwallfanatc3 said love this movie!!!!

  • @akkihanachan1 oooooooohhhhhh i get it pfffehehe x)

  • @Fackinfine heehee yosh~ :3 and i just realized the said the date of the movie in the begining of the song XD after like.... *count on hands a couple times** thousands of times of watching XD learn something everyday

  • @Redwallfanatic3 Exactly what i was thinking omg thank you for other people who caught that! :)

  • @Hechan93 thank you!

  • I like this movie before anyone responds let me say I treat this as historical FICTION and not as an history lesson and that looking back I can see why it is regarded as one of Disney lesser works but still i thought most of the songs were good the acting and characters were good the story was interesting and the animation is great

  • @zombiefan011 Is it really considered one of the lesser works? For what reasons? It's my personal favorite of Disney :(

  • @misha231 mostly because both lead characters of John Smith and Pocahontas are pretty dull there's also the racial, cultural and historical insensitivities but those criticisms have been done to death so I won't go into much detail about that

  • @zombiefan011 You'll need to explain the culteral insensitivities since I thought they were paying very good homage to the old way of the Native Indian's lives before the Europeans came along. I adored this movie as a child, I still adore it and have been trying to hunt the dvd down for my son. To take it too literal detracts from the story beneath, that the world is filled with marvel and wonder. Greed and hatred for surface reasons must NOT mar this.

  • @Musemistress the ways of the natives are only vaguely explained and no mention is made of the settlers trying to convert the natives to Christianity as for historical inaccuracy John Smith was a short, portly, redhead and not the tall, golden haired adonis we see here he and Pocahontas probably weren't lovers as he failed to mention the affair until many, many years after it supposedly happened also Pocahontas was 12 at the time so if it did happen EWWW!!!

  • @zombiefan011 I would never have expected the cartoon movie to be literal in historical fact. Romance, heroines and heroes sell. Obscure nuances into a historical event with the then social norms (12 year olds were considered old enough to marry) would fly over childrens' heads and confuse them. The simple story of prejudice and surface hate were the things that made the story understandable. This inspired me to find the true story when I got old enough to fully appreciate and understand it.

  • @zombiefan011 thank you wikipedia ;)

  • @zombiefan011 i would just love to bring fat, short, redheadde and scruffy bearded old John Smith of reality back to life JUST to show him this one scene and see him die again of flattery upon seeing this portrayal of him. the man was known for shall we say "story telling" and this is probably how he viewed or wanted to view himself. XD

  • why did you cut out the storm ?

  • Comment removed

  • This movie makes me proud to be canadian. I might even move to B.C. next year.

  • I miss old Disney, Pocahontas was my one of my favorite princesses.

  • critter country would be the perfect place for Pocahontas to live at disneyland

  • Ugh this is a travesty. John Smith was a prick in real life, and Pochahontas was like 10.

  • @MajBlood

Well you can't really tell the kiddies the true story can you.

Besides, she got with another guy in the second movie, so all is well.

  • @wierdsquirrelgirl Lol I suppose. I don't usually mind some historical liberties in movies but Pocahontas takes it to a whole different level.

  • @MajBlood

Ya just got to except that it is a very, very bastardized version of the real story, pat it on it's mutated little head, tell it it's all right for being different, and move on with life.

  • @MajBlood O, yay, you used travesty right! :D One of my pet peeves.

  • @MajBlood Well no one ever said this movie was historically educational XD But still, it is a great movie despite the fact that it completely ignores pretty much all of the true history of Pocahontas and company

  • I love watching Disney movies when I'm older and realizing who all the famous people are who do the voices. Mel Gibson and Christian Bale! That's crazy!

  • i like how they sing about their upcoming slaughters

  • Wait....i dont think the union jack was the flag of England during 1607

i think it was later they used that falg

  • @CM99501

There have been several variations of the union jack, and the one in the film is actually correct for 1607.

  • memories :D

  • 0:37

Did anyone else see Lon kissing his wife??? (Extreme left)

  • @solbalesta I seen it! Wow!!!!!

  • @solbalesta dun u mean his mom? she is old enough to be his mom man...

  • @solbalesta

    yep.

good set of eyes you got there.

  • The thing with this movie is that it is better then Camerons Avatar. The natives are just as racist as the settlers. Both sides have good reasons to go to blows, and their spiritual lives haven't been used to turn them into a tribe of hats.

  • this song is my guilty pleasure (: one of my favorite movies ever :D

  • Indian: Wow! my conch shell is oddly melodic today.....

  • Mel Gibson AND Christian Bale?!?! No wonder this was my favorite movie growing up... :)

  • I didn't realize Mel Gibson played John Smith until now, and I love it so much more now :)

  • Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz are a good team

  • thomas is quite cute.

  • Gotta love the tackling at 3:58.

  • Steady as the beating drum is simply one of the most inspiring songs I've ever heard. There's few things that can raise my spirits better than this.

