Reminds me of the Late Cheryl Shaw; she was a phenomenal vocalist. She had the most beautiful I've ever heard, outside of Chaka Khan. I miss her dearly (*tears*)
Glad I found this page. This song is so soulful and musical. To me, Chaka Khan from the standpoint of musicality, vocal range and artistry is the best female vocalist since the 1970's. I love Aretha (I'm from Detroit), but Chaka as a singer can tackle any genre (rock, jazz, pop) and give value-added to songs. Her album Classikhan is brilliant! Her covers of "Little Wing" and "Castles Made of Sand" would have made Jimi Hendrix smile ear to ear. And she hang with Stanley Clarke, Miles Davis etc.
@Nanadsyl Yes!, so true ... I was told I was the bomb in the physical and vocal ... I did not see it then, but now I do, I'm 52 and everything I can to at least bring back some youth!!! <3

I don't think you can compare Aretha Franklin and Chaka Khan because their styles are so different. Anyway, where did this thing come from where people can't appreciate two artists without deciding one has to be indisputably better than the other, as if they can't co-exist?

@Blkserpent1 This...is a bit much. You're entitled to your opinion, and I love Chaka's music as much as the next dude, but disrespecting Aretha is completely uncalled for.
It's definitely amazing how good music paired with talented artists' stay around forever & ever. This is a prime example of the very best to ever grace the music industry. This song and Some love,Destiny, love this sound.would play this stuff in my younger days.My brothers said I influenced them when it came to funk cos they had to listen and they still listening to it today, then I've done well. And so the music lives on in the nxt generation.Love you my bros.XXXXXXX
good peple, who really gives a ..., care who the first female lead singer for the group was. this lady took them away to where they are always going to be remembered. recognize and, appreciate you got to be alive to tell your kids about it.
Ignore him,he know damn well this broad don't look like a damn Pakistani,i have Native-American blood too but i still don't consider myself mixed..Chaka is the definition of true African beauty.
Once again, have to say, what in helol is the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame waiting for?? Can't believe this band is not in!! And...after all that Chaka has done as a solo artist, she definitely belongs in Hall as a solo artist!!!
Rufus and Chaka Khan made fantastic music, had real musicians, great singers, and of course, Chaka, with that amazing voice singing lead!!!
Its a shame we all must grow old. We were all graced once by a sultry young woman with a voice and a body that could make you cry. Chaka Khan is a once in a lifetime talent. Period.
Chaka Khan is in a class all by herself. Greatness can never be imitated or replaced. It's here to stay forever. Real talent has no competitors. You might find some with similarities but, never of the same caliber. Chaka's music will be picked 20/30 years from now. Today's singers will be forgotten as radio stations stop playing their songs. Thank God for good ole talent.

@Dyamanti22 Her 1st husband was East Indian; so she kept the name Khan after the divorce.

Period.
binkavent 1 year ago
Chaka Khan is in a class all by herself. Greatness can never be imitated or replaced. It's here to stay forever. Real talent has no competitors. You might find some with similarities but, never of the same caliber. Chaka's music will be picked 20/30 years from now. Today's singers will be forgotten as radio stations stop playing their songs. Thank God for good ole talent.
