  • Oh, and that gate still up, must have cost a lot of time and must have really SUCKED. Poor jockeys :-(

  • @poochgal592 don't u DARE dis barrel racing! I'm learingto now, and the horse I ride is a barrel racer and I'm just learining. Trouble, the horse, loves running the barrels and you can feel all of the excitment under her. Horses love it and there are many precautions taken like the rider is usually traned well before they start and there's usually lots of troting or even just circling first. They also check to make sure the sand wnt be slippery. It may be a little risky, but all are, even racing

  • ok I just read some of the comments. It stinks that I cant watch a horse racing video without someone acting like babies and fighting over it. That goes for both sides of the argument.

  • nice. So how did they place that race? good job to the jockies. That couldve been bad.

  • @LopeForestLope I don't think the race was even considered haha nobody won, nobody lost.

  • Even though they had to be slowed down, that one jockey let his horse win :3

  • That's why horses will always be better then machines. You would have that problem with a couple of draft horses.

  • @Butla93 don't you mean machines will always be better than horses? lol Your second sentence contradicts the first.

  • @futurejockey8 haha yup that was supposed to be wouldn't lol

  • nice job Borel!!!! you never disappoint!!

  • Nice.

  • Good commentator.... he didnt have a fucking clue

  • The Greek horse racing authority ODIE emigrated to America.

  • aptly, it was "double martini" who was going to win that race.

  • Cardiff Bed and Breakfast - Dexby Town House

    126 Cathedral Road, Cardiff, South Glamorgan CF11 9LQ 029 2034 0882 ‎ dexbytownhouse.co.uk

  • Want to make £100,000 from horse racing? Check my video Horse Racing - £100,000 per year

  • lol 2:03 Hold all tickets.......ya think!!

  • here in Mauritius,we can use tractors and also we can push the gates to move it away from the pitch

  • Pft I watched that race.

  • Also the horses are so well looked after by their jockeys/trainers. Have you ever heard of the great race horse barbaro, he had an amazing winning streak and his rider pulled him away from a race because he new something was wrong. Even that shows that they are NOT in it just for the money.

  • the gate is still in the way lol

  • So would that one horse still be considered the winner? Or would they refund tickets??

  • @LightingInvoker Refund tickets, they count it as a no race.(:

  • I really loved the bit that wasn't even in the slightest bit interesting or funny

  • well that a great training run LOL

  • @NicanorBarbaroLover hahahahhahahaha yep thats one way of putting it.

  • @NicanorBarbaroLover haha yeahh it was a good brez they will be fit for the next race

  • Everytime I'm at Keeneland and they start a race on the front stretch, I always go "what would happen if they didn't get the gate out of the way?". Now I know.

  • awesomew!xd

  • Gotta love the guy who sped up after he passed the gate...

  • Does the racecount??? If youre that stupid, then dont watch horse racing

  • @bigtimcny No, it was declared a no contest because of the mishap with the gate, so no one won, no one lost.

  • the connections to these horses must have been ELATED in anger.

did they get their entrance fee back? hell i woould have filed suit against the track.

its not these horses can jus re run again after the tractors fixed.

i mean this is a big no no in horse racing. not only are the owners owed the entrance fee, but compensated for all the money it took for these horses to train up to this race

  • Jockeys did a great job!!!

  • what an announcer. call it to the end man.haha

  • nas

  • @Chut619 and Crockjock--the race would be declared a "no contest" and all wagers would be returned.

I assume the jockeys would still be paid their mount fees.

  • I would be so mad if I was Borel...... he was leading practically the whole time just to get passed up while trying to warn the other jockeys...... did that race count???

  • It's funny how he keeps calling the race even when they are pulling up. lol

  • ausome

  • I bet num. 7 would dominate sprint.

  • So, did the race stand? Did anyone earn money. What did they do?

  • @crockjock Races like this would be declared a "no contest," now I'm not sure about Oaklawn but every place I've raced would divide the purse money equally amongst all of the starters.