  • I don't see any,

  • AVATAR is clearly a rip-off of POCAHONTAS. If pocahontas has POCAHONTAS, then avatar has NEYTIRI. If pocahontas has JOHN SMITH, then avatar has JAKE SULLY. If pocahontas has AMERICA, then avatar has PANDORRA. If pocahontas has GRANDMOTHER WILLOW, then avatar has THE TREE OF SOULS. If pocahontas has GOVERNOR RATCLIFFE, then avatar has COLONEL QUARITCH. If pocahontas has CHIEF POWHATAN, then avatar has EYTUCAN. If pocahontas has INDIANS, then avatar has NA'VIS.

    See any differences?

  • @faninnarnia Pocahontas is by no means original itself. The "noble savage" narrative has been around since Gid knows when. Most definitely the Romantics in the Victorian era made it popular. It came into use in film in the late 20th century, after culture finally deemed the classic Cowboy and Indian narrative innapropriate and racist. It's still rather problematc though...

  • @faninnarnia they are blue and the indians are copper skinned =DD

  • @TheFirebender95 Ikr? hahahahahahhahahahaha! Avatar has no originality

  • @faninnarnia lmao yeah but it wasa good movie in my opinion =) and i didnt really like the second pocahontas XD

  • @faninnarnia James Cameron wrote the script in 94, but was working on Titanic at the time, so he wanted to pick it up when Titanic was finished, but when that happened he decided that the technology weren't able to do the story justice, so he saved the script ^^

  • Best part of the movie: Girl knocking guy into water! So sweet and funny at the same time!

  • Who is talking as John Smith's friends??? And John Smith???

  • @TheFuamus John Smith is Mel Gibson and Thomas Delaney is Christian Bale

  • Holy shit i loved this movie soooo much when i was young i swear to god i would watch it like 4 times a day sometimes when i was 4. SUCH A GOOD MOVIE!!!

  • The dick reference at 0:15 cracks me up every time

  • @loner1878

    Whoops its at 1:15

  • OMG! Has anyone else noticed Lon and his wife kissing in the left hand corner at 0:37? I never noticed that before! :O

  • I love the transition part where the beating drums came in and the fog then the title "Pocahontas" appeared.

  • Hold on--Carl Binder was one of the writers for this?!?! The same Carl Binder who wrote for Stargate? :O

  • Is it just me, or does Thomas look like Dimitri from Anastasia?

  • Omg Hechan Thanks So Much For Putting Up This Song Its My Life

  • @Sims2MovieChannel1 You're welcome ^^, I'm glad you like it!

  • OMFG, I just remembered that John Smith was played by Mel-freakin'-Gibson! 8O Wow. So basically, this is the only role I like him in. Lol.

  • steady as the beating drum is the best song of the movie

  • @raychamp01 Absolutely agree!!

  • Of all the post-Howard Ashman Disney songs, the ones on this film are the best thanks to Schwartz.

  • What could possibly be different about this new world....... My my Smith. Much you have yet to learn.

  • the best part of the film is with the native americans

  • Christian Bale!!! I love Thomas :)

  • 2:00 is that the cartoon Bill murray with a mullet? XD

  • @Medusa0999 AHHAHAHA that's freaking hilarious! i never noticed

  • freaking amazing opening transition from the boat to virginia.

  • If I ever became a teacher, I would use this movie for teaching kids about the colonization of the Americas! And a reminder of when Disney used to be amazing!

  • @ztslovebird Please do so. It is an important subject. Did you know this Disney was very criticized in the US? It had really bad box office entries too... : (

  • @ztslovebird but this movie got everything WRONG! lol

  • @1Skyheart Not entirely. They have the basics; the three major reasons why the Americas were colonized (Glory, God, and Gold), how the natives reacted to the pillaging of their land, and Pocahontas's role in establishing more comforable relations between the natives and the first colonists in Virginia. And they introduced John Rolfe in the second movie, so it all kind of panned out in the end.

  • @1Skyheart i think if they would've went completely with the true story of what happened it wouldn't be interesting for the little kids... plus it's based on a true story just like the movie Balto... the base of it is true but we all know dogs can't talk and i'm pretty sure his best friend wasn't a goose...

  • THIS is the Disney I grew up with! Why did you have to go and change? Get back into your roots and make more movies like this with great music and love and life lessons! These were the movies that got me through my childhood! I'm 18 now and as good as the Disney I know now is good, Disney was also THIS good! Just once I'd like to see Lion King shown on Disney Channel!

  • FACT: The real John Smith looked more like the red-haired guy at 1:08-1:12 xD

  • i've always loved native american chants, and steady as the beating drum isn't any different:)

  • I think my mind just took a trip to the Gutter; did they say "A nugget for my WILLY" or "A nugget for my LILY"?

  • @ztslovebird A nugget for my Winnie, actually.
