@dharmaseed.....according to what I was told by people who where close t oJon and the band...Jon received a phone call from Ed telling him that he was fired.
Does anyone know why this line up (which was a brilliant one and undoubtly the best one in the band´s career) disbanded one year after this show, in 2003 ? It has always been a mystery to me
@Semente200 Apparently it had to do with someone who was still in the band as of this point, according to Jon Egan. It's not Ed, so that doesn't leave a whole lot of other people.
@analfrost I am with you on that one, amazing band live very Gong influenced...I have Ed's mad knitted pixie hat in amy attic..it was given in exchange for a spliff I threw up to him onstage, around 1991..lol..my best prize is Daevid Allen's hat I got i n the 80's for doing the same thing....did it to Johm[n Martyn too...he sparked it up as he played..security rtied to stop him+he said "fuck off"+kept on playing...lol..yep acid opens up doors
They were great at the Rollright fest' in Oxford back in 1986. They had some wacked out 9 year old kid on the drums!! He, and them, were amazing. The little toot of opium was rather interesting too! : )
Interesting that you make the comparison, I'm a big Rush fan since 1975 - and recently (2007) became an Ozrics fan. Other than a lot of reverb, i'm not sure what connects the two bands...!
I definitely found a band that i actually what to listen to for a change..I used to think that dream theater was supposed to fill this nit ch in music..No, this is what its all about Orphic trenches of ozric tentacles..I cant believe they came out in the anti psychedelic year 1984...
ever heard of Melting Euphoria. They opened for Ozric Tentacles in San Francisco in about 1999. They are similar to Ozric and Hawkwind. Unfortunately they only have two songs on the youtube. They are disbanded now.
Is there any way to purchase this live version? because he musta been hella fucked up bc Ed's solo from 3:34-4:16 is 10 times better on the live version.
I've noticed I prefer most of their live stuff over studio. Case and point being "The Throbbe" The Pongmaster's ball version is 20x better than the studio versions. I didn't like the studio versions at all, but the live version's amazing.
listen to Michael Tsarion on the youtube. He is the worlds premier conspiracy researcher/lecturer/author. Dr. Bill Deagle and Leo Zagami are highly informative as well.
I could never stand full on techno music on account of the lack of kinetic, physical energy in the music. But the Ozric's with live bass, drums, and guitar is superb.
Re techno music and lack of certain types of energy, just saw them in Seattle, and my *only* disappointment was the heavy use of synthesized (minimalist?) rhythms. This said, the bass, drums, and guitar in this band are phenomenal.
saw them along with citizen fish and tragic roundabout at wick tip in 88, a festival held on a chemical waste dump...cider ray did the dancing...awesome!
I used to listen to them a lot in the early 90's and have just rediscovered them through youtube. Their combination of tight drumming, synched electronic instruments and live improvisation is very inspirational to see. The flute playing is a nice touch. The strings are great too!!!
since were all comparing ed and steve vai here... i think its impossible for anyone to be like ed, he has the craziest phrasing ive ever heard. They both have very similar tone though, not only because of thier gear but thier passion aswell. Ed also uses very similar tremolo techniques (holistically speaking of course :0)
they are only physically similar to steve vai. Holistically speaking they are very dissimilar to a mundane chump like steve vai. He doesnt give a damn about holistic development.