  • cool

  • why do the horses always have wierd names?

  • What a good rider Calvin is! Complete control of his horse, and able to let everyone know to stop...or turn.

  • Awe that must really suck cause that just completly messed up there training schedual, poor guys lol.

  • i <3 horses

  • @iekoo23 Im not tring to start a fight or anything in that manner. in a way i do understand where youre coming from. alot of people in this sport look at it as profit, and see dollar bills when they look at these animals. I absolutly despise these peopie, and have to look at thses people every day. so i do agree wit you sum wat,but not EVERY person is like that, my mom loves her horses. see them every day treats her horses like her very own life lives within dem..

  • Saw your vid. Bravo, got your horse to jump 2 feet over a broom handle. Makes ya an expert. Well done. Opinions r like bum holes, everyone, has one. I agree with cadddyyyxO, the worst mistake U make is U think what U think U see. Come with me one day to a race track and learn. I'm still healing from a track accident 2 years ago. The horse walked away . But I didn't. Because I gave every bone, muscle and brain cell to help it. If ignorance is bliss, you must be very happy.

  • racehorses sometimes end up doing something esle whe they done racing

my riding school had serval ex-racers for the studenets

In fact I ride one of them a beautifull brown mare named Jodie

  • "lekoo23"...... I see you failed to watch the video cause if u had, u just might have learned something and you surely wouldn't be here still flapping your trap about how u dislike horse racing. If u hate it so much, why do u continue to come here and complain. Stick to the show ring with your horse sense, cause thats where it belongs....."Jagar"

  • Just because I hate the sport does not mean that I hate the horses. I care about the horses, and I hate seeing them beeing put in danger!

  • wow good call calvin! that could have been ugly =] Good for Calvin watching out for his fellow riders

  • Perhaps since you are on YouTube you need to type in your search bar... "Racehorse Welfare & Safety"... By BCWorldChampionship.. This 4 minute video will do you good!....Listen very carefully and you just may learn something. This is an everyday occurance that happens on the "backside", I know....."Jagar"

  • BigLicker76, First off i am not a member of PETA, nor will I ever be. Secondly, Watch your language. Act like an adult. Racing is dangerous, and causes MANY fatal accidents. Ask any decient horseman and %1000 of them will agree with me!

  • Apparently you have tunnel vision of the brain! You contradict yourself immensly when it comes to your posts. Any decent horsemen will agree with you..lol what a laugh! Now u are really showing ur intelligence. Yeah, horse racing is dangerous, so is boxing, auto racing, hockey, football and many other sports. Professional atheletes are killed in those sports as well.. So, should we ban all them too.. haha. Give me a break dude! Do your homework before flapping your trap anymore......"Jagar"

  • @ausfuhrpramienjagar No, I would not bann those sperts, and I will tell you why. People playing those sports have the ability to understand the risk of playing those sports, and make the decision to take or not to take that chance. Horses do not have a human brain, therefore they do not have the ability to understand the risk at hand, nor are they given the choice to race or not to race. Just for the record, I hear of MANY more fatalities in horse racing than any human sport.

  • syncs perfectly with running in the 90's.

  • I consider you a foolish PETA member! You need to do some serious studying before you open your misinformed mouth about horse racing. It's the most safety concious, animal sport there is.. The horses are checked at least twice on race day by the track vet, even before they make it to the starting gate. Horses are checked for performance enhancing drugs in every race, so there goes your drug theory out the window! Injuries occur in all sports, horse racing included, so whats your point? Jagar

  • Actually, some types of drugs are liegal in racing. I am not PETA. And if it was so safety conscious, why would thay keep doing it even though herses repeatedly are injured and killed? Even perfectly healthy horses break a leg and have 2 b put down ALL OF THE TIME! So shut your trap. I wasn't asking for your response!

  • actually, a lot of the horses that break down on the track are rehabilitated and are placed into good homes. why don't you take the time to learn about the sport before you talk sit about it.

