• this song is the reason i have kids ;(

  • My uncle is the talented song writer of this song STAY.

  • Wow I bought this Album when it first came out. I still have it, and must have played it a billion times! Brings back a ton of memories.

  • This song is one of the reasons I say Chaka is one of the baddest vocalist EVER!!!...#THATISALL

  • " you can fix....but you can't MAKE it work,...where there's pain there's GOT be hurt, and the green grass...grows from the dirt..thats a fact of life...alright..." SING IT TO US CHAKA !

  • @TIGGYY1 right here...stay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Chaka is Queen

  • HANG AROUND A BIT LONGER POOH....PLZ.....

  • the number female singer of my time hands down

  • Chaka is so amazing!! I just love the way she sings. No other singer can sing like Chaka! She is the best from the 70's to the present! Keep singing Chaka!!!

  • I love this song and Errakya Badus version also!!!!

  • my number one album by this group.

  • this song is so good

    chaka's vocals soooo sweet,what range

    i almost want to WEEP!

  • Chaka Khan the BEST!!!

  • i saw chaka live last year and she walked out to this but she didn't sing it, i was so hyped this is one of my favorites

  • who is removing my comments? this sounds more 1976 than 1978 as it is lacking lots of synthesizers. and does not have a disco sound but it is still good. who is that redhead in the picture, alfred e. neumann?

  • 600 v

  • One of my many favorite songs, from an under rated group, i go a chance to see them at the Pavillon, in the San Jose area.

  • The last true Rufus featuring Chaka Kahn album, the lat two albums were just fodder that she was contractuallly obligated to do after Warner let her out of her deal with Rufus to do her solo album.

  • Ain't nobody can make music like this no more. Chaka Khan is the best.

  • Tony Maiden plays guitar on this album, check out "stop on by"

  • This right here is my song!

  • she should have made some hard rock albums., she had the voice and talent to do it. mariah carey sucks swine shit.

  • Imma true 70's kid and there will never be another decade again like it..

  • Reminds me of the Late Cheryl Shaw; she was a phenomenal vocalist. She had the most beautiful I've ever heard, outside of Chaka Khan. I miss her dearly (*tears*)

  • Glad I found this page. This song is so soulful and musical. To me, Chaka Khan from the standpoint of musicality, vocal range and artistry is the best female vocalist since the 1970's. I love Aretha (I'm from Detroit), but Chaka as a singer can tackle any genre (rock, jazz, pop) and give value-added to songs. Her album Classikhan is brilliant! Her covers of "Little Wing" and "Castles Made of Sand" would have made Jimi Hendrix smile ear to ear. And she hang with Stanley Clarke, Miles Davis etc.

  • beautiful ...... dont make music like this anymore

  • Rufus was one of the most underrated R&B groups of the 70's.

  • true classic!

  • love this song

  • This is one of the most perfect songs I've ever heard!!!

  • This one of the most perfect songs I've ever heard!!!

  • This is the bomb.

  • I wish Chaka Khan still look the same as she did back then.

  • @shquan2519 Ha sorry no one looks like they did back in 78. Shes still beautiful though.

  • @Nanadsyl Yes!, so true ... I was told I was the bomb in the physical and vocal ... I did not see it then, but now I do, I'm 52 and everything I can to at least bring back some youth!!! <3

  • @Nanadsyl

Brian May is the exception to your statement... lol.

  • Boy i was wild and free when this song came out.

  • I remember playing this song for my oldest daughter when she graduated from high school, when we play it now we both cry.

  • My Chi-town sista!!!!!!!!

  • Great Song

  • Saw Chaka perform three years ago. After she sang this, I told my wife we could leave. We didn't, and the show took off from there.

  • Totally exquisite tune.....Finally found the cd for $21.00 at amazon....!Finding a cheap cd copy of "Streetplayer" aint easy. If I was asked to describe this album I would answer, "seamless perfection".....

