  • Go Grandpa!

  • The piano at the end doesn't quite fit. Great job on cello.

  • StereoTypes grandfather... it all makes sense

  • OMG.... So needless.

  • wow, a genius!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hahahaha :D

  • genius!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow that blew my mind. Im the student of his student: Bryan Epperson, so I hope to play like that one day.

  • Wow es extraordinario

  • the page pianist's dress at the end... spectacular lol

  • Does anybody know if George Neikrug is still alive????

  • As far as I know he is still concertizing. On faculty at BU

  • omg- another person i now have to play as well as...this isnt fair !! he is not human!...lol

  • yeah honestly.. is he still teaching at all?? amazing teacher....

  • George Neikrug is legendary, arguably the greatest living cellist.

  • definitely not the best but pretty good

  • are you stupid?

  • He has extensions on his fingers -a hidden finger-another guy in the cello - absolutely imposserus !

  • One can only wonder what he would have been like in his youth...

  • I think it's time you should be redundant

  • omg low...

  • Dude?...What the hell? O_O

  • The fact that he's even trying to play this thing on the cello is impressive.

  • i think it's not possible to play that piece on cello in a nice way; the instrument is to tall for that and the ways are to long for the fingers

  • great playing, the intonation really gives me something to strive for in my playing. I wish i played half of the notes he does. please contact me if you know how i can learn to play like this.

  • Practice scales SLOWLY for at least an hour a day for the rest of your life.

  • This Dude is Wacked OUT !!!

  • Emile Sauret was an amazing 19th c. violinist. George Neikrug has always been attracted to the violin repertoire.

  • Mark Neikrug is the first son of George. The second son is Barry, a comic actor in Los Angeles. I believe George is now 86.

  • that was something else....

  • Erlkönig is the hardest peace for violon.(technique) Because you can say that to play wll th bach ciaconna it`s harder than bel cor piu!!!! the best recording of ernst peaces that you can find is from a german violonist:Ingolf Turban. He has all studies recorded plus others peaces for violin and piano.

I will send us vid of my teacher maestro philippe Borer playing erlkönig if he allowed me to show it.

  • erlkonig is one not the hardest technical peice out their for violin. I will agree that ernst is the hardest composer to play, The erlkonig is one of ernsts easier pieces for the violin. the last rose of summer is probally the hardest

  • id like to see you play this piece when your fkn 90 AND in tune, laters

  • Ok, Ernst Last Rose of Summer has left hand pizz melody during a 3 octave arpeggio accompaniment... followed by double stop harmonics with 3 octave accompaniment ... solo violin remember. It seriously doesn't get much hard than that :-P. Find Gidon Kremer's recording, it's awesome.

  • is this man akin to the pianist mark niekrug?

    What a complicated complicated cadenza

    who was Sauret?

  • im not sure, i just know he wrote this amazing cadenza for paganini concerto #1, and its harder and i must say more beautifull than the concerto... this guy made a mistake by trying to play it on cello..

  • paganinis nel cor piu non mi sento is at least one of the 5 hardest pieces in the violin repertoire. the francescatti cadenza is also pretty intricate.

  • um... no. Ballade is not even remotely close to the hardest piece in the rep. I'd say that The Ernst Transcription of Der Erlkonig would have to equal or exceed the difficulty of the last rose of summer.

  • You obviously havn't heard much Paganini! Hahaha. God Save the Queen and Nel Cor Piu non mi Sento have left hand pizz -trills-. Craziness. The ErlKing isn't THAT difficult of a piece technically, it is just bringing out all of the voices that is hard. (and the artificial harmonics!)

  • is Der Erikonig some schubert piece? if it is then i must agree

  • misterbq1: The Last Rose of summer is the second hardest one? Which is the hardest then? Ballade from Ysaye?

  • Guidc, the ballade from ysaye is not even his hardest sonata.. his hardest is number six. i belive the hardest piece is shoenberg concerto... the thing is...this concerto is disgusting, so i guess it doesnt have to count.

  • this is an incredible cadenza but I have to say, there is not much melody.

  • holy shit

  • The up bow stacatto is amazing (2:14)!

  • the pianist does a nice job doesnt she?

  • WAAAA super celliest .. heheheh ... very good! look likes he's eating his regular breakfast.!

  • He's playing this like he's taking a walk in the park.

    Wow!

    Amazing!

    and he how old?

  • HAHAHAHAA no way I can't even play this on the violin (not many can lol) ... pretty hilarious hahaha very cool.

  • this is....whoa...how old is he?