  • some but not most, and they are never quite the same after the accident. I actually know quite allot about the sport, and I greatly dislike it!

  • yes, but i'm actually involved in the sport. yes, it's dangerous to both horse and rider, but so is any other style of riding. i've seen countless horses break down due to jumping.

  • Yes it does happen in jumping and other sports, but it happens 100x more in raceing. I think that anyone envolven in racing is just money hungry and does not care about the animals. Race horse people are a pathetic excuse for horse people.

  • like i said before, learn about the sport before you judge it. while you're at it, maybe learn how to spell.=]

  • I know plenty about the sport, and my spelling is really not the point

  • and duck. This guy is a brainless shite disturber. Never get into a pissing contest with a skunk, or a hisser with a snake.

    Now I go after him.

  • @lekoo23 GO to the race track one day and see what people do for these horses. They get up at four in the morning and leave at about five unless its a race day then thay leave at about 11 or 12 AT NIGHT!! And it dosent matter what you do to try to stop racing there are alot more people who know racing and love it not for the money andacually horsess love racing why would secretarite run and win by 31 lenghts if he dident want to run and why dont yuu try to make a 1000 pound horse to run

  • @jamesskater100 pitbulls used 4 fighting get pampered b4 the fight. they only do it 2 improve performance. they dnt care about the horses, just the money. horses r prey animals, they run like hell when they r scared. i never said that they dont enjoy running, but that dsnt make it any less dangerous. more horses get injured in raceing than in any other equestrian sport.

  • Copy that. I've many times put my shoulder under an injured and tried to lift 1000 lbs. off an injured limb until the horse ambulance (the bus) arrives. Loose the girth so they can breath deep and keep them calm. Last time U had a deep body smack, it was all about deep breaths, no doubt about. I've been off, as a kid.

  • I know nothing happened in this video , but seriously, horse racing is so stupid. It is dangerous and unethical. Giving animals steroids is discusting! Also horses are constantly getting injured on the track and sometimes have to be put down. Also, the racing industry is overbreeding race horses and running out of space for them so they are euthanizing thousands of perfectly healthy horses because they dont have room for all of them. I considder horse racing animal cruelty!

  • @lekoo23 shut the hell up stupid pansy ass....I'm so sick and tired of you peta idiots... the world would be a much better place without any of you..

  • @lekoo23 H horse racing isn't cruel, infact i don't even think you understand it, do you own any racehorses/ex- racehorses? I own alot of ex racers and trust me they really love to run. Infact i end up going home with sore arms because they are pulling on the reins to go faster. These animals love to run. And yes some of them are involved in accidents but if the horse didn't want to race do you really think a man could make it? It would just buck him off.

  • @poochgal592 no, i do not own racehorses, but i have probably worked with many more than u! they run because they r so neurotic from doing nothing but that. horses r flight animals darling. they run whan they r scared. im not saying horses dont naturally want 2 run, im saying racing is dangerous and sometimes unkind 2 the horses. if u think that a sport is worth such a high risk 4 a living creature, than u have no compassion and no conscience.

  • @lekoo23 You have worked with many more? Really though lol. My uncle breeds racehorses so i am one of the people who actualy help look after them. Yes there are many risks in it but that is the courses fault not the actual race itself. I believe that they should take more saftey procedures on it because there are so many accidents but it isn't cruelty to the animal.

  • @lekoo23 Also When we get the new foals we make sure that if they do not go into racing that the person we are selling to has a good background and we even go to where they will be keeping the horse. We would never put them to slaughter and we know that the majority of trainers wouldn't even think of doing that. The people who actually do should get a ban and really are only in it for the money, but believe me that is the minority :)

  • @poochgal592 i dont remember saying that they went 2 slaughter. i siad a lot of them get killed

  • @lekoo23 Some horses do die but that's the course, i myself think many more saftey regulations should be put in place to ensure the safety of horses, because when a horse dies on the track it's the worst thing that can happen my uncle didn't talk to anyone for a week, i'm trying to get a cross that the trainers, jockey, owners are not cruel to the horses if anything they treat them like royalty :)

  • @lekoo23 there are more horses every year that die because there owners abuse them and don't want them any more so they just leave them. Maybe people who think racing is cruel should focus more on that?