  • Rufus hit #38 in Billboard, 6-10-78. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • @ 2:58 it really starts to get groovy... i could listen to this allll night ;)

  • Wow the guitarist is insane on this song

  • @Monteezy2008 Tony Maiden, underrated genius. Great singer, producer & songwriter also.

  • @Monteezy2008 I got a son, self taught at the age of 12,bass, classical, and aqucstic. i would love it if he could play like chaka's bass player second to none in my book.

  • @Monteezy2008 Tony Maiden

  • @Monteezy2008 Tony Maiden

  • @Monteezy2008 Tony Maiden

  • @Monteezy2008 TONY MAIDEN

  • I found this on CD about three years ago...nice..

  • This is the ish!!! Love me some Chaka!!! They don't make em like her anymore!

  • So glad I grew up during this time .... real music, no lip syncing! real shit!!!

  • @cgfbgirl2 I so agree with you baby. I tell youngings all the time. If you werent alive in the 70s, you missed it. We grew up around so much lovely and romantic music

  • @davidvirgodc Damn skippy!!!

  • CHAKA PLEASE BELIEVE MEEEEEEEE!!

  • reminds me of the winter just passed.

  • Ma Rainey, Bessie, Dinah, Aretha, Chaka, Mary J....that's the lineage

  • Men get so jealous when us women show an ounce of self confidence when they have nothin to do with it. If having lashes on your car is so ridiculous, then much more ridiculous is having testicles hanging from your tail pipe. Forget men. Ladies we should all buy car lashes....yaay. I ordered a pair should get them soon for my 2010 BMW. Cant wait to make more men nautious.

  • @MsCorrupt1 More power 2 you,sista!! Do your thang!

  • I don't think you can compare Aretha Franklin and Chaka Khan because their styles are so different. They both had range in their youth, but generally, there have to be more similarities for a valid comparison. Anyway, where did this thing come from where people can't appreciate two artists without deciding one has to be indisputably better than the other, as if they can't co-exist?

  • @FromUR2UB I so agree with you, each artist is a legend and a true diva in their own right. I love and treasure both these ladies and their sounds and styles are totally unique.

  • What a perfect song for a quiet Saturday afternoon...

  • ALL THE WOMEN NAMED IN THE ARGUEMENTS ARE STARS FROM THE LORD TO BLESS US WITH THEIR TALENT. LETS NOT FIGHT OVER WHO'S THE BEST, THEY ALL DESERVE EQUAL BILLING.

  • Love this song since I could remembered. It's needed for the what it's about. The words are just beautiful.

  • Uretrha Franklin can't touch Chaka. Sure she has power, but what do you expect from an eight hundred lb hippo with an attitude. That diva crap left numerous, devout Urethra fans dismayed, & dissapointed. Hopefully her attitude will change for the better after this gastric bypass. Nothing like fat warthog/sweathog waddling around with a crappy attitude. Chaka is a queen. Never got the props she deserved, & still has the ability to to "Take You There". Uplifting like a MOFO!!!

  • @Blkserpent1 This...is a bit much. You're entitled to your opinion, and I love Chaka's music as much as the next dude, but disrespecting Aretha is completely uncalled for.

  • @Blkserpent1 - What Aretha Franklin do?

  • this reminds me of Frazier street Pittsburgh Pa....staying up to listen to my stepmom listen to good music..

  • @prettyascanb69

Reminds me of 12th and Ohio. Grew up in Midland,PA. West side of Pittsburgh!!!

  • Erykah Badu did a nice cover

  • @crysta2k2 yes she did

  • TOP !!

  • I just LOVE this whole album... Especially "Stay"

  • I would never have left. I will stay. She's a tsunami, the band is sick. Ow!

  • It's definitely amazing how good music paired with talented artists' stay around forever & ever. This is a prime example of the very best to ever grace the music industry. They don't make them like this today. Good music will last always & forever. This was a spectacular group making good music & putting dynamic shows. Blessings to good music & artists' who made it possible for us to enjoy then & now.

  • fool's paradise WAS my favorite, until I heard this again after so many years.

  • Nice hearing this old jam again. The best kinda music never goes away it just STAYS!!!!!

