Before you decide to partner with a Shiba Inu, read all you can find on the breed. They are wonderful dogs, and extremely difficult to control and keep at home. You MUST be prepared to leash and contain your dog. They can climb chain link fences.. electric fences do not seem to bother them. They will chase other small animals if free, they will kill and eat them. I love my Gonzai, but had to let him go, as my health is not good. I miss him!!!
@ArkansasCrone I cannot understand why so many say Shiba are hard to control. My Sakura is a dream. She's obedient, tranquil, perfect. I've never had any trouble with her, except of course, she sheds a flipping kennel, but in terms of training and obedience? She seemed to be born house-trained, and she picks up tricks quickly, and obeys everything I tell her. I can't understand where they got this reputation..

I have to say... I do truly LOVE my Shiba Inu. However, I would never suggest to any friend or foe of mine to get one! They are so much work! Anyone else agree that this breed is still around based soley on their adorable looks? No matter how mad I get at my Shiba Inu Leon... he just has to look at me and wag his tail playfully and all is forgiven! Little rascal :-P
"Males 14 1/2 inches to 16 1/2 inches (3543 cm) at withers. Females 13 1/2 inches to 15 1/2 inches (3341 cm). The preferred size is the middle of the range for each sex. Average weight at preferred size is approximately 23 pounds (10 kg) for males, 17 pounds (8 kg) for females."
I wanna be a Shiba. All I'd have to care about is sleeping and eating. Their lives are so peaceful...

Not too big at all!
From Wikipedia:
"Males 14 1/2 inches to 16 1/2 inches (3543 cm) at withers. Females 13 1/2 inches to 15 1/2 inches (3341 cm). The preferred size is the middle of the range for each sex. Average weight at preferred size is approximately 23 pounds (10 kg) for males, 17 pounds (8 kg) for females."

@13Tomboy95 My Shiba isn't much bigger than my cat is. She's 2 inches taller at most.

The colour still varies.
It's really insulting to the breed by saying that "they all look the same"
AquaticFerret 2 years ago
No, not all of them look alike.
There are different colours and the faces vary from squashed and fluffy to pointed like a fox.