  • @poochgal592 all im saying is that the risk in racing it too high! when u take 2 and 3 year olds who's growth plates are not closed yet, and make tham run as fast as their thin little legs can possibly carry them, crammed togther with a bunch of other horses, u are aking 4 a broken leg. Honostly, its a miracle any of them make it 2 the finish line.

  • @lekoo23 It really has the same risks as quite alot of sports, i am not attacking you personaly but i looked on your page and what makes you think a horse wants to run round barrels? There is acctualy quite alot of injuries in this sport. You guys make horses go round corners with alot of sppeed and the often slip and in some casses even the riders can be seriously hurt.

  • @poochgal592 1st of all, barrel horses wear splint boots and most racehorses dont. 2nd of all we dnt race 2 year olds. 3rd we put months of work into training propper form to prevent injury, racehorses r only tought 2 run headlong and strung out as fast as they can. 4th barrel horses love their job. they willingly go into an empty arena all alone, most of them know the pattern by heart because they love it so much, racehorses only run because the bell scares tham and cuz the other horses r runin

  • @lekoo23 1 we do so much more training than you probably do 2 weeven work on ther strides so they get the right take of when they jump, so they land and don't hurt themselves 3 race horses love there job th ones we have when they are in there paddock, they race eachother even if they are not in the same fields they race eachother by the fence if they didn't like it they would NOT run 4 if the bell scared them they certainly would NOT run the whole track

  • @lekoo23if you type in big brown 2008 kentucky derby winer and go onto the first one at 2 50 you see him runing playfuly, ther is others of ex racehorses to. you make horses turn sharp corners at high speed and on the straight you kik em on most of the time wit spurs to make em go faster, you are trying to defend you sport now cos tink there is nothing wrong wit it i know there not abused. im sayin i no lots more about this sport than u an i can tel you its not cruel like you know more on barels

  • @poochgal592 Oh yea, i bet a lot of extensive training goes in2 those horses between teh time they r big enough 2 ride n when they start racing at 2 or younger. There is HUGE difference between horses playing or even "racing" 2gether in pasture and a bunch of horses flying down a track rite on top of 1 another. FYI I dne wear spurs and those horses wil turn a barrel anytime u go anywhere neer one even if u knt mean 4 them 2.

  • @lekoo23 Oh they turn barrels of there own will? Lol you do realise how childish you sound, if these horses didn't want you to do something i know dam well they wouldn't they are powerful creatures and they like barrel horses DO like what they do, and before you go all 'oh they are made to, they are playing in pastures' Think, could a man really make a 1200 pound animal do what they want them to do, they like it. And yes alot of training is done and they only raise when 2 or older lol

  • @poochgal592 im not saying they dnt enjoy running, im just saying there r parts of the rcetrack environment that frighten them. the point is that they race them at 2 and 3 when their growth plated dnt close antill they r 5 to 6. Do u know what that means?? LOL!! The risk it 2 high!!

  • @lekoo23 Hahahaha yes i do know what that means, i just don't think you are getting what i mean, no part of the racetrack scares the horse, we make sure of that before the horse goes to the race other wise it would NOT run its full potential.

  • @lekoo23 quite honestly, I don't think you know what you're talking about. I'm saying this to @poochgal592 as well. If you both talked with correct grammar, and used some actually correct statements, you wouldn't look so immature. I do three day eventing, and I promise, if a horse doesn't want to do something, it won't. You're each defending a high-risk sport, anything with horses is high-risk. And unfortunately, there are large amounts of abuse in each. Now grow up, get your facts straight,

  • @EventingLove27 and stop arguing like children. This video was not put up to debate horse racing. It was to show what a great job these jockeys did.