  • Its amazing how little accolades this group recieved . some of the baddest studio musicians to ever do it . why dont the fellas get some love dont get me wrong somebody outta put chaka on plate and sop up her up wit a biscuit.pipes of gold but what about Tony, Bobby, Kevin ,Hawk,Dre and Moon some of the best to ever do it.

  • Chaka at her best. This lady is a beast!

  • Comment removed

  • @MsL0vie Oh It did hit the Soul Singles Top 10 in the Spring of 1978.. I know for a fact it was at least #6 in May of 1978.

  • Comment removed

  • I listened to this because of Comin' Out Hard, but holy shit this is way better.

  • I loved her songs with Rufus. How could she have not liked these songs?

  • love it, still sounds great!

  • i forgot about this! my mom & godmother had the lp. I loved looking at the album cover.

  • Soul Muzak!

  • to co teraz słyszysz, to dźwięki stereo.

  • @00kaza00 Patti who????

  • super classssick!!!

  • my queen of soul

  • I first heard of Chaka, from a little girl at Knowlands park Zoo ,who I was swinging

with the swing, who was named Chaka ,in the late 70's Ive been a fan every since

  • 5:07-5:28 CHAKA IS GIVING IT TO ALL OF THE CHICKS OUT HERE!!!!!! RANGE??!! ARE YOU SERIOUS!! FUNK, SOUL, RANGE EVERYTHING YOU COULD WANT IN A TRUE VOCALIST!! (AND SHE DOES IT SOOOOO EFFORTLESSLY!!) "THE BEST"!!

  • @drknmusclr whenever i see her perform she makes it look sooooo easy

  • LOVE THIS SONG! The range just could blow the windows out ya house. This is technically a song by Rufus FEATURING Chaka Khan. She only recorded this album because she had a contractual obligation to Rufus. But who are we kidding. Without Chaka this "Rufus" song wouldn't have even been written.

  • @mars552 where do you get your info from? without rufus chaka khan would have still been in chicago and vise versa. they needed each other. rufus was a bad band and chaka was a bad singer. they where made for each other

  • @mjjcng8958

Somebody's Standards a wee bit high!

  • @Hulk2k6 Without Mz.ARETHA !!!!!!!! There might have not been a CHAKA ,you forget who paved theway, didya?

  • Chaka No# 1, everybody else fall in line!

  • Chak Chak Chak Chaka Khan

  • Thank you for posting this classic #3 R&B track from Chaka Khan & Rufus - love this original version from this platinum album! Please post the title track, "Street Player," as well. No one can sing like Chaka - Many Thanks (again). DAVEDJ

  • mrpower328 I agree! Can someone please post 'blue love' of the same lp.

  • The best female R&B singer ever. Hands Down

  • everybody seems to agree that Chaka was the baddest female singer ever what range and soul yet very feminine voice

  • The closest anyone ever got was Whitney Houston, and all she did was a faithful rendition of the Rufus version of I'm Every Woman (minus the spontaneity), and gave props to Chaka in the outro -- Chaka is one of a kind, absolutely -

  • @SupernalOne , While Chaka Khan is my favorite female vocalist of all time, lets not get it twisted! Mahalia Jackson and Aretha Franklin are the tops on the list! Why, you ask? Because they can/could sing any and everything! R&B, SOUL, GOSPEL, C&W, OPERA, BLUES......etc..........When I first heard Chaka sing Jazz, she struggled! She's better now, but she had to learn how!

  • @Impex7

Yes, fair enough - props to the greats!

  • @SupernalOne Chaka graciously sang background on Whitney's version; returning the favor of an unknown Whitney doing background on the original.

  • @ksun

aha - thank you, that's nice to know

  • @ksun are you talking about Whitney Houston

  • @ksun Whitney didnt sing back up for chaka until chaka's 2nd album naughty

  • i would love to share eternity with chaka khan and be as close to her as two women can be without all that gay stuff. I would love to see how her singing is reflected in her heart and in her personality.

