I decided on the Nikon 35mm f/1.8G after watching this video and the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 vs Nikon 35mm f/1.8G. I like its light weight package of great FAST focused SHARP images. I would like better bokeh (I find it nice enough), but I have the 105mm Micro VR for that :) My kit (would recommend) D7000 with MB-D11, pair SanDisk SDHC UHS-1, Nikon 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR, Nikon 35mm f/1.8G, Nikon 105mm Micro 1:2.8G ED VR and Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 HSM (great value for performance). I have seizures so I can't walk with the camera around my neck (I can fall anytime).

I use the Lowepro slingshot bag and pull out the camera only when I'm ready to take the picture.

I noticed that using the camera without a strap (as you do) is much more creative, even if one day I don't have seizures anymore I will not put back the neck strap on my camera.

don't understand people's ranting ere. If you ever wanna know more about a lens go try or rent it for a few days. By watching videos it is always subject to the person's opinion so you can just choose to listen or just go away, no one wants to listen your rant. If you don't even trust yourself for testing then don't bother spending the money coz u suck in it. Some reviewer would go even as far as sniffing and then take a few shots and telling u it's gd or bad so what, can't u have fun and enjoy?

as someone who is new to photography, i mean VERY new, is there any advantage to having an auto-focus lens as opposed to a manual one? I mean, could one still manually focus through auto-focus lenses? Isnt the point of photography to manually focus, as i said im VERY new to this, and im sure i sound like a boob to someone: i dont mind really, but i would like a constructive answer, cheers.

@UtopiaMinor666 hi, glad you chose photography as your hobby. the autofocus lens as the name says, means you can autofocus. but, you're also able to manual focus is desired. don't mistake fine tuning with manual focusing however. fine tuning means, the camera focuses for you, and you manually focus the image if desired. its more like a hybrid system :) if you don't understand, visit my blog, i'm going to do a post on that anyway.

In maximum aperture, F1.4... think Canon EF 35mm F1.4L lens is even sharper than Nikon AF-S 35mm F1.4G lens... I've once used my friends 5D+35mm f1.4L but it was very sharp. (I wonder, Kai's 35mm f1.4G lens had a problem with focusing. Sometimes nikon lens have front or rear focus problem like Tamron or Sigma lenses.)