  • @lekoo23 You are a moron. You don't know shit about horses. Please, save your idiotic comments to yourself.

  • @joshb729 if u only knew how childish u sound

  • ROFL!!! Wow thats one I haven't seen!

  • One I hadn't seen!!! Wow! That would suck. I would be soooo depressed if that happened to me! LOL talk about an Inquiry! That makes NM racing look flawless.

  • @psrw, are you kidding!! Do you know how dangerous that could be!!?

  • thats crazy! that race should be a do over! no one could of one. everyone pulled up.

    good job Calvin

  • That's just plain crazy!

  • hahahha

  • Um, seriously? That'd be a disaster waiting to happen... they'd have to *perfectly* get to the gate, which is only wide enough for them to STAND in... a few millimeters off and there's a huge disaster

  • @perfectmillion You dont think they dont know and we dont know that it could have been a disaster? The jockeys did great and go tthe horses safe. I am very proud of all of them and the horses for not acting up!

  • Yeah, bad idea. You're just risking injury to horse and rider both.

  • How do you call stadions where happens the horse race?

  • I just know them as race tracks. :)

  • Look up the GRAND NATIONAL that never was. Uk National some years ago had 2 false starts and on the third time of asking that to was a false start...most of the horses though carried on and completed the whole national course only to be told that it was a no race...Now thats cruel.

  • Terry Wallace was the last to know...

  • Well done to the jockey on the leader, did a nice job of telling the other jockeys, could have been nasty if he didn't.

  • that's exactly what i thought watching this!

  • I always wondered if this ever happened and

this is the first one I have seen.

  • What's that trumpet tune they play when a race starts or something like that? I'm trying to find out who plays that.

  • That's the call to post. That's played by various buglers on differnt tracks.

  • "call to the post" is played by all different buglers. each track usually has it's own bugler.

  • Or a tape. Get 'em girl.

  • where was the back up trailer?

  • wesmoskalski, they hate you too.

  • 2 wold of won

  • It's called a "no contest" and all bettors get their momey back.

  • Feel sorry for the poor horses, having to run all that way so hard just for it not to count. Least it didn't end too badly.

  • What do they do in a situation like that? Call it a non-race and give the folks the money back?

  • that's a bad mistake to make with SO much money on the line.

  • They were lucky to pull out of that as well as they did.

  • WTF??!! Incompetents.. (the people)! This makes and breaks careers!

  • they didnt count it.

  • OMG, that was so dissapointing

  • lol @ the camera stopping at the finish line like the race results existed.

  • I think that race was totally thrown out. I think the tractor had a stuck parking brake and the pull off wouldn't start. How unfortunate.

  • An oblivious race caller. Big surprise.

While their Internet audience at home (95% of their audience) is watching the technological equivalent of crappy early 1950's broadcasting -

They brainlessly assume that it's the same quality as network TV.

Race callers and local TV news blowdrys = dead heat IQs.

  • Most callers are looking through binoculars so that they can call the leaders accurately. So obviously they can't see what is going on all over the track.

  • Can u imagine this at the Derby? "hold all tickets"

  • the commentator was shocked. he didnt know what to say when the horses was eased up so there was a moment of silence lol

  • so did they count it?

  • haha they did a good job easing up the horses, and it was good that Borel told the other jockeys ahead of time

    very unusual ending :)

  • Dancing Fern is just gorgeous.

Good call by Borel...that could have been much worse.

  • good job jockeys! must've been hard to pull up that amount of horse in a short time!

  • I wish I could skip school to go to thursday races! Our horses run friday, saturday, sundays though! Love Oaklawn!

  • do it!!skip school and become a track bum!!go through the garbage cans looking for winners and scratches.drink beer and bet on the horses.I love it personnaly.

  • no, I only go when we have horses in.

  • LOL!