  • AS MUCH AS SHE GETS ON MY NERVE WITH HER DIVA STUFF, THE BITCH IS BADDDDDDDD, I MEAN TEN TONS OF DYNAMITE BADDDDDDDD. SHE CAN PRETTY MUCH GO IN AND OUT OF ANY OCTAVE SHE IS A TRULY BLESSED INDIVIDUAL LIKE THE GREATEST VICES OF OUR TIME, LIKE HER OR NOT...SQUARE BIZ DIVA THATS LIFE.....

  • @lookafterlove ATOMIC BLAST BAD

  • In Detroit thinking about renting a hall and throwing a dayz of wayback jam with old school classics like this with some zapp/roger, tom browne,whodini,heatwave,ojays,tempts,cameo,etc,etc......you get the point.....think it would go over well?

  • @ericbuchanan yea that sound like a good ideal I also stay in detroit I know that would be a great ideal

  • @ericbuchanan well i will keep you posted on the details.....going to make it happen though

  • wish we could be there

  • chaka khan is one of a kind, great artist.

  • @rmyes she is but don't $/get rufus

  • NOBODY can Touch CHAKA NOBODY!!

  • @cueto5370 PATTI CAN!!

  • @cueto5370 nobody !!!!

  • Whom do most of today's female artist say is their favorite artist is none other than "Chaka"

  • This song and Some love,Destiny, love this sound.would play this stuff in my younger days.My brothers said I influenced them when it came to funk cos they had to listen and they still listening to it today, then I've done well. And so the music lives on in the nxt generation.Love you my bros.XXXXXXX

Correction, folks. Aretha Franklin CAN, and always will.

  • @darkchococide Aretha is Aretha, and Chaka is Chaka, though ...

  • i get goosebumps when I listen to her sing

  • what is the name of the white man in the gorup? i heard he started the group

  • anyone who has the nerve to insult chaka deserves no mention.

    <3 herrrr

  • good peple, who really gives a ..., care who the first female lead singer for the group was. this lady took them away to where they are always going to be remembered. recognize and, appreciate you got to be alive to tell your kids about it.

  • I was a teen when I 1st heard this and thought I was in love...used to sing it constantly lol...Chaka brings back so many memories

  • This song reminds me of my days back at Montclair High School in Jersey. Thanks 4 posting this Classic song . Chaka Oh my!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • God I love this song. Ageless.

  • Didn't Paulette McWilliams send background for Luther on some of his music?

  • Nice song, Is Shaka Khan mixed? Is she half Pakistan?

  • @Dyamanti22 please tell me you're joking.

  • @Dyamanti22 naw black and native american according to an old ebony interview with her

  • @mjjcng8958 Still black...

Ignore him,he know damn well this broad don't look like a damn Pakistani,i have Native-American blood too but i still don't consider myself mixed..Chaka is the definition of true African beauty.

  • @Dyamanti22 Her 1st husband was East Indian; so she kept the name Khan after the divorce.

  • Once again, have to say, what in helol is the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame waiting for?? Can't believe this band is not in!! And...after all that Chaka has done as a solo artist, she definitely belongs in Hall as a solo artist!!!

Rufus and Chaka Khan made fantastic music, had real musicians, great singers, and of course, Chaka, with that amazing voice singing lead!!!

  • @stormgod1973 - HERE HERE!!!! WHAT THE "H" ARE THEY WAITN 4?!?!?!?

  • Its a shame we all must grow old. We were all graced once by a sultry young woman with a voice and a body that could make you cry. Chaka Khan is a once in a lifetime talent. Period.

  • Chaka Khan is in a class all by herself. Greatness can never be imitated or replaced. It's here to stay forever. Real talent has no competitors. You might find some with similarities but, never of the same caliber. Chaka's music will be picked 20/30 years from now. Today's singers will be forgotten as radio stations stop playing their songs. Thank God for good ole talent.

  • i love the instrumentals ♥ ♥ a head rocker!

  • Mariah, Mary J, Toni, I love you all, but this is the reason you all are where you are!!!
