The use of black and white shows amazing detail 2 each screen! Even though its kinda weird, that weirdness draws ur attention and actually makes you want to no more about it. The female shows more passion in her song than the guy doh
I must say during the 3 year working in the Museum of Contemporary Art in Montreal, Shirin Neshat's exposition was one of the most successful and the most visited expositions I have ever seen there,
This Two channel video installation was my favorite, and I was amazed by people’s reaction, some with tears in their eyes and extremely moved and mesmerized by this video
The second singer, is she /really/ singing that whole thing by herself or was it digitally altered/enhanced? I'd love to find out because, that's mind-blowing if it's all her!
I first saw this installation in 2007 at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. It made such a lasting impression on me that I searched all over to try to view it again or even purchase it. Thank you for uploading this so I can hear the beautiful / haunting vocals again.
Where can I find this amazing song and text translated into English? Amazingly powerful impression from his performance. And even more surprising is the fact that it's words of Rumi!
the singer is Iranian, performing a passionate song written by the thirteen- century Sufic poet Rumi! The woman is the Iranian musician and singer Sussan Deyhim!
Thankyou so much for this. I'm studying Neshat this year in my art class, and it's a lot easier to talk about this installation if I actually see it rather than just reading random people's accounts. It's a stunning piece of work.
I can't tell you how upset I am when i saw your comment, you are an Australian reading about neshat's work .I'm Iranian and I can't even think that someone in our country would ever dare to discuss neshat's works in an art class
it`s a shame, we have many great artists and intellectuals(both inside and outside of Iran) which can not be discussed in schools because of our crazy government... Free Iran vvv
Olé!

@CrimsonLove187 No that's really her voice. Some echo effects have been added. It is a form of sufi singing, common in Iran.