  • most of the good jockeys dont hit the horses they have the expirance to get there horses up without useing the whip or just tapping it on the saddle blanket

  • If you don't like whips, you don't like the vast majority of horse sports.

  • Absolutely AWESOME job pulling up those horse by the jockeys, that was totally great! That's a lot of horse to pull up. Awesome, way to go guys/gals!!! :)

  • @greatdane83 I agree, I am glad that no one got hurt! It was a nice, clean pull up.

  • Here comes Apple Martini..... and the gate is still in the way!! lol classic

  • "Hold all tickets."

    Did they redo the race?

It's just bad luck.. Could happen. Poor jockeys though.

  • Most likely the judges ruled a "no contest" and a general refund on all tickets... the same with major accidents/outside interference

  • I've often wondered.

    Now I've seen.

Thank you for posting and explaining.

  • I think about that all the time. In fact, when I'm at the track I always watch the gate being towed away before I turn to focus on the race.

I don't blame the track announcer as much as others who work for the track. You would think someone would have noticed it and called it to the attention to the race caller.

Imagine what was going on with the spectators, particularly the ones in upper stretch. They had to see the problem and wonder how it would play out.

  • It has crossed my mind before when watching live at my home track, "What would happen if the tractor gave out, and they couldn't move the gate." Just one of those odd things that cross my mind from time to time.

I agree about the track announcer.. The jockey's began pulling up and easing their mounts long before he even noticed.

  • You always wonder about that. Every race, when the gate's gonna end up in the middle of things, you've gotta wonder, what if they can't move that big hulking thing....Well, there you go, hehehe.

  • I had money in this race; my tickets were looking good and then "poof"--the racing powers that be had the last laugh. I got a refund but I had the horse in the lead and a stack of them behind him. I could taste it.

  • you think that made you sick, I am the assitant trainer for that horse and I ride her....how would you like that?

  • Yeah Calvin Borel, savoir of the day. What a scary video.

  • Disagree. When you're calling a race 400 yards away with binoculars, you're only going to see as far as the lead horse. No way would he have seen the gates.

My question is where was the clerk of the course? Should have rode to the 6 furlong mark and warned the field to pull up.

  • I'm wondering the same thing. I can recall an incident at Keeneland on the turf course that the race had to be stopped. All three outriders rode against the field telling the jockeys to pull up.

Also where was the backup tractor? Most major racetracks have a backup with a tow chain for such an incident.

  • lmaooo!!

    wow what idiots!! rofl!!

  • Yes.

Clearly, because the tractor wouldn't work

  • his voice pisses me off

  • you mean the track announcer's voice?

  • Yeah almost all the horses had pulled up by the time he noticed the gate. I knew something was up by the way they were slowing down he should have noticed.

  • and I really like that the inquiry sign comes up at the end... that's really funny... it's like, duh, of course there's an inquiry.

  • thank god everyone was ok! that could have been disasterous! Great thinking by Calvin... he's a really great class act sort of a guy.

  • Back in the day. Oaklawn used Clydesdales to pull all of there gates around. They stopped using them when the gate got stuck during a race and the Clydedales couldent pull it across the track. It just so happens that it was in the same spot as this one. I know becuase I was there. When the gate got stuck (it was muddy) a bunch of us jumped the wall and helped push it across avoiding what happed in this race. A no race. It was like pushing a car through the snow.

  • Looks like they needed you there. ;>

  • That was really funny. xD I love the announcer - Calvin Borel had Richwood Silver down to a canter and he was still going, "And Richwood Silver is in front..." as if he didn't notice the gate. Which apparently he didn't.

    Pretty funny stuff.

Lucky Borel warned the other riders, though... there could have been a serious pileup there.

  • He might have still been looking through his binoculars, which is why he missed the gate being right in front of him. Announcers miss the most amazing things for that reason.

  • LOL!! thats true.. i'm suprise that the track announcer didn't realise until the horses started to pull up lol.. thats funny.. thank god nobody was hurt!
