Sayid is easily in my top 5 characters, because he straddles the line between good and evil so well. But, looking back on this episode after finishing the season, you have to wonder: Was Sayid really pure evil, or did Dogen's attempted murdering of him drive him to this point?
I know that. That was the whole plot of the episode. But it's not just something to take at face value. Think about it: When Sayid and Ben came back from death, they were inclined to darkness, but they always had a choice. We see that until Dogen attacked Sayid in this episode, Sayid didn't lift a finger towards anyone, even though he was supposedly becoming evil. Then when he tries to earn his favor, it ends up being a trap so the MIB could kill him. That would drive anyone crazy.
I really disliked Dogen and Lennon, or "The Samurai and the Hippie", as I called them, at first. But just when I was starting to get used to them... BAM! Sayid surprisingly kills them both and sets the stage for the ending of this magnificent episode. I loved the good/evil theme in this episode, and the scenes with Dogen and Sayid. The dialogue were also great, and the flash-sideways were really interesting. Awesome to see Keamy again! I would say that "Sundown" was the best episode in Season 6.
Well, thank you, Sayid, for killing off the one character that SEEMED to have some answers.
Something tells me this is not the last we've seen of Dogen, though... just like Sayid was drowned in that lake and resurrected, maybe the same will happen to him.
Could be, but the guy hated Hurley and Jacob himself already has that job, so I doubt it. Besides, every apparition Hurley had so far, at least that we've seen, seemed to have some purpose - Charlie came to tell him to go back, Ana Lucia to advise him over avoiding the cops. We didn't get to see checkmated Mr. Eko, but I suppose we could have had a purpose too. And who else would be fit to tell Hugo Reyes the Candidate what to do than Jacob himself?
Yes I suppose you're right. I was just throwing out an idea because it would interesting to see a scene that had 2 things:
1 - Dogen and Jacob together
2 - Instead of Hurley only seeing 1 person at a time he could see 2 or even more would be interesting, have him try and listen to the banter of all the dead.
But again, you brought up valid points and I guess we'll have to see if Dogen does return.
People came up with that theory when Sayid was first healed and Jacob said it was the only way to save him. It did seem valid at the time as a possibility, but after this weeks we can pretty safely say that Sayid being the new Jacob is no longer a viable theory.
there have been quite a few drownings on lost!

I'm thinking he'll be more like Jacob and show up and tell Hurley stuff.

I think Jacob knew that the only way to save Sayid, would be to kill him. But it didn't work, and Sayid has become pure evil.

@ShatteredOne2007 I think Jacob meant that the only way to save Sayid is to kill him. But instead, he was revived by MIB.

@LDMythos I agree, but even if he doesn't there is still Richard and Illeans, and episode 9 is rumored to be a flashback one for him.
