  • i met him at the Limelight at Crewe;i beat the bouncers out through the door and ran to leslie; he signed my albums and said to me in all question; have you brought these all the way from home??? what a real; nice guy; pity the bitch back then in my life robbed me of many of my records!!!! including those with leslie's signature just to add a lovely man!!! leslie west is best!!!!! he truly relates with his many fans; he changed my life with his music for the better!!!!!!!

  • His guitar playing is over the top, always been.

But I love the soul in his voice =)

    It´s fat and creamy

  • the should do a pro shot of this!

  • still sounds as if there is a backing band..even solo.......turn up in my local any time

  • Played a couple of these for my son. He tried for a week to find someone from his generation's music (he is 17) that could play as good or better. He now has 4 Leslie West CD's. Seldom imitated, never duplicated, the best there ever was.

  • @cbeyer1958 Fuck yea!

  • Leslie West is the man... One of the greatest guitarists to ever play on the rock scene in my personal opinion.

  • Unbelievably emotional! What a beautiful performance! Never liked bob dylan but you cant deny his song writing ability. Leslies version blows the doors off the original.Unbelievably talented this guy. Rock on man! \m/

  • Close your eyes and listen! ....Sounds like a "Boss-Like" guy from New Jersey ?

** sorry, for the cryptography, but "the Tube" wouldnt let me write his name ???

  • Close your eyes and listen!. Sounds like "B R U C E" ? ? ?

  • Was, and still is ,one of the best "Pure Guitarists" around. Can play with anyone; anytime. A "Real Student" of the guitar and its "sounds". And can "bear witness" to the

life of being a "Rock & Roll " star of those times.

  • With all due Respect to all his peers, He still is and will always be, one of the "Greatest Axeman " of his, or anyone else's time. A real "Student" of the guitar and its sounds.

And by the way, if you want to know what "Rock & Roll" was all about, ask him "He lived it"?

  • I'm personal friends with him

  • @showtimetv100

Hey Showtime. Next time you bump into him tell him Dave Ball said Hi.

    Thanks,

    Dave

  • I saw them every time they hit Atlanta

  • thats how you play a acoustic guitar..not doing jumpin jacks all over ther fretboard

  • WHAT BAND IS THIS GUY IN?

  • como existe alguém capaz de não gostar de um video deste

    Amazing

  • saw mountain live at summerfest in milwaukee a few years ago and it was the first time i'd ever heard this song. thanks to some help from other mountain fans i was able to locate and purchase the masters of war album. such a beautiful song and sung equally as well...i'll never forget that concert.

  • in 1978 or 79 I got to work the lighting for him. Since then I have tried to play like him. I worked lighting for many bands but something he did with that guitar made me think about the style I wanted

  • I don`t understand why many artists play to such ignorant audiences. Is this in the States? Listen to the ignorant arseholes talking in the background! They don`t deserve this!

  • David Gilmore: "As long as Ian Gillan screams, RocknRoll lives".

I say: as long as Leslie plays Woodstock lives on.

  • All I can say, Leslie ... is you had em all in the palm of your hand.

The most influential rocker alive today. 45 years later and STILL going STRONG.

  • Thank You...

  • slow with feeling...

  • i remember the first time i saw Mountain... it was at BB King's in NYC. when Leslie came out and did this song... i remember, i was shaking.

  • This guy WAS the envelope pusher of electric guitar uses and sounds for most of the late 60's into the 70's. The feed back/fuzz/"leslie box" sounds he created while with Mountain & that bands off shoots...He was highly influential to most all great guitar players that followed. He and Jimi were guitar playing geniuses - a fact all serious music historians agree upon

  • i saw him at woodstock 94 bethel, then again on 10-30-08 at the philmoore in miami bch, he opened for joe satriani. mountain is very very heavy. leslie has a true talent, he could play rubber bands on a tin can and make it sound right. he plays from his heart and when it makes it to the strings its pure magic. if you ever have a chance to see this guitar wizzard, do it. there is no one who has ever touched my soul with music like leslie!!!!

  • Not to be disrespectful to Bob Dylan, but I think that Leslie's version is better. I just like the Rock 'N Roll feel for "Blowin' in the Wind." It's just awesome.

  • caught Mountain in Fort Myers 2007

waited 35 years to see/hear Leslie

    fuckin AMAZIN !!

  • After seeing that im convince The mountain man is the greatest living classic rock guitarist by themseves jimmy page or Phramptom could not be this heavy and soulful . Leslie is amazing especially scine he was pritty much washed up in the 80's in a big way , he came back and became a better singer and player than anyone could hope for , i am in awe of all the blues he has recorded with Shrapnel records , and to hear Shenkner do a tribute to him blowsme away leslie holds his own with anyone

  • i agree I am a 47 years young man from Sweden, iam searching for one of the greatest heavyrock songs i ever heard CROSSROADER where can i find it at yuotube???

  • @Stairwaytotheslagg back in about 1978 or 79 I actualy got to work th elighting for his show at an amusement park in Bolingbrook Il. Since then I try to play like him

  • Mountain is the greatest band ever, and Leslie is a hero a true rare and classic talent.

  • i saw mountain open for satch in toronto...im telling you, i would of paid money just to say mountain there HEAVY!!!!!!

