  • Whatever the translation is, it's right because this melody does not have words originally, anyone can sing it as they wish. This recording by Carreras is just superb.

  • Thank you 444age. Actually I made my own video using some photos of Jose Carreras and roses in between those and a theme rose, one rose on Carreras photos. The theme, he is looking at the rose and he remembers the love he once had but he is thwarted in his efforts to find that love again so I called it "Thwarted Love." It is not here on youtube because I don't now how to upload. Anyway I do understand your view of "Eternal Love". My only language is English but I can feel through other languages

  • Several people have put this song sung by Jose Carreras on youtube but this is the first time I have seen the word perduto translated to 'Eternal'. It means lost or perhaps hopelessness. I love this song and the way Jose Carreras sings it so I just had to find the lyrics. From the first line the word 'recordi' translates to memories. He remembers the girl and realises he still loves her. But does she still love him, only he has no way to find her. The last line 'a sea of mortal darkness.'

  • @bravocarreras I very much appreciate your points. Yes, the song is about lost love, but isn't that the kind of love one can never forget, and therefore eternal? I know from my own experience, after my first love didn't want to marry me, yes, I lost her, but my love for her endured through all the storms of life.
