  • drumpro.com... does not sound like it

  • your cymbals could be xhh or hhx like 69 or 96 haha there upside down , nice groove by the way. jazz = class son!!!!!!

  • thanks bro

  • useful, but i cant hear the bass drum?:S

  • @jack87363 That the idea, I found this strange myself at first being used to playing rock etc.The bass drum is supposed to just slightly fill out the bottom end and you don't really notice it till you take it out.Playing the bass at the volume demonstrated here is very hard at first but well worth persevering with.Cheers Adam

  • @170adamb ah, cheers.

    jack

  • RLL RLR mate try this :-)

  • It's triplet based because you can't think in terms of swung eighth notes when you play the only the middle triplet, or quarter note triplet values, or anything else other than the first and last triplet.. I think learning it in a triplet form is the easiest way to learn the basic subdivisions, however a lot of drummers play the skip beat more like a 16th note value for stylistic purposes.

  • i always counted jazz as swung 8th notes... not triplets

  • change ur face.

  • It was helpful thanks a lot .

  • ohhh my god!!

  • bit . ly/jerku

  • so much better then expert village

  • I agree. Good drummer, terrible ride sound - could be camera.

  • not a fan of the "triplet based pattern." it feels like a triplet, but in a jazz drummer's perspective, its just a laid back "&" on each eight note.

  • @dontdodat00O No, it's triplet based

  • @holysmokes: i cant really see...

  • are you blind?

  • is he using hhx cymbals??

  • man, what does it look like??

  • @DRUMKIND NO. LOL

  • no, it's xhh

  • @criticboy2k6 LOL

  • great vid thank you!

  • Very nice, and very helpful! At the VERY least, this helps with limb coordination and muscle memory when beginning to get into jazz. It takes years to develop phrasing and TRUE swing (which I am certain that you possess both skills), and this is a fantastic start to that end. You've got to walk before you run!

  • hey man do you use Remo Fyberskyn heads??

  • Ohhh *squirt squirt* you got amazing feel man.

  • good video man! it really explins what goes on. For me, i always thoght jazz drummers were just playing madly, this explains the structure, and how jazz has that unorthodox feel to it. great clip!

  • triplet feel paraddidle on ride/snare & hi-hat ostinatos? mm?

  • was very helpful. thank you

  • terrible not jazzy at all terrible

  • HHX rules!!!

nice lesson i need to learn techniches of jazz

if you can make a video for me and other people

about some other patterns but more dificult

  • not all jazz is swing, not all swing is jazz.

  • It took me an entire hour to learn the feet and ride pattern!

  • thanks!!!

  • Very nice lesson man, thanks:)

  • very good lesson, thanks for breaking that basic jazz beat for us all ^^

and ride sounds good, not sure what these other people are talking about. nice ping sound, very cool

  • the thing is ,, all these people leaving negative comments are probably so far up their own arse that the bump in their throat is their nose.

The beat is not supposed 2 be complicated. He is teaching a basic jazz pattern !

  • Yeah it's not supposed to be complicated but the phrasing need to be better and if you don't know what phrasing means you can shove it up yours.

  • your ride sounds really ugly but you play good

  • i prefer a dry ride like zultan 21"

  • not really sabian has so many different products i cant keep track of all the brands like solar and the brand hes using

  • u make no sense hhx is sabian

  • What heads are those? I think they're Remo but what model exactly?

  • my best guess is remo coated ambassadors

  • its a sabian

  • never heard of that cymbal brand, they sound nice though and have a good ring to them, im just starting to get into jazz on the drums, thx for the tutorial

  • new to the drum world eh?

  • very nice and simple explanation 8) 5/5

  • i think that you play the right to loud but you're a good drummer

  • burp!

  • bien pero falta asentuar mas el ride en el tiempo 2 y el 4

  • o ya im playin drums

  • hey man check this out my video at sacrmento jazz festival ya im playin sing sing sing

  • Great I sarted playing drums over a year ago. I know nothing but some rock and one blues but I whabt to exspand on jazzz thanks

  • please view my video and leave some comment..really hope can improve more...thank u

  • cheers bud

  • thx, i needed the basics!

