People who couldn't sing or play an musical instrument launched a new genre called "rap". What a swindle. This bozo is backed up by talented musicians and singers who have skill and talent, but do you see them on the T.V.? No.
@ekimklaw, While this may have been true in the early days days of rap, the genre has grown immensely. Its to the point that major companies use it in their endorsements. And let's not talk abt the growing number of Causasian rappers on the scene or White artists that collaborate w/rappers on their songs
When I think back to the golden age of hip-hop, this song is right at the forefront of my memories! If I recall, this was on the Sugar Hill label. This is a heavily sampled track as well, especially in House Music. Pure classic!
What I like about old-school rap is that everyone had a different flow and a different style. Nowadays everyone (on the radio or TV) sounds and looks exactly the same, singing about the same thing. "Check out my swagger...." Dude you got the same swagger as a thousand other people out there.
i know superwolf personally and i also know his wife denise lasalle who happens to be a blues singer they are both very nice people and i feel blessed to know them
I remember hearing this late night during the "Dr. Sweet Funk Show." KSTN FM- simulated stereo. No need to mention the fake ass town the radio station was located.
This IS a classic, right along side "Casper's Groovy Ghost Show."
I would of changed the station in 1980!! And no, I dont listen to commercial rap, so don't even play that card. He's cool now, but back then I would of snorted whatever I was drinking through my nose from laughing so hard if i saw this. Hes like a fake Dolemite or Blowfly. Hed actually be dope as fuck if he did a lounge show in Reno or Tahoe. I could listen to his old ass while I play video poker!!
LOL! Put yo' weight on it, doggone it! It's been years since I heard this! I don't know about all that SIGMA blue he's wearing, but Wolf is a good man. Much love in Jackson, TN!
James "Super" Wolf released "Super-Wolf Can Do It" in 1980 on Sugarhill Records, which was owned by Joe & Sylvia ("Pillow Talk," "Love Is Strange") Robinson. Sugarhill Records was the label that gave the world The Sugarhill Gang, Grandmaster Flash and other old school rap luminaries. The "Super-Wolf" track is produced by R & B legend Miss Denise LaSalle, who can be heard on the background vocals.
I forgot all about this! This was from about the Summer of 1980 and I remember seeing this on "Job Man Caravan" (South Carolina's answer to Soul Train and BET predecessor) around that time.
