  • Where did you buy your fly sparge arm?

  • jnmccra, you don't have to use a method like this. The idea is to gently wash all possible color/flavors out of the grain, and many people do it simply using a sanitized pitcher to pour the very hot water over, again and again. See the Batch method and other Sparging videos to see other methods, and just use one that works for you. Have a friend join you and enjoy the process. Prost!

  • Yes, I have a 9" round stainless steel false bottom that was made for this particular size cooler. I upgraded to a 10 gal cooler and am still using the same false bottom

    The Sparge arm will more evenly distribute the hot liquor. Necessary? Not really, but you do need a way of dispursing the hot liquor. Other methods are pitchers with holes drilled in the bottom, colanders, etc.

  • Do you have a false bottom or anything?

  • just a  dumb question, how necessary is the sparge arm? How harmful is simply piping the liquor in?