  • I've decided to go back to basics with Jazz and start again, this was really useful thanks!

  • Well done and very helpful George

  • NIIICE snare! Ever blast beated on it?

  • I've tried to give people lessons and they catch on very slowly. This video might even be too fast for some people. there's a word for splitting music intended for one instrument up into several, which is what he does to the ride and snare at the end. Nice video.

  • Youtube critics... shut up. Its a drum lesson for a basic jazz pattern. BASIC. So don't give him a hard time about it.

  • Nice and basic. perfect for learning jazz. im doing that right now after playing rock for 5 years. good vid!

  • very good simple and instructional, keep the good work

  • Very, very nice and clear. Easy to learn. Thanks alot!

  • Good teacher. Explained things very clear.

    Cool beat too..

  • lo explica complicado, pero eso es entender..

los k custom o hhx, es cuestion de gustos, y sabian y zildjian son de las mejores marcas para cualquier genero musical...

  • i like jazz a lot thanks George for the lesson

  • i like sabian b8 pro hand hammered mediums for my jazz playing thats wat i use

  • wow, even the most simple beats in jazz look extremely complicated

  • About the Sabian HHX, isn't that series of cymbals compared in quality and sound to the Zildjian Ks? I mean low pitched, dark sound... I think that is a good choice of cymbals for jazz players

  • Yes, very similar to the Zildjian K's.

  • I THING HHX CYMBALS ARE FALSE¡¡¡¡

  • nice simple, like to see more thanks

  • im primarily a kinda rock/metal player, but recently ive seen a jazz band play (my friends band supported them)

and i'm really intrigued, a lot of the most talented drummers out there are jazz players, or are trained jazz players

and i wanna try my hand at it, i found a transcription of the first lesson here, its not as easy as it looks

im gonna start learning some jazz :D

  • Can You tell me what snare and head you have.

    It sounds nice and crisp.

  • hey man thanks for the lesson. not much jazz going on where i live. this is going in my favorites.

  • your name is green day guy

  • I think he might be pointing out your poor taste in drummers.

  • your name is green day guy...no more argument needed

  • Hahahahaha....now that was good..! :D

  • u suck... his set is awesome

  • his set is very nice, but the cymbal choice was not the best. To many overtones in the cymbal at the beginning.

  • Dude! thanks for the lesson!

  • thanks man

  • you got a really nice snare sound there...

im playing drums since i'm 11 and i`m studying

audio engineering, so i'm VERY interested

on what snare and what drumhead you use...

    please answer!!!

  • what hi hats do you have? thanks for the lesson.

  • no noe answers you so there sabian hhx(hand hammered xtreme) id say they run about $350-$400 a set the highest price ive seen on em is $420 idk if u have one particular brand you like but id say if u like sabians and dont want to pay that much get aax or aa or Vaults are good to if u prefer zildjians get A customs

  • i have hhx groove hats...i was curious as to if thats what he has....thx though

  • nice lesson

  • i PLayed snare with George in Mystical..

  • AHHH, washy ride cymbals murder me...

  • wow amazing bass drum sound

  • Hey, your a great instructor! What heads are you using?

  • well...if you want practice with jazz take a jim chapin book!

  • Wow i agree completly i'm allready on the snare and bass solo.

  • and the sizes cheers again

    :):)

  • no sorry i ment are they stage or evolution

    cheers

  • i couldnt hear the bass drum. easy lesson though thanks

  • heylo again could you tell what cymbals your using??? thanx another great video!!

  • They are Sabian HHX Series.

  • No offence dude, but can you not clearly see the 'HHX'?

  • get som headphones;

    fellow drummer

  • i cant believe i found him!

  • i couldn't here the bass drum

  • thats because the bass drum is played very softly (feathering) in most jazz

    x

  • yes but that's y i couldn't here it, he could've just played it a bit louder so we could actually get the bass pattern, my hearing is screwed anyway

  • he used to be my drum and piano teacher, but he went around the world for drumpro.

  • Really thanks a heap for giving some basic lessons out for free. knowledge is a very hard thing to come by and sharing it for free is a great gift. I always wanted to pick up jazz. So thanks for the vids. 5 stars.

  • thanks alot