SAtch was great that night too. a night not to forget

  • someone have tab ? or at least know how he's tuned ? i'm a bassist so i habe trouble with 6strings chord forms :(

    greaaat song btw .

  • i dont if you know yet or not but it is tuned drop D and down a half step. the key is D as well. Chords in it are A, D, Bm, and G

  • That audience response Leslie gets at 5:12 is what EVERY musician seeks. However, only the very finest can pull it off. Musicians that play from their HEART & SOUL.

Leslie's legendary vocals and guitar skills are unheralded, one of the finest musicians of our day.

  • Leslie West says more with a single riff than most guitarists could say with 3 elongated guitar solos.

Who pulls more from a single note, then Leslie? Sheer Perfection. Every note.

  • Leslie you are the boss

  • Just saw Mountain opening for Joe Satriani in El Paso Texas and man...... They were FUCKIN' amazing!

  • I caught them last week in Vegas.... What a mind blowin sound!!!!!!!!!!

  • saw these guys live at summerfest in july at milwaukee...and WOW! leslie west is just simply amazing...and the version of this song is incredible. where can i find the album that it's on...have been looking in stores but no luck so far.

  • Hey Pacman. Just buy at amazon. Search for Mountain. Then, Masters of War. Price is $15.98 and I think is best rock album to come out in the last 5-10 years. Leslie West has unbelievable passion... and can express it in his raunchy voice and with his signature guitar in a very memorable and cult-like way.

  • thanks a bunch, will check it out!

  • The first rock concert I ever saw was Mountain in 1972. Bob Dylan is my favorite artist. This is just beautiful. Well done, Les.

  • Fuck yeah! Dylan & West. Gets No Better. Could you imagine a duet!? #1 all over again baby.

  • I can't stop watching this video. It gives me goose bumps every time I watch it.

  • Oh Wow!!! Amazing!!!! sounds a bit like Bruce Springsteen...cool!!

  • No no no.. Blasfemi! If so, bruce springsteen sounds like him:p If Bruce is the boss, this guy is the fucking god:p hehe;)

  • Mr. Fripod:

I think you are correct sir ! The sound is what took me to that. He has 1. tuned the E string down or 2. as in the old ways, has tuned the guitar down 4 frets to C, F, Bb, Eb, G, C . This was common prior to steel reinforced guitar necks.

Your correct sir, not a 12 string !

    cja

  • SPOT ON. Perfectly stated.

  • Leslie West is spot on with this Dylan number. Keen into on the 12 string and Leslie's powerful voice. Keen, in that the message still stands.

    cja

  • Definitely not a 12 string... but then again there's not very many players that can emit so much tone from a guitar like Leslie can! I believe Leslie tunes his guitar down 4 frets to C, F, Bb, Eb, G, C.. as MrCeeJayHey suggested, Leslie does lots with his guitars and amps to sound old school and different.

  • I was just tech myself how to play this... and I was tinkering with the tunings. I'm not totally positive, but I think it's a half step low in drop D. That's why that first D chord sounds so deep.

  • Check out Mountain performing under the World Trade Center in the Summer 2001, 30 days before the towers fell... Recorded two songs: Mississippi Queen and Crossroads... both stellar versions!! Enjoy! Check my profile page for links...

  • can someone email me a copy of this song in a mp3 file?

  • so nice guitar play duuuuude! <3 lovit man

  • I first heard Leslie playing with Townshend on Love Aint For Keeping. What a great performer.

  • I JUST FOUND MYSELF A NEW HERO!

  • Join the Mountain and Leslie West fan club at thegreatfatsbies dot com. Its free and chock full of Mountain facts...

  • Get the new MOUNTAIN album, MASTERS OF WAR, a tribute to Bob Dylan. This may be Leslie's best work since '69-74 period... Its the best rock album period in the last 20 years.

  • its pretty good but i wasnt diggin the like a rolling stone. maybe its just i got used to the hendrix version

  • Mountain and Jo Jo Gunn played together at John Jay Senior High, Hopewell Junction, New York, 1974-1975 was it? for our Senior Class grad celebration. I could not have had a better send off from Hopeless Jungle ...

  • I saw Leslie West and Mountian play at John Jay too. It was a very good night...thanks Lucy & Linda S.

  • Yeah those are definitely Leslie Harmonics, and thats definately Leslie Vibrato... trademarked to a Guitar God known to Earthlings and fellow terrestrial mortals as Leslie West, Creator of the Hard Rock Sound, the Long Island Sound, and all inter-planetarian rock and roll fans!

  • Leslie and Rory Gallagher - the very best!

  • great rendition, thanks. Very tough singer!

  • leslie is one tough, confident player.... love him!

  • I have been a Leslie West ( Mountain, Etc. ) for over 30+ years and I can never get enuff of that guitar !!! The guy just NEVER stops amazing me w/ that killer vibrato/ harmonics, etc.

    Meditex

  • I know Leslie...he is th efinest..johnny mag3

  • As a guitar player, I learned so much from his playing. Like the great trumpeter Louis Armstrong, Leslie never needed to play fast or lots of note, just the right ones at the right time.

  • God Bless you west for all the music ....Awsome.
