its called power shifting just like in cars and simi trucks it dis ingages when you go to a rpm and you shift with out the clutch love thet zx-6 have the same year and that candy wine red thats the man on that bike the zx-11 is also the bike to have same style but th fairing has a deeper front nose and very quick which i have as well.
Nice bike! I have a 2004 ZZR 600. I just put up a video of JUSt the sound due to the wind the other day. I will provide more videos later! Nice bike BTW.
@ICECHIK82 The ZZR600 was marketed in the US as the ZX6E. Only in the last few years the US has seen a ZZR model but in the form of the old 2002 ZX6R lol
up yes. very important to "feel it" with your foot under the pedal and putting pressure under it like your setting it up to go to the next gear. you want to match the rear wheel speed to the gearbox max range of that particular gear and also the engine rev at the same time. its a feel sorta thing. going down you "can" do it but its a hell of alot harder and probably isnt worth the wear and tear on meshing gears. so going down id recommend never doing it and just using the clutch.
Yes, but the best way to improve take off is to install different sprockets. With larger in rear and smaller in front the off the line acceleration will be greatly improved but top speed will drop. But you can always throw a exhaust and jet kit on it if you have someone to tune it for you :) i love my 85 zx600, im getting its carbs tuned soon and i should make more power then.
@bikerboomer Not using a clutch is also faster, you just have to know exactly where the gears line up to switch (dad use to race cars and gave me that little tid bit) he placed in nationals btw so im pretty sure he knows what he's talking about
you can quick shift by applying enough pressure so that the bike is nearly in gear then lightly decelerate so that it goes into gear smoother then press the bike fully into the next gear while accelerating. with a bit of practice it can be done as smoothly as using the clutch.
clutchless upshifts are fine often racers do this, but you have to use the clutch on downshifts otherwise it messes up the timings or something like that
did you have to do any retting to the carbs .. i have the same bike BTW .. i am about to go to the 4-1 full vance&hines system. just wondering if you had to do anything to it afterwards..
oh i see now .. you said dyno jet kit . where did you order from and how much .. did you install yourself and was it hard .. sorry for all the questions ..lol
#1 for a sport bike you can comfortably cruise hours with. Bonus of a slightly lower seat hight that usual gives a bit more confidence to green riders. All in all, An absolute pleasure to ride, i must say :D
For all the idiots in here. You can shift up or down without the clutch and as long as you do it right, it doesn't hurt anything. And for whoever said that it was power shifting, its not. Power shifting uses the clutch without backing off the gas.
I downloaded the video, stripped the audio off into a separate .wav file using SUPER(C), opened that file in CoolEdit96, highlighted the relevant part and did a "frequency analysis" (basic spectrum analyser). Lo and behold - there's a tell-tale peak at 438.9Hz. Both pieces of software are legitimate freebies, CE96 is evaluation version.
It's called a race shifter, quickshifter (dynojet), etc. It sends a signal to the ECU the momentarily buts the ignition when the shifter lever is pressed/pulled allowing the shift to occur. Go down to your local race shop and they'll have one hanging on the wall.
You can upshift without a clutch, but dont get in the habbit of doing it all the time, The clutch is there for a reason, oh yer, dont go thinking you can downshift with the clutch eiter, or else you can wave gdbye to your gbox!
First thing I learned when I was 12. How to beat your mate shifting without a clutch on dirt bikes. Be careful on big bikes it might put you on your arse.

@Marillionado
There's a gizmo called "quick shifter" produced by Dynojet that is used in competitions... or it's maybe a power shift just as jwade94544 said

@TCstorm08 Clutchless shifting. you can shift as soon as you dip throttle. Works on any manual gear box. Just don't force it.

90 hp is pretty good for an 8 year old bike. The new Ninja 650 is only rated for 70 hp. It all depends on how you ride it.

Up yes, down is possible but I think harder on the transmission.
captain150 2 years ago 3
Up yes, down yes. both are hard on the trans. down is worse. if done with the correct throttle lift, up can be very safe.
bikerboomer 2 years ago 4
Indeed. My R6 is smooth as silk (smoother than with the clutch) on the clutchless up, if I'm good with the throttle timing.
Never tried down, though I should. I've heard the 03-05 R6 trans is bulletproof :)

and the fact that with a quickshifter, you don't even need to close the throttle.

Just before he cuts the throttle the exhaust pitch is 438.9Hz. That's 13,167 rpm. Woot!
Circlotron 4 years ago
That`s interesting, how did you get that reading, how did you figure for RPM?
xxxdesigns 4 years ago
4 cyl 4 stroke makes 2 exhaust pulses for every turn of the crank. 438.9Hz divide by 2 = 219.45 revs per second. x 60 = 13,167rpm.
Circlotron 2 years ago
